Mattel’s first foray into bringing MOTUC to retail came with an unexpected twist, DC figures. ToyFare #152 first revealed the existence of these two-packs, Superman vs. He-Man & Lex Luthor vs. Skeletor, back in early February. Now, just weeks later, they’ve hit and fans are gobbling them up. Wave six first hit retail at the very end of 2008 and became more available over the first few months of 2009. The set reviewed here showed up at a Wal-Mart in early January. That Wal-Mart had never carried DC Classics before and didn’t receive another case until the fall reset. While I was lucky enough to run across my wave six locally, all of the other IAT staffers had to make toy runs to a remote Wal-Mart about 45 minutes north of here throughout the Winter – it was the only one within an hour that maintained pegs for DC Classics. That was indicative of the odd distribution of wave six, at least, at first. (More…) Today on Facebook, Matty took a moment to update fans on the status of Public Enemies Wave 2: (More…) The Public Enemies wave wasn’t something I was terribly excited about when it was first revealed. I wanted Brimstone as soon as I saw him, and still do, but I wasn’t that interested in the stylized DC Classics figures that stood between me and the Engine of Destruction. Now that I’ve had them in hand for a day, my opinions have shifted a bit and I might be able to find some room on my shelves for a few of the figures, particularly if it’s the only version they’re ever going to receive. (More…) Every once in awhile, living in Uncle Wally’s backyard pays off. I had precious little to do this afternoon, so I grabbed the car keys and headed off to see how the Wal-Mart resets were coming along at the various stores around me. I hit up my eight closest Wal-Marts (it’s not really that far, if you have a town of 10k or so, you’re awarded a 24 Supercenter around these parts) and was happy to find DC Classics pegs popping up at quite a few of them. Most of the pegs were empty, and the ones that did have figures only had the “Best Of” case to clog the pegs before Wave 9 arrives, but I have a feeling Wave 9 (and Wave 10) aren’t going to be an issue – at least in our neck of the woods. I’m a little concerned about the 5pk distribution though, because of the eight Wal-Marts I traveled to five had set pegs for DC Classics, but so far only one had shelfspace for the DCUC 5pk. I lucked out today though, because that one store had the 5pk too. (More…)
Today, the mail brought Mattel’s latest DCUC offering, the Clash in the Cosmos 2pk featuring the Silver Age Brainiac and a Superman with heat vision eyes. The Superman, despite being a tad on the angry side is one step closer to having an iconic DCUC Superman. The line started off with Electric, than went long hair and regeneration suit, we’re getting closer all the time. As for Brainiac, fans have been clamoring for the Pre-Crisis version of Brainiac for years. (More…)

Sometimes as toy collectors, we can look across our displays and only see the toys that aren’t there. They are the missing figures. The characters toy companies never got around to, never thought were important enough, or worse – the figures companies felt the need to show us at comicon in the “We’re Never Gonna Make These” case. Saturdays are for these figures…
