As if I didn’t already have enough to do, I’ve opened up a new blog! CastleGrayskull.info will act as an info dump for all news & updates regarding Mattel’s proposed MOTU Classics Castle Grayskull. Hopefully, it will serve as a useful resource for any interested in or who has questions about the project.

          1. Castle Grayskull? Yes!

Mod Edit: Well, we got to three comments before it got nuts. That might be a record. Let’s keep to toy politics instead of the real deal!

  1. Damn’ good idea you had there, Noisy.

Just one thing: Royal Blue and White text on a Black background? Makes my eyes cross and recross just looking at it! Could I suggest Cyan or Lime Green instead of Blue and Yellow instead of White? Might be a bit easier on the eyes.

    1. I’ll look at the text and make some changes. Making the links green is great and I’ll look at some off whites for the main text and see what I like. Thanks for the feedback!

        1. One last suggestion: From my own website (now long since defunct), colours of lesser contrast on a black backround help markedly. I’ve found that font colour tags of yellow, red, lime, silver, gold, cyan, and the mysterious, unnamed, brassy #C19447 work well. Orange, magenta, pink, tan, and rose are decent, but would be better choices for a PoP site. Blue, green, and gray are just too dark to register well.

If you’ve ever looked at one of those optical illusions which are grids of black squares separated by white strips and “seen” grey dots separating the squares at the corners, that’s what happens with white text on a black background. The trick is finding a colour that’s light or bright enough to be nicely visible, but not so light that it triggers the “smudging” effect.

Hope this helps, and keep up the sterling work!

  2. As I’ve said before, I’d be all over this pre-order if not for this little bit at the end of the listing:

“One last thing… because this is a work-in-progress, features may be added or removed from the proposed design, but we can’t confirm anything now. We’re seriously as excited as you are by the prospect of finally having a Castle Grayskull® playset and Mattel will do everything to ensure we can deliver as much value as possible!”

If they’d said, “Everything we’ve shown so far is guaranteed; things can only be added”, then I wouldn’t feel so iffy about signing up.

I can’t imagine they’d pull a fast one and end up giving us a hollowed-out shell with minimal paint and no accessories…but by Odin’s beard, can you imagine the SH*TSTORM that would follow if they did?

    1. Scott actually said that in the NYCC reveal. If you check out the video he very clearly states that they guarantee everything shown will be included, they just might add to it.

      1. I know this can’t move much beyond “Mattel says vs. Scott says”, Toyman is correct. Scott stresses multiple times that nothing in the blueprints will be removed.

You can listen to TNI’s video here: http://castlegrayskull.info/?p=24

Or read it in the transcript here: http://castlegrayskull.info/?p=26

If you look at the blueprints closely a lot of the interior items TG namechecks aren’t present which is why I believe things will be added.

  3. Are they trying to keep track of everyone who pre-orders who posts over at He-Man.org? May be an unscientific (yet interesting) way to guage numbers.

  4. Don’t know if it’ll do any good, but I posted a link to the sales page on the wall of all my local comic shops Facebook pages suggesting that they might have customers who would be interested in one.

    1. Great! I’m confident there are enough folks out there that would want a giant Grayskull, even with the price factored in, it’s just a matter of reaching them.

  5. Pre-ordered mine, no way I’m missing out on that, anyone hesitating, get some balls and get in on this moment a lot of people have been waiting for…think of all the figures you buy…when was the last time a decent playset came out???!!!

      1. Yup, the Sewer Lair looks pretty dang nifty, all right. But foreigners aren’t allowed to have it. So the real question should be:

When was the last time a decent playset came out that EVERYONE IN THE WORLD AND NOT JUST THE AMERICANS could have a crack at?

But I’m definitely with Toxin on this. There’s not enough time on the pre-order to fart around. Take the plunge, fence-sitters, and we’ll all win! };D

        1. The good thing is that the pre-order is a zero charge, so there’s no reason to wait!

Regarding TMNT, you’ll have to talk to Vault about specifics because I don’t quite remember, but we talked to Playmates and they let us know they have exclusive overseas distributors lined up which is why they’re only releasing it domestically. I think Vault has the names of the company for Europe.

          1. [In the manner of Bill Lumbergh]: Hmmmmm . . . . Yyyeeeaah . . . .

Thanks for that tidbit! Incredibly tempting, but two things are holding me back on this. First, there’s the timing. MOTUC alone is ramping up for a huge end-of-year blitz (and who knows what else in Star Wars and TransFormers), and I want to be sure to have enough moulee-rah to buy Christmas presents for everyone, as well as ToD Sorceress and Granamyr, so the cost would be prohibitive enough on its own. But, as ever these days, the biggest factor is space. As achingly cool as the Lair is, I just won’t have the space for it. Especially if Castle Grayskull gets made, and even then, I’d have to find a place in the garage to shoehorn the castle in.

Slimy sewer, or ancient fortress of mystery and power? No contest. Gastle Grayskull all the way, baby. But thanks for the ray of hope. May some other European collectors read that and take heart that they might one day soon acquire that particular chelonian grail.

        2. “When was the last time a decent playset came out that EVERYONE IN THE WORLD AND NOT JUST THE AMERICANS could have a crack at?”

welcome to life as an American Whovian, where we have to pay out the nose for many DW common items or worse: “exclusives”, usually found at Forbidden Planet. or Tesco/Asda for cheap. And now they can’t seem to do many items that aren’t those goofy Lego knock-offs.

(STILL grumbling about the Vortex Manipulator I tried to buy a year and a half ago, yet STILL hasn’t been released! “pushed back to Spring 2013 now! GGRRRR!!!!)

          1. Hells, mate, there are loads of Who things here I’ve never clapped eyes on “in the wild,” as it were. The 25-Packs of Adipose and Cybermats, for example. Most of the “Pandorica” wave, and ALL of the Giant Wasp build-a-figure wave.

We’re almost as bad off here in the homeland of Who (or, at least, here in Southeast Devon), if that makes you feel any better.

            1. HA! Took me a YEAR to finally find a 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver and I paid way too much for the 11th Doctor’s version at a con. Then came a mini flood of recent releases that have all but dried up at local retail, and I’ll never find the ‘psychic paper’ release of the Sonic Screwdriver to save my life.

Not that I’m in any way a hard-core Whovian. I just like the show. 🙂

(Tom Baker FTW and yes I have the damned scarf)

      2. I do remember seeing a little bit of it and yeah it was cool…but I’m all in, and I only started collecting motu classics a couple months ago! My order of Rattlor, Trapjaw, King Grayskull, the weapons pack, and original skeletor and Mekaneck just got here! I’m on a MOTU buying spree, love it!! Must be because I was born in 82 so I’ve been a He-Man fan since a kid, just forgot all about this stuff until recently…

      1. Thanks for jumping in! IAT uses Gravatars. Check out their site here-> https://en.gravatar.com/ Basically, once you register an e-mail address with them and attach an avatar to it, then any time you post with that e-mail address, the site will include your gravatar. It’s pretty cool.

        1. Wow, I’ve been been here a while and never heard of gravatars before! Learn something new every day.

  6. if this goes through, snake mountain next…i know i’m thinking ahead but it’s possible…

  7. Love the “Grayskull verdigris” colour you got for the text, now! Much easier to read, and entirely appropriate.

      1. Hah! Didn’t get down that far! Nice touch! I hope to do something to pursuade people to buy Grayskull myself this week. Further bulletins as events warrrant.
