I love Kobra Khan. He's probably my favorite evil character. Why's that important? Well, him and Webstor used to hang out together. A lot. In the cartoons. In the mini-comic. Heck, I think they were in She-Ra together too. The one place they weren't together? Well, my house. Yeah, I never had everyone's favorite arachnid evil master. I just didn't like the toy back then. I remember being at Sears and passing it up more than once. There's a handful of toys like that: the G.I. Joe Swampmasher, Metroplex, Astrotrain. Toys, for some reason or another, that my child mind passed on.
Some folks tend to avoid the internet on the weekends. If you're one of them and you collect DC Classics, you might have missed a few important news items. On Thursday, we relayed Matty's message about DCUC9 shortages and then watched as the prices on eBay climbed accordingly. We're in between on how difficult this wave will be to find. Vault stumbled onto a case at his TRU on Wednesday and found the first half of his Chemo set. That filled the rest of with hope that this wave won't be a repeat of DCUC5 which none of us ever saw at retail, but we won't know for sure until the sightings dry up.
We've been a little pressed to fit all the reviews in since we got back from JoeCon. We had SDCC Exclusive Week to get those reviews done. We had JoeWeek to get through those reviews too. But in all of the fun, two reviews got lost in the shuffle. This is one of those reviews. First, I should thank the fine folks that e-mailed me about Vigilante. More than a few people noticed he was missing from the Wave 8 reviews and e-mailed me offering to guest review, to loan, to sell, and even to give me a Vigilante. Dutifully, I turned down those offers because I've had Vigilante the whole time. We just left him by the wayside. That's over today. We’re finishing our Series 8 reviews with the fifth installment, featuring Giganta and Vigilante.
JoeWeek is wrapping up her at ItsAllTrue.Net. We're skipping our usual Saturday figure request for this week so we can get caught up on Joe reviews. We were going to have the Crimson Neo-Viper and Doctor today, but our local Wal-Mart brought a nice treat today, the "Offscreen" ROC 2pk of Shockblast and Night Creeper! See, even when you're trying to get caught up, you still have to buy new stuff. It never ends.
JoeWeek hits Friday! We're going to forego our usual Friday Five for this week so we can get caught up on Joe reviews. Today, we're opening up the General Hawk with Jetpack and the Paris Pursuit Baroness...
Buying Joes isn't just about picking up a lot of individual figures, it's about vehicles and playsets too. While some of my fondest memories of playing with Joes are vehicle-based, I'd been avoiding buying any ROC vehicles. There are a couple of reasons for this. One, my adult sensibilities kick in and remind me that space is at a commodity. And two, almost all of my Joe purchases are guided by a bit of nostalgia. One or the other of those has kept me from making vehicle purchases so far. The ROC Night Raven, though awesome, has nowhere to go right now. The Ice Dagger, though awesome, is no Snow Cat. Finally, though, one of the vehicles was able to convince me to overlook space and nostalgia concerns: the Crimson Hydra.
