I'm ambivalent on the Mattel/Wal-Mart partnership. I really don't care if they keep getting exclusives or not. I live practically on top of Wal-Mart HQ and have dozens of stores within a reasonable driving distance, but that doesn't make it easy to find the exclusives. I didn't get DCUC5 first hand. I had to buy the Giant Man figures and Nemesis figures while traveling in other states. And I know that even though DCUC10 was easier to find for a lot of fans, the bad taste DCUC5 left in the mouths of most collectors is still fresh enough that even I cringed at the announcement that DCUC14 would also be exclusive to the retailer. But I'm not writing about whether there should or shouldn't be Wal-Mart waves today. That ship has sailed, so I'm moving on too. But I do have a problem with some of the figures that go into Wal-Mart waves.
Fourth in our four-part series on DCUC10 and fifth in our five-part series on DCUC9, this review covers Chemo & Imperiex.
These two may end up being a couple of the harder C&C's to complete. Worse still, they're hitting stores at relatively the same time and competing for aisle space with a couple different "Best Of" case assortments. I don't think either of them will end up being quite as difficult (or expensive) as Metallo, but unless we see a change in the next few weeks, these two C&C's are going to be a hot commodity. But are they worth all the hubbub?
Third in our four part series on DCUC10, this review covers Joker, Forager, and Batman.
There's always a broad spectrum of feelings when reviewing a DC Classics wave. There are the figures you wanted and the figures you didn't know you wanted. There are the highlights and then there are the warped legs. And sometimes there are accessories. These figures are all of those (with a strange quality control issue thrown in).
Second in our four part series on DCUC10, this review covers Robotman and Beast Boy.
DCUC10's lineup was released (leaked?) over a period of a few months. We knew it would have Joker. We were pretty sure it would have Man-Bat. AFI let us know about Power Girl. We knew Forager was coming, but we weren't sure which wave. We guessed (correctly) that there would be a Batman. But for the last two? Well, once Mattel confirmed a 7 figure lineup, one guess was as good as any other.
If you've been waiting for the Chemo review, well, it's going to be a little longer. DCUC10 has arrived and we're going to pair Chemo up with his C&C counterpart, Imperiex. But first, we'll check out the rest of the wave ten lineup. First up, Power Girl and Man-Bat.
Some folks tend to avoid the internet on the weekends. If you're one of them and you collect DC Classics, you might have missed a few important news items. On Thursday, we relayed Matty's message about DCUC9 shortages and then watched as the prices on eBay climbed accordingly. We're in between on how difficult this wave will be to find. Vault stumbled onto a case at his TRU on Wednesday and found the first half of his Chemo set. That filled the rest of with hope that this wave won't be a repeat of DCUC5 which none of us ever saw at retail, but we won't know for sure until the sightings dry up.
