Keldor Sword Exclusive Review

This is going to be a quick review today. I usually aim for about a thousand words per review, but all I’m covering is a teeny, tiny sword. I don’t remember if I posted about it at the time, but shortly before Power-Con Mattel announced they’d give away an accessory to attendees. This is that accessory.

Speculation ran wild about what it could be, particularly after Toy Guru referred to it as a “happy accident”. Amazingly, it was kept secret until the first day of Power-Con, when it was revealed to be a set of Keldor swords from the upcoming Weapons Pak that had been mistakenly tooled as one piece.

Now, I’ll probably talk it about more in the Weapons Pack review, but I’m stoked that we got these swords (or this sword, in this case) at all. This is one of the collector-demanded items where we know our voices made a difference. I still remember when Mattel was insistent that this little accessory would damange the cohesive image of the brand. I still remember other collectors telling me and others to drop it. Thankfully, we didn’t listen on either account.

Anyway, I’m still looking forward to the corrected version in the Weapons Pak, but I do agree with Toy Guru about this “happy accident”. They’re cool fused together too. This is a great exclusive since it’s one that not everyone is going to want, particulary those folks who insisted I quit talking about them back when they couldn’t happen. It was also a great exclusive that I was able to get thanks to the generous folks at Fantastic Plastic Toys who took pre-orders for the mysterious accessory for only the cost of the attending ticket and shipping. Huge shout out to those guys!

That’s pretty much it. Collector demanded. Cool accessory. Happy accident. Fun exclusive. On to the pics…

Keldor Sword Exclusive Review

  1. Love the comic!

Also, this is one of those oh-so-rare instances where I’m thrilled a convention exclusive is something I don’t want, yet allows others to get a piece they’ve been craving. Maybe not EVERYONE who wants one gets one, but it’s better than having something EVERYONE wants and only a very, very, very, very few actually manage to get. Like any of the G.I. Joe SDCC exclusives for the last three years, for example. Not that I’m bitter. Mutters under breath: Fargin’ bastiches.

  2. I hear you on those exclusives, Beedo. That Oktober Guard set is going to haunt me for a long time…

Great work on sword coverage, Noisy.

      1. And Jinx. And Cold Slither Zarana. And . . . . No. If I go on to list the G.I. Joe Convention exclusives, that way madness lies.

  3. I don’t know why I’ve never used Skeletor’s head on Keldor’s body, but I’m going to have to do that now.

  4. Woulda been nice if this had the same conjoined hilts like the 200x swords. That is my only gripe about the Keldor swords.

      1. The way the talon grips the ball is awesome on the 200X swords. I guess too much detail would have them cancel them.

          1. Same here, I got two sets for Skeletor and Keldor. I’ll probably give the Weapons Pak ones to Skeletor but Keldor will keep the 200X ones.

  5. I guess it was rather fortuitous that they had swords that were accidentally fused together. Although I’ve heard that the twin swords in the weapons pak stick to each other nice & tight, I actually kind like the though of just having one solid piece in addition to having the two halves.

Great exclusive though — i.e. a treat for attendees and not something that would leave a gaping hole in anyone else’s collection —

  6. I am glad that I was able to get this through FANTASTIC PLASTIC TOYS, they were super easy to do business with. Now that being said this “merged” Keldor sword is pretty cool. I like having the option for a solid sword for battle or the dual swords in the weapon pak for great posing abilities. If I had missed this item I could’ve survived, but it would have bugged the crap outta me till i found one. So thanks for the mistake Matty..I actually enjoyed this one for a change.

  7. You know, I never understood the demand for this/these sword(s). I guess it’s because I just used the one(s) that came with my 200x Skeletor for my MOTUC Keldor. And from the pics I’ve seen, this version looks no better than the 200x ones anyway, so I don’t understand the fuss. Maybe I’ll change my mind, but I’m very “meh” about these.

Now, a blood red sword and axe for Dragon Blaster Skeletor would have got me excited. But each to their own, I guess.

But I am glad they are getting these fan demanded things out eventually. I loved that Fisto came with that big ass 200x sword (which went straight to my 200x Fisto).

How about a freakin’ Zodac chair now?
