1. SilntAngl asks: This may be totally out there, but has Mattel ever looked into taking some of the He-Man vehicle designs into the Hot Wheels realm? A die-cast Attak Trak or Wind Raider could be sweet.

Yes, this is an idea we have looked into but no plans at this time.

2. Manekochan asks: Is there any new developments on Mxyzptlk, Doctor Pyscho, or Detective Chimp – all characters that can’t use the current bucks and are too small to be build-a-figures. Has there been discussion about how to get them in the line?

Yes, we do have plans for smaller character like this.

3. Mr. Rant asks: Any update on any Matt Mason product? I was hoping to see something at Toy Fair.

We can’t comment on Major Matt Mason quite yet, but some ideas are brewing…

4. Vault asks: Last time we asked if JLU accessories could be repurposed for DCUC. Since they can’t, can some room be made in DC Classics for some of the important DC artifacts? The shelves won’t be complete without Kandor, the Spear of Destiny, the Hero dial, etc.

We do have plans for these types of accessories in the 6” line. Just you wait!

5. Noisy asks: On the Matty Forums, Toy Guru deemed the 200x Skeletor sword unneeded since it didn’t fit in continuity*. That got me thinking, do the weapons in the weapons pack have any cool backstories? What brave warrior had purple Zodac armor? Who does the green deco 200x Power Sword belong to? We love all the weapons, but what, if anything, inspired the color choices?

The Ultimate Battle Ground Weapons Pak offered us the chance to both pay tribute to the original Weapons Pak as well as offer some much needed repaints of weapons. Here are some insights to where the color weapon choices came from:

  • Blue He-Man Sword, Axe and Shield – original Weapons Pak
  • Beast Man Yellow Armor – original Weapons Pak
  • Hordak Cross Bow in White – original toy look
  • Tri-Klop sword in yellow – original cross sell painting look
  • Red Whip – 1987 movie reference
  • Cosmic Armor, Blaster and Staff in Purple – Since Black armor was already available with Wun-Dar this was a new color to add for your troops!
  • Knife and Blaster in blue highlights – designed by the Horsemen to go with Kronis but we were unable to fit into Trap Jaw’s package
  • Blaster, Club and Staff in Gray – homage to Grayskull Weapons rack
  • Jet Pack in Red – tribute to Strato’s alt deco from the vintage line
  • Electronic Power sword with green highlights – 2002 show accurate deco

We do have plans for a second Pak if this first one does well!

* – Since we asked this question, Toy Guru has let fans know that the 200x Skeletor Sword is back on the table.

  1. um, you’re joke, while cute, refers to the armor as pink… it’s pretty clearly purple, not only in the photos, but in the Q&A response as well… just sayin’. 😉

    1. If Mattel wanted to make purple armor they needed to throw a lot more blue into the mix. The new armor is really more of a lavender or lilac.

      1. Pink was an error on my part becuase I do think it’s purple. I’m just not in the best of health today.

But I agree with you too, it’s not really “purple purple”. I think I’m going to start calling it Lilac Armor. 😀

          1. No, that would be you (and others) having trouble distinguishing white.

Purple has to be really close to royal purple for me to think of it that way.

    1. Amen. There’s not a lot of manly shades on the color wheel between pink and purple. It could be fun for a girl Zodac, but who are we going to put that on?

    1. I was going to make it a hard cut between them, but when it looked funny, I let it blend a little more.

Who knows why Doc Pyscho does what he does. He’s a strange character.

  2. They have plans for Kandor and the hero dial in the DC line? I’ll believe it when I see it.

  3. Oooh accessories for DCUC that sell well enough might mean that in the future we get maybe packs of light constructs. Especially with a movie coming and all.

    1. I’m still annoyed we didn’t get a light construct for Kilowog.

Darkseid is an all-new sculpt and he has, essentially, two accessories. Kilowog shared most his parts with Brimstone and came with nothing.

Now, I always say, ‘you can’t look at the figures in a vacuum’ and I know that Question and Deadman were two new bucks, but it’s still poor planning to me. Especially when I get the feeling that the 4H probably did sculpt an attachment for Kilowog. (I don’t know that they did, but it just seems likely).

  4. I enjoyed the responses this time around!

“Will you guys ever make Hot Wheels based on totally awesome MOTU vehicles like the Bashasaurus?”

-Yes, we thought about it, but then decided not to go forward with making Hot Wheels with a giant dinosaur head in front, random circuitry, and the texture of dead flesh.

“Do you have plans for getting the odd smaller characters into DCUC?”

    -There are plans!

    “Any Matt Mason product news?”

-There is news, but we’re not telling!

“Any plans for famous accessories like Kandor?”

-Of course, like any good, criminal, super-villainy organization, there are always plans! Just wait and see! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

“What’s up with the pink He-Man armor?”

-What, you guys don’t like pink?!

  5. Sometimes you get the bull, but mostly the bull gets you? 😀

We did a few too many “how abouts” this time around. LOL

It might be time to open up some submissions.

  6. I’ll take Matty at his word and really hope that they do have plans for some DCUC accessories. I love DCUC and I’ve only really had two bigger problems with the line: accessories and getting civilian characters like Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. I hope they do get some good accessories out there like Kandor.

    1. Civilians are another big thing. I don’t think Mattel has realized that they’ve put together what could be the ultimate DC line if it just could branch out a little more. They’re so close.

  7. you forget the third big problem- distribution. They need to get that sorta out finally.

Nice to see a askmatty that isn’t 100% frustrating.

  8. Two things I noted on the round up:

    http://popculturenetwork.com/article.php?story=20100301103135108
“3) Due to the scarcity and after market prices of the DC Direct Hal Jordan, does Mattel have any plans to release their own versions in the DCUC format, or to repaint any of the previous figures as Blackest Night characters in upcoming waves (Flash as Blue Lantern, Wonder Woman as a Star Sapphire, etc..) or does DC Direct have exclusive claim to those characters for production?

We are excited to do Blackest Night characters and may have some as early as spring 2011.”

    hmmmm….box set? DEX-STARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!
(and Q4 is about everybody’s favorite, DR. heh.

also, there were a couple sites that asked about the last minute deco change to Cheetah, and the response was there is a later re-release planned, with the original Perez “naked” deco.

could this mean a WW box set? I can see WW, Donna Troy (black), Ares, Perez Cheetah, and even Giganta?
or swap out Ares for Nemesis (Tom Tresser), who would only need a black buck and probably re-use the Aquaman head. or Steve Trevor in ‘military’ suit. (if it worked for Eiling in JLU…)

    1. Dex-Star will be awesome.

I don’t know if I like the idea of changing the deco only to be sure you’re going to reissue the other one later. Kinda smacks of “better sell the inferior one now”.

  9. Geee…what a surprise..now Skelly’s 200x style sword is BACK on the tabel!!! Maybe he should think before he speaks!!!

I was a little disapointed taht Kiliwog didn’t have any extra pack ins as well-I mean there realy wasnt that much extra tooling for him other than the head and a fist with the ring.
