Hot Toy Announces
Back to the Future DeLorean

So funny story, my wife was not thrilled with my burning desire to own the Hot Toys 1989 Batmobile. Normally, she doesn’t concern herself with my toy buying, but at a certain size, concern inevitably kicks in. Her contention to me was that I could buy the Batmobile once we owned our first home. I accepted this. She, however, forgot. A year later, when we were in our house, this giant box showed up. There was a brief flicker of annoyance as I recall, but with the conditions met? A deal is a deal.

Here’s the thing. The house isn’t big enough! The damn thing is still in its box, occasionally trotted out for pictures. I love it, but I hate that I can’t display it. That makes me certain that I should not have bought it. Well, now we’ve got yet another cool 80s car given the Hot Toys treatment. Maybe I need to get a bigger house?

“Are you telling me that you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean?”

    1. I’ve just moved, but in my old town, every year there’s a parade in April and about a dozen Deloreans take part. It’s pretty awesome.

  1. It seems most people are going for Marty only. I can understand that. The price, while better than what I anticipated, is still a lot of bread to throw out there, even if it is a piece of mass-produced art. But indeed, it’s the size that is just too darn much.

    1. The size is really the concern for me. The price is fine with it being so far off – $60 a month for 10 months (and we’ve got 18 til this comes out, if it’s on time). But the size… ugh.

      1. Solution: Second garage. It stores your 1/6 cars, your complete Iron Man Hall of Armor, the enlarged photo stage you clearly need, Castle Grayskull…

Oh, wait. Baby on way. Hmmm, how to combine the two, piggyback the ‘Noisy Cave’ on the needs of the spawnling… 🙂

    1. I assume that at least the Part II version will be its own release, as Hot Toys (and the other companies in the fold, they’re all sub-arms of Dragon IIRC) won’t pass up the chance to really drain the wallet.

I think there’s something like at least 6 new 1/6 Iron Man armors up for preorder at HLJ right now… let me check… Yeah, 6 for pre-order, a couple in stock, and Three A has a couple up, and then there’s the ‘workshop in progress’ one…

Yeah, a man could go broke with this stuff. 🙂

Shame the Mk III is order stop already, I suspect that’s one Noisy wants for his Avengers collection.

I could see Hot Toys making a combo of the BTTF II/ III car with swappable parts. That might take pity on the poor collectors. If they were to make Doc’s Steampunk Time Train in 1/6, that, that would be so insane, nobody could afford it!

    2. It being high end should lend itself to that type of “all you’ll ever need”, but I wouldn’t be happy if any of the modifications to make it II/III interrupted the I piece. I’d probably never dress it up as the others anyway. lol

  2. Forget those dreary old race car beds, Noisy Jr can sleep in the Batmobile or DeLorean, her pick! 😉

  3. Over $600.

    What the what.

So, Doc, Marty, the car, combined that’s over $1000 USD for a (admittedly awesome) tribute to an ’80s film.

Boy does this raise conflicts in my head. Shocking confession, I don’t really care for BTTF, it has no big nerd touchpoint in my head, it’s just another ’80s teen comedy as far as I’m concerned. Heck, I got the DVDs when before they officially came out as one of the perks of a Suncoast managers’ conference and I’ve never watched them. I just don’t care.

But boy do I admire the detail here. So much could be just stickers and cardboard but it’s not, it’s a giant highly detailed 1/6 scale model kit that some Chinese slave labor lovingly assembled so I don’t have to.

I want to paint it yellow and put some Adventure Team stickers on it. 🙂

(confession. I don’t care jack crap about the movie but boy do I wish I could own a DeLorean. Even before the movie I wanted one. I’ve wanted a sleek car with gull-wing doors since forever. It’s a FUTURE car, right?)
