\"\"<\/a> “That wasn’t so difficult. Now to dig her up again.”<\/strong> \u2013 Multi-Bot, after burying She-Ra in snow, She-Ra: Princess of Snow “Black Snow”. <\/p>\n

I finally took time to open Multi-Bot last night. I\u2019d been putting him off, thinking that I\u2019d have to put together all these wacky builds and take all these pictures, and try to make a Megabeast, and more pictures. And, well, for full disclosure, I didn\u2019t do any of that! So welcome to the worst Multi-Bot review ever. (Sorry, I\u2019ve been reading a lot of Fantastic Four movie reviews and am prone to hyperbole tonight). <\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t have Modulok or Multi-Bot as a kid, so there isn\u2019t a lot of nostalgia involved. I know he appeared in Princess of Power cartoon, looking nothing like the toy, so this classics version is my first exposure to the character. And he\u2019s pretty fun. There\u2019s some nitpicks I\u2019ll get to later, particularly the disparity between what\u2019s above and what\u2019s below the waist, but there is more to like about the figure than anything. <\/p>\n

The sculpting is, of course, top notch as we\u2019ve come to expect from the Four Horsemen. They\u2019ve taken the original and dialed it up like they usually do. My favorite pieces are easily the two torsos \u2013 they\u2019re so 80s tech that it hurts. They look great \u2013 and a nice surprise under the ab torso as even more circuitry and paneling is hidden under there when you lean the figure back. That\u2019s excellent. The two head sculpts are also great upgrades and each almost demands to just be its own character. I need to give these guys names. The arms are a little plain compared to the rest of the figure, particularly the legs that are really dialed up. <\/p>\n

The articulation is standard \u2013 the arms have ball shoulders & elbows and swivels at the biceps and wrist; the legs have ball hips, swivel thighs, hinged knees (one pair has ball knees), and rocker ankles; and the torsos have that aforementioned ab crunch. And then all the interchangeable pieces add articulation. The necks are ball-jointed at the top & bottom, the extended crotch piece has some swivels built in, and then any point you add in with the extra bits creates either a ball-socket or swivel joint depending on how tight the connection is. There\u2019s a ton of combinations there and all can be pretty well articulated. <\/p>\n

The paint work is really my one knock on the figure, but I love the colors. I kinda wish the legs were as bright as everything else; they\u2019re so drab (but its vintage). The bright colors on the arms look great with the silver highlights on the torsos and make a great above the waist package. Unfortunately, the legs just didn\u2019t get any extra love. There\u2019s a little bit of metallic touch-ups on the various legs, but it just needs more. I assume it\u2019s a budget thing, but the legs just come across with a cheap toy aesthetic while the upper body is more what we\u2019re used to with MOTU Classics. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

In addition to the basic build which includes 19 pieces, there are also 9 additional pieces for bigger & better builds. That includes an extra neck, a \u201cgod-piece\u201d that connects to ball-connectors, 5 y-splitting pieces, and two rounded extensions. They\u2019re all solid and a lot of fun to mess around with even if I didn\u2019t do a ton for the review. And all the pieces are interchangeable with Modulok for added fun. I did find that he\u2019s not as fun as Modulok. I\u2019m not sure why \u2013 it could be that he uses most of the parts in his basic form (thanks to the two torsos) or just that Modulok\u2019s more organic look makes building more fun? I\u2019m not sure. For some reason, I just want to take Multi-Bot, split him into two dudes, and send him into my collection. <\/p>\n

The only complaint I had is a usual one for the line \u2013 lack of imagination. We already knew the knees and elbows weren\u2019t going to swap for no real reason, but what bummed me out was that claw hands on the yellow arms aren\u2019t removable\/compatible with any of the previous guy\u2019s arms attachments. It\u2019s not worth knocking the figure because it\u2019s certainly not a requirement, but it\u2019s so dumb. It would be such an easy way to make the figure more fun and have more value and it would\u2019ve cost nothing. The lack of imagination for play astounds me. <\/p>\n

Multi-Bot did include his classic rifle that splits into two parts. It\u2019s a fine, fun piece. Little gummy like Modulok\u2019s before him. <\/p>\n

Overall, this review is kinda quick and dirty due to factors beyond my control, but I really have enjoyed the figure since opening him up. The colors and the solid 80s look are my favorite thing right now. There is some room for improvement, notably the lack of paint in some key areas, and the folks at Mattel just opening their eyes beyond vintage to make a few new, smart connections like being able to use Trap-Jar attachments on Multi-Bot. But it\u2019s still a nice package thanks to that great sculpt and when I\u2019ve got more time I\u2019ll be happy to utilize the building function with this guy. He can be a new figure every night for like three years. That\u2019s an investment! <\/p>\n\n\n\n \t
