DC Collectibles is churning out their Animated figures faster & faster now that they\u2019ve conquered the early QC concerns. <\/p>\n

Eight figures have come out these last few weeks and that\u2019s not to mention the recently released Batmobile! I was already behind, having not reviewed a few figures from this summer, and with six more figures coming soon (Harley should drop this week) I decided it was time to get that stack reviewed up, hopefully between three to five of them this week. <\/p>\n

I wanted to start with Robin because he\u2019s another pleasantly surprising figure. I was always fond of the original Animated Robin figure even though it was terribly out of place. One of my favorite Robin figures was basically one that shouldn\u2019t exist, Marlon Wayans as Robin. The actor was cast & fitted for his Robin costume in Batman Returns, but didn\u2019t make it into the film. The figure still made it out though and was pretty cool. <\/p>\n

Then the body got reused, completely inappropriately for the Animated Robin figure. Here was this line with all these great on-model sculpts and then here was Robin with this abs of steel. It wasn\u2019t terrible, but it wasn\u2019t right. They did give it a new head, so that was something. I laugh now that Gentle Giant is about to canonize it again in their 12\u201d Jumbo line. <\/p>\n

And while I\u2019ve kinda of wished that DC Collectibles would spend a little more time trying to homage the old toys, Robin is one figure where that\u2019s not the case. He just needs to finally be straight from the show, like he walked off the small screen. And the best part about the figure? He\u2019s pretty much exactly that. <\/p>\n

The sculpt is terrific, again one of my favorite in the line so far. It\u2019s funny to me that I would enjoy both Robins so much after not caring for the old toys. In this case, it is probably finally getting that animated accurate sculpt, but I also love the head sculpt. It looks great and it somehow looks young and like Dick Grayson is having fun being Robin. That\u2019s always an important aspect to his tenure as Robin for me. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

The articulation is pretty sharp. The figure, like nearly everything after series one, feels sturdy and I feel a lot more comfortable futzing around with him than those first few figures. Robin has ball-joints at the neck, shoulder,s elbows, wrists, & inverted ankles; swivels at the glove, waist, & boots, single-hinge knees, and the h-style hips. I didn\u2019t have any stuck or loose joints on Robin. <\/p>\n

Paint is the one area where my Robin was weak. My LCS didn\u2019t order him, so I had to pick him up online and forego choosing the best paint apps. He\u2019s okay for the most part with sharp lines on his mask and logo, but the yellow paint on his belt is sloppy on one side and then misaligned on the other. It kinda blends out, but it\u2019s definitely not the one I would\u2019ve picked given an opportunity. <\/p>\n

Robin includes a usual complement of accessories for the line. There are seven alternate hands: two fists, two open hands, two gripping hands, and one with the bat-grapple sculpted in. They all pop on and off easily. Also included is the bola-whip, a loose bat grapple, and two capes: one in standard position and one with one shoulder pushed back. I love getting these capes. I wish more figures had them. Finally, there\u2019s the usual turnaround stand. I still love these, I just wish they didn\u2019t take up so much space. <\/p>\n

Overall, this is another great figure for the DCC Animated line. I would\u2019ve liked to have picked one up with sharper yellow paints, but the on-model sculpt is huge and it\u2019s great to finally have it in toy form. The articulation makes him fun to play with and he feels much sturdier than the first wave. I\u2019m a little worn out on the alternate hands I\u2019m having to store (I love the idea in theory though), but he does include some fun stuff like the bola. It could just be that I\u2019m missing the Robin glider though. <\/p>\n
