Third Party
Combiners at TFCON!

One of my favorite Transformers sites, TFW2005 has some great coverage from TFCon up (here, here, & here).

What I found the most interesting was the full-on presentations from third party manufacturers. It is ridiculous seeing how much stuff in the works. To stay sane, I kept my focus to the one thing I really care about: the Third-Party Combiners. We already know that MakeToys will be adding Quantron to their Giant figure later this year:

And we also knew their next project was Guardia, but it wasn’t until TFCon that we got our first look at the Guardia renders:

Those both look fantastic and don’t have me cringing the least bit at the surely $400 sticker price. Not… even… a… little… Ugh!

The other Combiner news actually came out a little after TFCon on ToyWorld’s site, but I’ll include it here. They’re doing a Project reminiscent of the old Throttlebots – those fun, simple-transformation, pull-back cars? Y’know, the ones that didn’t combine? Well, ToyWorld doesn’t care about that.

I’m already loving the realistic vehicles and innovative transformations, but for some reason this extra combining feature is really appealing to me as well. I blame that old Go-Bot Puzzler. I miss that guy… I’m not sure when these last three roll out – we’ve had the first three for awhile, but I hope it’s soon.

Check out TFW2005 for a ton more pics from the Convention!

  1. Quantron looks cool.
I’ve been trying to collect enough TFs to make my own Combiners the last few years using what was offered that kinda sorta matched the classic looks. Finally found my MotorMaster n the TF Beast/Primal Optimus, once he hit -$20 clearance for the TF4 movie stuff and I cut that goofy ratcheting 5 head shooter off his back and gave him a coat of black. Others have been slowly building, but are now buried in storage. ugh.
I think I picked up an extra Arcee from that clearance for the Technobots, too?

I took advantage of the TF4 $10 sale to get a spare set of dinoscrapkibblebots to try a G1 colored Extinction Combiner. just waiting on the last two dinos, now. No Grim. yet.

I really need to get them all out and see what’s what at some point………
I really hope I get that Disability or I am so far beyond screwed……..

    1. Good luck!

I wish was more into customizing, but even when I do a good job, I still see them as different than my normal figures. It’s weird, I know.

  2. Wow. O_O That is a LOT of third party stuff. If the “Computron” combiner is being sold seperately, I’d probably buy their “Strafe” toy as I had him as a kid. What’s cool about the 3rd party toys is, if someone makes their version of a certain TF and you don’t like it, just wait & another 3rd party group might make a better one.

    1. Or, hey, Hasbro might make a better version. Not a frequent occurrence, but it does happen. I was kicking myself for having shelled out for that Fansproject Springer once the much nicer Hasbro version came out.

Plus, Hasbro hinted at Botcon that we might get a bunch of combiners in 2015. I have to admit, I’m a lot less tempted to drop hundreds of dollars on a third party guy when I might be able to get a good Hasbro version for a fraction of the price.

      1. I still can’t pull the trigger on Springer, but I came across a Sandstorm(?) on clearance and like him. Main reason I got him was they had just announced they were releasing Hot Rod(imus) using the same mold with new head and I thought it (finally) looked cool. LOL

I haven’t seen the new Jetfire listed for less than $50 online?

  3. Those three are awesome indeed. I’m a huge Throttlebot fan and have gotten the first three releases (Grind Rod, Aurora, and Trace) and am looking forward to the remaining members. I’m a bit disappointed that Not-Goldbug won’t be a vintage VW Bug but it’s understandable since these are all updated versions of the vintage Throttlebots.

Still interested in seeing which Combiners Hasbro has planned long as it’s all G1 related and not more Bayformer stuff.

    1. I’d love to see what Hasbro is doing too. Hopefully something at SDCC.

The Throttlebots are fun – I didn’t like Trace as much as the first two (which has me worried for Freeway), but I’m more unsure of how to display them. I tend to display combiners combined – some of the ones I have have never even been in normal robot mode. With these six though, I don’t know.

  4. At your local 3rd party store 😉
Judging by the ads, I think Noisy would be very happy if you clicked on through the BBTS banner and pre-ordered some 3rd party goodness.

Top highlights for me were MakeToys Tailgate (Makes Hasbro’s offering look like hot garbage):

  5. While I suspect MakeToys’ Tailgate will look good, it’s kind of premature to say it makes Hasbro’s version look like “hot garbage” when all they’ve shown is a silhouette.

  6. Pretty great post. I simply stumbled upon your blog and wanted to mention that I’ve truly enjoyed surfing around your weblog posts. After all I will be subscribing on your feed and I am hoping you write again very soon!
