  1. Long time lurker, first time poster! I just wanted to say that I love your strips. Ones like this are my favorite. The legends worrying about getting replaced while the 5″ have renewed hope is great! You really think about the things that toys would think. It reminds me a lot of the stuff I see on Robot Chicken. I love that show too.

    1. I agree. I follow many toy blogs/review sites. Most are similar, but the chuckle-inducing comedy is what makes this a stand-out for me.

  2. Thinking back, why were all the good Spider-Man figures in Marvel Legends multipacks? Venom, Carnage, Kraven, Rhino, the good Doc Ock was in ML outright.

Anyway, I love that Carnage except for his hips. If they’d just sculpted some grooves and painted the hips and shoulders. Poor guy looks like he’s a Magnaman figure.

    1. that’s not true, the ultimate lizard was a spidey fig, and he rocked, the later scorpion venom was awesome too, and i prefer the venom from the SC line. and spidey classics yeilded the man-spider, who wasn’t the best articulated SC fig ever, but he looks incredible.

but you did forget vulture too. 😉

just think though, of the spidey heavy hitters you haven’t received yet who now get a chance… tombstone, silvermane, cardiac, puma, jackal, killer shrike, sin eater, the smythe family, boomerang, lighmaster, stegron, trapster, mister hyde, morbius, prowler, ringmaster, doppleganger… seriously, i look forward to getting to add to the family again.

      1. Tombstone, Smythe, and Morbius all almost made the cut to take Prowler’s spot.

I really regret giving up my Rhino. I think the Rhino and Sandman are the only two MLs I sold off that I miss. All I kept from the world of Spiday was black Spider-Man, black Spider-Woman, a Venom (and there are better Venoms out there, I just prefer no tongue), Carnage, Kraven, Hobgoblin, & Doc Ock.

  3. I can’t wait for the new line! If they’re really serious about getting back to their roots this is going to be an awesome line!

      1. COMCAST!! er, BLACK BOX!!!

otoh, I’m *still* waiting for a decent SUNSPOT!
(who’s body got re-used for Windsurfer Spidey! LOL)

  4. I just can’t get excited about this yet. The year after next? Woo hoo. Things change. I’m looking forward to it happening though. Personally, I’m hoping for a reboot of sorts. I still want the line to go in new directions and add all these characters that the MU fans are getting that we never got but Toy Biz was very experimental and it didn’t always work out. We’ll need more than a few apology figures too.

        1. So either you found a weird misspainted ahab or a young noisy decided to change the chest color of his ahab

  5. You know… just the picture without the words is funny. That’d be great for a caption contest.

  6. One thing about this announcement that leaves me sour are the fans who liked Marvel Universe, bought the figures, defended them on message boards, suddenly toss them aside.

“Good riddance! I never like that scale! Bring back 6″ figures!”

    WTF?

I get there’s a “make due with what’s available” mentality–if they’re only making 4″ from now on, might as well start collecting them. Still, I imagine there’s a good amount of backlash the opposite way; fans who had a lot of Marvel Legends who sold them to re-buy all the characters in Universe are now being told the scale’s switching again.

    1. I do the “make due with what’s availalble” bit – I’ll drop something for the next thing sometimes, but I wouldn’t bash the old stuff. The old stuff was, if nothing else, what it was and good enough for me to buy!

Hasbro sounds committed to two scales, I imagine the market will bear it.

    2. I’ve resisted buying MU for the most part, getting only a few characters that were unique/NEW (koffJEANkoff) or perennial favorites (KURT!). It’s more the fact that I realized I spent hundreds collecting the 5″ scale, then “upgraded” to MLs. when I found out about the switch to MU, and they weren’t as articulated as most SW figs from the same company, I had to take a pass as long as I could. Of course, some more recent offerings have me salivating, but I haven’t seen ANY new stuff in MONTHS, here.

I’ve long held out hope that the 6″ MLs would see a resurgence, so I’m happy to hear my patience has been rewarded. My wallet, however…. 🙁

    1. They wanted to stress that MU was still going strong and it would co-exist with ML – they have two separate brand managers who both likely want to keep their jobs – I think it will definitely be fine at first and as long as they don’t conflict with the other’s sales, all will be well.

  7. I like Marvel universe, i just think that they are getting better as the line matures…But one thing holds me back from buying them (other than not being able to find the cool new ones)….PRICE. I really have a hard time justifying spending 9.00 on a 4 inch figure, even if it is kick ass. I feel bad buying a DCUC for 15.99 too, but not as bad cause of the scale.
I hope that this retuen of Marvel Legends is good, and that the just drop the Build a FIgure i deal, that has been played out waay too much. I like the larger characters, but hate being obligated to buy figs that i don’ t really want. I think that they should pack in hands and heads and weapons and energy effects instead. That would be awesome. different expressions? Something like that. They also need to complete teams. Inhumans. Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. X-Force. Giant Sized X-Men. New Avengers.
