Previews Exclusive:
Mezco’s One:12 DK Batman

Back in July, Mezco announced their One:12 line, a line of 6″ figures treated as if they were sixth scale. It was a pretty cool idea. Then they kicked things off a DK Batman – even cooler. Previews ended up with the exclusive that most interests me, the classic blue/grey with the oval. That exclusive is now available for pre-order:

A PREVIEWS Exclusive! Mezco redesigns the 6″ scale figure by combining poseable action figures with real cloth outfitting, in a similar fashion to the 1/6th scale and larger collectables, for the new One:12 Collective line.

Combining superior sculpting with an abundance of articulation, the One:12 Collective figures feature over 32 points of articulation, capable of over 40,000 possible poses. Digitally sculpted by the industry’s finest artists and painstakingly engineered by Mezco’s production team is a state of the art collectable that holds up to real play. The line kicks off with Batman: The Dark Knight Returns figure, available exclusively through PREVIEWS. The costume is meticulously tailored and uses specially selected materials to create the highest standard of outfitting and drapery at the 6″ scale. Fabrication, color, drapery, comparative scale and mobility are all closely considered to bring the finest attire achievable. The figure includes a display base as well as a multitude of accessories. These accessories are designed to have a “real world” look to further make the figure seem like it has truly come to life. These accessories, also precisely crafted, range from changeable parts to character specific weapons, equipment and props. Mezco’s One:12 DK Batman

    1. Funny, I saw a half-size Sideshow figure for a third the price! This is an interesting experiment!

  1. Hopefully they’ll announce the “dark blue, no oval” one before the black one comes out. I preordered the black just to be sure I don’t miss out, but for some reason I like the dark blue one a bit more.

And I REALLY hope it doesn’t take forever to see what they’re going to do with the Batman ’89 license. I’m already drooling…

    1. Just a heads up the dark blue no oval Batman will be available on the Mezcotoyz website on black Friday. I’ll be in for one myself.

      1. Well then. I shall have to check that out next Friday. If I can snag it, awesome. If not, oh well, it’s not like the black one isn’t AWESOME.

  2. So this version has LESS stuff compared to the ‘standard’ release, whatever that is? Or are the extras shown in addition to the earlier reveal?

Agree with others who say $70 is nuts. No, let me rephrase. It’s over valued. I like it but I sure can’t support it. I would have gone for it at $40, I guess.

Gotta have Carrie Robin, however. Or (more likely) Superman.

    1. If Sideshow sold out of a sixth scale Batman for $200, why is Mezco nuts charging $65 for their twelfth scale version?

      1. It’s all just perspective. I think you sum it up – we’re coming at it from the high-end angle which this guy appears to be done in. Mezco is going for the ultimate twelfth scale figure and it doesn’t occur to me to compare it to anything Mattel is doing.

As for the specific cost, I’d like to pay $1 for a gallon of gas, $500 for a new car, & $10 for MOTU figures. Doesn’t matter much though. lol

        1. Exactly. If you’re looking at it as just an action figure, yeah it’s way expensive. But if you’re looking at it as a 1/6 scale piece only smaller, it’s a steal. Personally, 1/6 scale quality at 6″ size is something I have literally dreamed about. $40 would have been the sweet spot, sure, but I was expecting them to be around $100, so $65 is not too bad.

      2. Depends on what Mezco wants. Do they want to produce an action figure that can be enjoyed by as many people as want to buy it, or do they want to produce limited edition ‘scalper bait’ that feeds the same frantic feeding frenzy that seems to be the current business model of Sideshow/Hot Toys/whatever other company Dragon starts up?

The whole “It’s like those expensive 1/6 scale figures you can never get only smaller!” jive doesn’t fly for me. People forget that the 1/6 madness started as a Chinese company wanting to make ‘GI Joe Plus’, and the gag was you could take the clothing and equipment off to customize. But wave after wave of German WW II figures didn’t set the world on fire. ‘Bootleg’ movie and TV characters did. Then (like the online streaming/downloading service Crunchyroll) they went legit, started paying for licenses and the $200+ faux GI Joe became Indiana Jones et al.

But the Mezco Dark Knight, you can’t take his clothing off. That’s all stitched and glued on. Soft goods become problematical the smaller the scale. I’m thinking that you’ll see seams split like crazy as people play with the figure.

They seem to want to do ‘Super Mego’ at a time when all the other ‘Mego imitates’ have been crashing and burning. Mego style is pretty specific in its charm.

Yeah, I’d like $1 a gallon gas too, only I remember when it WAS a buck. It was back when the price for an issue of ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ was sticker shock compared to other comics. At that time Star Wars ‘Power of the Force’ figures were 3/$1 at KayBee Toys and I kick myself for not buying some B-Wings at Children’s Palace who had PALLET LOADS of them at $10 each. Of course all that was ‘deadstock’ and didn’t reflect actual pricing.

And nobody has addressed my questions about the accessories

        1. Well I don’t think anyone has a definite answer on that, but it /looks/ like it has the same accessories, except whereas the black one has the boot with holster and pistol, this one has the leg ammo belt and rifle (so, going issue-specific with the different outfits, nice). I’m not sure about the grappling hook, I’ve only seen it pictured with this one but the BBTS listing for the normal one mentions that it has it too, I believe.

          1. Makes sense for accessories to be ‘scene specific’, I can’t argue with that as a concept, and if one is only buying one ‘variation’ because it’s one’s fav visual, it probably doesn’t matter.

Saying that, I’m sure some may feel a little cheated because that initial release sure seemed loaded with goodies, and here you get a head and a pair of ‘fist full o batarangs’ hands. I have no idea about that grappling hook, I can’t recall anything looking like that in the comic. So I got out my vintage ‘The Complete Frank Miller Batman’ and went looking, couldn’t find that thing anywhere.

This costume is the specific look seen in the latter half of the first ‘book’ and it SHOULD come with the rifle. Also to look like the first re-appearance’ of Batman that thigh belt should be removable.

            1. Looks like both the thigh and utility belts will be removable, according to the release about the dark blue version linked above. As far as the rest of the accessories, looks like the only question is the gun and accoutrements. The dark blue one is listed with both the rifle & belt and pistol & boot. The black version only mentions the pistol and the light blue only mentions the rifle. So we shall see. All 3 are listed as including everything else: 2 heads, 4 pairs of hands, grappling hook, stand, & cape stand.

Personally, I’m not going to be displaying him with either gun anyway (I’ve got my eyes on those batarang hands…), so that’s not a huge concern to me. I just really love the look of that dark blue.

  3. “Combining superior sculpting with an abundance of articulation, the One:12 Collective figures feature over 32 points of articulation, capable of over 40,000 possible poses”

I just imagine some poor intern at Mezco tallying up all the possible poses he can think of for Batman… 😀
