Wun-Dar Review

I don't know how to start this article. For Scareglow or Man-At-Arms, I could regale you with memories of childhood past. For Goddess or He-Ro, I could talk about how it's cool to discover these old characters that didn't make the cut in my youth. For Zodak or King Grayskull, I could talk about my attitudes toward the 200x and how ready I am for an all-new character made specifically for MOTU Classics. But Wun-Dar? What do I say? He is all those things and yet none of them at the same time. As the Savage He-Man, he has a vintage toy, sort of, but he's not part of the vintage mythos. As Wun-Dar, he's technically the only original character in MOTU Classics so far, but not really. He's really an homage to a legend; a tongue-in-cheek nod to a genuine MOTU mystery.

Most Requested Semi-Finals, Round One

Last year, our readers voted DC Comic's Mera as the Most Requested figure of 2009. This week, DC Direct announced a Red Lantern Mera figure in their Blackest Night line. Coincidence? We don't think so! And while we're still waiting for a proper Mera to find her way into DC Classics to cross her off our list, we'll be looking forward to picking up DC Direct's Red Lantern Mera this winter. Around the time she's expected to arrive in stores, we'll be voting on the 2010 Most Requested figure. But, we can't get there without some finalists. Today, we're asking you to pick the first three.

Vault Review Figma’s Max Factory Aegis

Every once in a while, something odd happens. I’m compelled to buy a toy that I know nothing about. My friends might tell you that it’s not that odd an occurrence, but I promise it is. The reasons vary. First, she’s a robot girl. If you’re familiar with my reviews, you’ve probably noticed I’m a sucker for robot girls. Second, just from the solicit pictures, you could tell this figure had a cuteness about her. Sure there are a lot of good looking toys out there, especially from Japan, but Aegis had something most toys lack. Somehow, Figma was able to imbue this figure’s looks with a sense of personality.

Vault Review: Dark Knight Movie Masters Two-Face

Out of Batman’s entire disfigured, homicidal rogues gallery, my favorite has always been Two-Face. I think what appeals to me is that he isn’t inherently bad like the others. Because of that, I was planning on picking up the Movie Masters figure online. Luckily, I found it at TRU over the weekend and saved on shipping. For any of you out there who haven’t heard, Toys R Us will be carrying the rest of these figures in addition to their being offered on Mattycollector.com. Seeing them together, I was almost tempted to pick up Missile Launcher Joker, but ultimately just settled for Harvey.

DC Direct Blackest Night Series 7 & 8

As part of Monday's DC solicits, DC Direct announced two new waves of Blackest Night figures, wave seven in November and wave eight in December. With wave six already on the schedule for November 3rd, that's going to make for an avalanche of new figures right before the holidays. There's some nice surprises including an oversized Arkillo, a 2-pack of smaller figures, more Black Lanterns, and more deputized lanterns including the very first Mera, our 2009 Most Requested Figure, in 6" form!
