Mattycollector Announces October
MOTU Classics via E-Mail

Mattycollector announced the upcoming October figure via a “sneak peek” e-mail for Club Eternia members. I’d outright tell you who it is, but I thought I’d preserve the “click to see” aspect of the e-mail. Not that I got the e-mail myself… I mean, why would I? I’m just a subscriber…

After I saw the news pop up on Twitter, I happily clicked over to my e-mail to see it for myself. No such luck. Mattycollector did let me know that WWE Legends Bundy will be available for sale this Monday, but no, no picture of Mekaneck for me. Oh, did I spill it right there? Oops… Anyway, I swiped said pic for your perusal:

This was a unexpected surprise for me since the October figure is usually revealed at SDCC! Yes, Stinkor did give us the armor, so Mekanek didn’t seem too far away, but I honestly expected Mattel to hold out on him until post-Ram Man at this point.

Nonetheless, Meksy looks pretty sharp! Not a lot of MO2K influence here, but I can’t think of anything that MO2K really did to alter or change him that wouldn’t instantly be considered a “hyper-anime” element. I’m hoping that there’s still some deco work to be done on the goggles – something to differentiate them a little more: a metallic green, chrome, even a different shade of silver. Also, I have some high hopes for those neck pieces (will they be combinable, will the connections be ball-jointed to allow for some directional movement), but this is going to be another solid month for 2012. Feels like we’re filling up holes in the classic line left and right!

  1. I only have the DC sub, but I do get regular email alerts from Matty including this one. Has there been an official release pic of Frosta yet? I remember the Con proto had a few people questioning her …paint apps…in a way that would not be out of place with my cousin, her wife, and friends at the drag show tonight, or with the dude in ripped jeans in the go-go cage. 0.o?

and what’s burning at 1am???? no odd flickerings outside, or sirens yet, but I definitely smell something out there. no firework pops, either.

  2. Should I be miffed or simply unsurprised that I, as a Club Eternia member in good standing, haven’t received this email sneak peak?

  3. Hey, long time reader first time poster. Just thought I’d point out that if you didn’t get the email from Matty then you may want to check your SPAM folder. I too am a subscriber and for some reason, even though I get regular emails from MattyCollector, gmail decided to flag this particular email from Matty as SPAM. Just thought I’d throw that out there if others are confused as to why they didn’t recieve an email.

  4. From the description it looks like they intend the neck pieces to be either/or. There’s no logical reason for them to NOT be able to be linked yet given the Fisto nonsense I can’t help but think that for some reason, some totally bizarre reason, Matty is going to design the necks in a way so they can’t be linked.

And that’s gonna be a ‘design choice by the 4H’, isn’t it? *sigh*

  5. It looks like some sort of blue base that attaches the neck piece to the body, so I doubt you’d be able to link both pieces.

I don’t really see a need, anyway. The bigger neck extension doubles his height and looks cool enough. Just as long as it’s sturdy and doesn’t make the figure top heavy, I’ll be happy. The 200X Mekaneck is impossible to keep standing.

    1. I noticed this as well. No biggie. As you said, the bigger extension does seem to be tall enough for most. Of course, it would be cool to have him be able to look over the couch cushions and see the Evil Warriors camped out up there…

      1. Watch, they’ll make the neck parts out of the same foam as Stay Puft. 🙂

(I run that round and round in my head and I want sooo much for it to be a joke and yet, and yet, I almost expect it to turn out true!)

  6. Looks . . . exactly how I expected he would look.

Which isn’t to say it’s a bad figure. Just limited excitement on my part.

  7. Did anyone who didnt get the email check their spam folders? I saw something from TG about checking there.

Overall pretty excited about Mekaneck he looks like a great uopdate of the vintage figure. It would be nice if his 2 neck segments attached but as it is witht he long one he should be close to megator/titus stature

  8. Finally!!! I was so eager to add Mek to my collection, He’s one of my all-times favourites!
Now I can stop complain about his absence and start a new rant about Ram-Man! 😀

  9. I assume it hit the spam folders because they foolishly used one of the common ways to filter, such as the ‘undisclosed recipients’ address?

And not to be too snarky, shouldn’t mail like this have been, like, a no-brainer from the start? It almost looks like someone figured “hey, we’ve got this format for the Toyfare ad slicks, why don’t we turn this into an email ad?”

  10. Between this news, and having my son tackle me in a bear hug while shouting “dadda!”, this has been a pretty sweet saturday! Now, if Mattel could just get to Extendar and Rio Blast…

  11. Looking forward to this guy! My notification e-mail came through to me, no problem. Weird.

While this guy looks darn good, something still bugs me. Why hasn’t he got mis-matched vambraces? Has that mould broken, or something? We get characters like Marzo with the larger left vambrace, but characters who actually had it in the old days aren’t getting it. Baffling.

Oh, well, another classic slot filled! Thirty to go,now, if I recall correctly . . . .

  12. i’m kind of hoping that that club is nice and firm… no need to repeat the gooey club of man at arms right? mek deserves a nice stiff one!

  13. Thirty more? There’s Ram Man and Jitsu from the earlier years, plus guys like Rio Blast, Clamp Champ, Ninjor, Rattlor, Tung Lashor… I know Mosquitor is also on the way which is awesome.

Can’t wait to see if Rammy makes it this year or next at the very least.

    1. Yup, thirty. Or maybe thirty-one. (Depending on whether or not you count “leaked” characters like Mosquitor or Mekaneck which have yet to be made as confirmed parts of the collection or not.) And that’s including Laser Light He-Man and Laser Power Skeletor. We’re past the half-way point, now.

      Huzzah!

  14. You aren’t alone, Noisy, the e-mail skipped me, too (and it wasn’t in my spam folder, either)… Still waiting for any news or charges on Jay Garrick, nothing in e-mail and no charges to my account, yet, not even those crazy ones that apparently include the cost of Metron in the totals.

    1. I got my shipping notice for Jay early this morning. Ar least I think it’s Jay since they charged $20 for something from Club Infinite Earths. Can’t understand how I ended up paying two bucks more when I have a sub, but go figure. Matty Collector and all thing Digital River are straight out of Bizarro World.

  15. The figure looks great, but then again, his look has been pretty much the same through all the various incarnations of the Masters. I would say this character was pretty much “idiot-proof”, but sometimes those are famous last-words when dealing with Matty.
As a side note, I never understood why a recon/spy type character came with a gigantic freakin’ melee weapon. Shouldn’t he have like a cool sniper rifle ala Webstor? The weapon pairings with some of the Masters just seems completely random.

    1. I think, owing to the original being hollow, it was intended to double as a telescope, adding to his periscope powers. That’s how I used it as a kid, anyway.

      1. That makes it much cooler! I don’t think I’ve ever seen him use it like that, but I like it!!
