Matty on Facebook: Goddess Revealed

Today on Facebook, Mattel posted images of the December Masters of the Universe bonus figure, the Goddess! And we were in for a little surprise in regards to her color palette. Her bio and some commentary after the jump…

Real name: Sharella

After the death of King Grayskull, the Power of the Universe was transferred from the Sword of He to the Council of Elders who hid it deep within his castle. Knowing the full sword was the key to channeling the power, they split it in two to prevent it from falling into the hands of evil. For five centuries they waited for a worthy heir to be born. During this time their spirit guide, the creature known as “The Goddess” of Eternia, trained secret heroic guardians to keep the two halves of the sword separated. Many of these brave warriors took the name “He-Man” in honor of the sword they protected – giving birth to many different legends of the protector of Eternia.

That’s a pretty decent bio and casts a wide net over any various versions of He-Man that can be placed between Grayskull and Adam, particularly the Savage He-Man / Wundar. Her real name, Sharella, looks to be printed on a sticker so I’m sorta of wondering if there is a typo or a last minute name change under there. The final samples may be printed correctly, though, and we may never know.

Finally, she’s cast in a translucent plastic. I’m not sure how I feel about that one. Since she’s a spirit guide, I suppose we’re meant to think of her as an Elder or similar light construct. I’ll have to have her in hand this Christmas before I pass judgement on her coloring, but it sure seems like an odd choice right now.

Now that we’ve seen a preview of the full year’s worth of figures and bios, were you happy with MOTU 2009?

  1. I’m a big fan of translucent stuff. I kinda want to see her with her armor off, but I guess she doesn’t have the unarmored head does she?

  2. I really like the story Matty is developing for this line. It feels appropriately epic.

But…I think I’m passing on this figure. Even with the see-through skin she doesn’t seem unique enough.

  3. Too much the same as Teela. The various armor and weapons don’t seem all that useful. I may pass.

  4. can we get her a theme song by the Knack?

    “OOH my little pretty one
    pretty one
When you gona give me some
    TIME SHA-RELLA!”

  5. I will definitely be picking this up. I’m actually disappointed they went with transluscent skin. Why didn’t they do that with Chemo! I’ve always been a big Goddess fan, so this is a welcome addition to my collection!

Hard to belive in the same year I’m getting He-RO, Scare Glow, and Goddess!!! 2009 has been a GREAT year for MOTUC!
