Today on Facebook, Mattel posted images of the March Masters of the Universe figure, Mos Man! There’s been plenty of controversy about Moss Man already, but I don’t get it. I’m of that 1/5th minority that prefers the flocking to the carpeted version shown at SDCC, and I’m ambivalent on the ears. Speaking of, packaged pictures before we know what percentage of the ears have been “fixed”? That’s not a good sign.
We’re still looking to see if we can do a running change
on Moss Man’s ears. But for now, here he is packaged!
From the back of his box, here is Moss Man’s bio:
Real Name: Kreean’Ot N’Horosh
Thought of for many centuries to be an urban legend, the creature called “Moss Man” was in fact an ancient Eternian nature god and ally to King Grayskull. During the rise of Skeletor, and the subsequent battles with the Snake Men and Horde Invaders, Moss Man often joined forces with the Masters of the Universe helping to protect freedom for all forms of life. He was instrumental in helping them win the Second Ultimate Battleground using his powers over plant life and his “fur” of forest green to fool and frustrate his wicked foes.
If we have packaged samples already I’m not feeling good about getting the ears fixed at all.
Well, personally, I’m of that mindset that the running change was an awful, awful idea, but I fear for TG if he’s not able to come through. Hopefully, he got a good chunk of them changed.
If not… “Reissue Moss Man” will be on his way!
“We’re still looking to see”
As a DC collector, let me tell you MOTU guys – that’s not a good sign.
Exactly.
The figure looks great, the bio could use some work. Do you think he was preternian before they had to use the longer loincloth to cover the up flocking? It seems rushed in there.
For some reason, I feel like the MYP Moss Man was similarly old, but I don’t remember.
Why does Moss Man have to be so old? I thought there were thousands of years between the two time periods. Is Moss Man a god just to be able to live that long?
The timeframe between He-Man and Grayskull shouldn’t be all that long. A thousand years at most with 500 years being optimal.
If you look at the level of technology and architecture we’re use to seeing in the few blips of Pre-Eternia, it would be ridiculous if they were stunted in that area. I like 500 years for Grayskull and 100 years for Wun-Dar and Scareglow.
Flocked or Unflocked ears, I think he looks great. Being a DCUC collector I’ve learned to just be happy with what you get, because it could be worse.
I don’t know if I could do that, but more power to you!
dudes, did they… just turn moss man into swamp thing? cuz it kind of reads like they just did.
i agree on the bio being a tad… odd. admittedly, we have litte canon on the pre-ternian era, but what we have, there’s no moss man. and the problem i have is, how many grayskull contemporaries outlived him and still exist in the modern era? right? king hiss and the snake men are cast out of eternia, but don’t age, neither does the horde when cast out to despondos… and zodac survives, and now moss man too… sweet jesus, why are there new heroes and villains when all the old guys are still around? does anyone ever die in the he-thos besides the guy holding the power sword? WTF?
Until they have the Eternia equivalent of Constantine take Moss Man’s skeleton around for a tour, I think we’re okay.
I don’t think having Zodac and Moss Man survive the few hundred years is so bad, but they can’t do to many more…
Looking at him in package, I still don’t get the hubbub. This figure looks just like the original. Which, I thought, was the point.
I know why he’s packaged with the Beast Man head and I’m going to open him anyway, but it feels wrong.
FYI, IAT IT Dept, When you click on the pic, it links to King Randor.
Also, and I know it’s not news, but they really ought to stop with the “real names.” Because, unless there’s some kind of justification for them (like Adam or Duncan), they all suck. I’d like somebody to produce a recording of a Mattel rep trying to say “Kreean’Ot N’Horosh.”
Fixed, thank you.
I agree on the name. There has to be a story behind it (alphabet soup?).
I was wondering about the Randor thing myself.
Templates. For a long time the Facebook photo of Matty linked to the very first time I used it. I just dropped that link avenue altogether because I could not remember to change it.
