First Look at DC Collectibles
Upcoming Mr. Freeze & Two-Face!

Earlier this year, DC Collectibles pre-released images of their Toy Fair reveals and more or less stole some thunder from the other companies attending. While this one due to a bevy of interesting product, there were a couple figures that stood out. They were unexpected, they looked fantastic, and they were based on classic 90s animation.

The response to those two was so particularly strong that DCC offered up a lot of information right off the bat. The first wave would be rounded out by TNBA versions (The New Batman Adventures, a.k.a. The Redesigns) of Two-Face & Mr. Freeze. (And if you’re more a fan of the original BTAS looks, don’t worry, DCC has revealed that Wave 2 will feature 3 BTAS figures and 1 TNBA figure.)

In recent news, that same urge to reveal info is still going strong. This time with our first look at the 3D renders and articulation breakdowns for the aforementioned Two-Face & Mr. Freeze:

I don’t need this line, but I really feel like it! I think I can hear Michael Ansara’s voice when I look at that Freeze render! The first batch of figures is shaping up to be pretty great if the execution is as good as the planning has been shown to be. This is probably the most excited I’ve been about DCC product since 2011! 1. I’m still pretty gun-shy regarding DCC figures. I’ve bought 3 of their figures in the last six months and 2 of the 3 have had major problems, including Deathstroke’s arm snapping off straight out of the box. These figures look great, and a couple years ago (heck, six months ago) I’d be all over them i na heartbeat. But at this point I’m very hesitant to invest in any more DCC products.

    1. yep, that’s what Im hearing, too.
complete gamble on anything DCC, but DC*D* still holds up…???

  2. Count me as worried too. I swore off DC Direct years ago due to quality and scale issues. They lured me back in with the DCC Arkham Asylum Killer Croc, and the less said about that, the better. Love the idea of this line, but I’m nervous that I’m going to regret dropping the cash.

  3. Well, I’ve ordered those first two, and I plan on ordering the second lot. Love this style and the show that went with it. These will be my first “comic book” action figure series that I would really collect, and I hope they turn out all right, but you guys aren’t giving me a whole lot of confidence.

    1. Sorry to rattle you. To temper my initial comment – the figures will likely be fine. DCD/DCC has had issues over the years with joint breakage, but it’s likely no more/no less than any toy company. For me, I finally learned that DCC figures look great but simply aren’t meant to be posed the same way Mattel or Hasbro figures are. It’s just the nature of the product.

      1. Count me as one of the worried people; I too have sworn off DCD (and by extension DCC) products for years because of bad experiences with their quality control. The amount of breakages I’ve had with DCD figures has been appalling, and in several occasions, the figures just fell apart standing on the shelf (for example, I literally saw the left arm of my Hush Harley Quinn fall off, and there wasn’t even a breeze in the room).

That said, this is tempting enough that I think I’m going to risk it…

        1. Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I’ve never had a broken joint on a DCC figure. Right now, and actually for quite a while, they have been my favorite company producing DC figures. The QC and paint issues with Mattel actually made me quit with DCUC (as well as the crappy distribution and character choices), but DCC has consistently put out great figures in my opinion.

  4. I’ll buy a BTAS Batman. I really didn’t like the revision for New Adventures. It’s a subtle thing but it’s there. Bothersome thing to me is, I seem to recall Timm feels the New Adventures design is better, more true to his vision. I say bah to that, sir. Bah.

and what the HELL kind of blog spam is that ‘Dieter’ going on about? Just a placeholder until the unknown spammer can start dropping bombs about bootleg fashion purses and other crap?

Anyway. Two-Face doesn’t have his coin? He’s got a tiny key and a pocket watch but no coin?!

    1. DCC said he will have his coin. I’m looking for the source, but I want to say it was on their Facebook page over the weekend.

        1. OK, groovy.

*Hah* funny, isn’t it? If this had come up over a Club IE figure it would have taken a month for Scott to get the proper phrasing from Legal. 🙂

    2. I’m not sure I’ve seen Timm say he thought the NBA style was better, but I’ve definitely heard him say it was easier to animate and allowed for more fluid and dynamic action.

      1. I don’t remember, I thought it was in a print mag some time back. What I understood was that Timm was part of the ‘Krisfalusi Faction’, a group of animators who wished for the ‘old days’ when cartoons were squishy and bloby and rejecting the ‘model sheet’ because that stifled the cartoonist from really expressing him/her self, and they really hate Japanese Animation.

Of course opinions change when steady work and money is introduced into the mix. I think only Krisfalusi holds this ideal anymore. And look at how much work he’s getting, right?

I guess the philosophy is if a character looks the same from shot to shot and episode to episode that’s giving in to ‘The Man’ and it’s just ‘making donuts’ and not actually being creative.

Me, I think Timm hit a real ‘sweet spot’ with Batman: The Animated Series. Everything he’s done since then is just TOO stylized for my taste.

  5. I am a big fan of posability and articulation, and I’m vey curious how the range of motion on these joints is. They keep pointing to a shoulder and marking it 1. I sure hope there is a ball joint in there or else the whole articulation scheme falls apart. Catwoman’s shouilder looks ball-jointish so I hope so.
