<\/a>“Sorry I’m late, I was saving the world. You know how it is.”<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Ant-Man, Marvel’s Ant-Man. (Cause even the movie’s gotta make fun of itself…) <\/p>\n

My wife is not a big POP! Fan. She marvels the same as I do about the scope & breadth of the various lines. She thinks the overall design is cool too. For her, it\u2019s the black, beady eyes that turns her off. As a result, I haven\u2019t bought very many. She\u2019s never forbade me from buying any, our relationship isn\u2019t like that, but if she\u2019s into it, it helps me enjoy it. For example, she\u2019s amazed by Hot Toys and I don\u2019t question my luck. <\/p>\n

I have snagged a few here and there like the Joker-Batman (hypnotic eyes), the Hulkbuster (white eyes), and so when I intended to grab the Ant-Man & Yellow Jacket (lenses over their eyes) \u2013 noticing a theme there?! Then Funko went and sent me the Ant-Man Collector Corps box for June and I got my first taste of Ant-Man stuff and I was hooked. I snagged the two regular edition POPs that weekend. <\/p>\n

The basic Ant-Man & Yellowjacket are available at multiple outlets. I snagged mine at Toys R Us for $10 each. The sculpts on these pops are again really detailed despite by their chibi nature. Ant-Man is the better of the two, with the tech on the helmet contrasting great with the details of the more old school suit below. Nearly all the details appear to be there and you can actually use the POP to see what paint apps Hasbro skipped on their regular figures. The Yellowjacket sculpt is solid too, but the nature of the desigs, lots of panels, and the necessary yellow paint make for a little sloppier figure. He still looks good, but just not as nice as Ant-Man (and if you have YJ, you probably will have Ant-Man). <\/p>\n

The unique aspect to these two is the translucent lenses on their helmets. I actually love this. I\u2019ll talk about the GITD versions here a minute, but these two steal the show for me. Those \u201cbeady little eyes\u201d, as my wife calls them, really come alive under the translucent lenses. It\u2019s a cool look that the others don\u2019t quite match. <\/p>\n

So why didn\u2019t I like the others? I have to give props to Funko for going the GITD route on the exclusives. Ant-Man is available at Hot Topic while Yellowjacket is available on Amazon. I love the idea and I loved them even more when I first got them. The promo pics didn\u2019t really reveal anything about the POPs themselves, the figures were just the regular figures outlined in a diffused color. Ant-Man actually glows in the dark red \u2013 both his lenses and his suit and Yellowjacket does the same in yellow! I love GITD and getting in different colors is even better. But the problem here is that it\u2019s extraordinarily weak. I couldn\u2019t even get a picture after long exposure and had to go the blacklight route to get the pic in the Page 2 Gallery. I think it\u2019s great for Funko to do these types of exclusives, but they need to up their game on the GITD. I want these guys to stare back at me when it\u2019s lights out at my office. And the one that started it all? It\u2019s the Unmasked Ant-Man from the Marvel Collector Corps box. By itself, this one isn\u2019t a huge deal to me. Like the GITD exclusives, he uses the same body, but as, I said on the Mystery Minis, Funko doesn\u2019t really seem to try to get any Paul Rudd specific details on their POPs the way that Minimates or LEGOs do, so the Unmasked Ant-Man is just a cool part of the group. What puts him over is his accessory: Funko\u2019s Smallest Bobblehead! He includes a tiny Ant-Man and I love it. If you mix in the Mystery Mini, you get a great scale change depicting Ant-Man\u2019s size changing abilities. I think it\u2019s the list little guy that got me to buy the big ones and unleashed my obsession. He\u2019s a great piece! <\/p>\n

Finally, there is one more Funk POP! Marvel figure that I haven\u2019t managed to snag, the SDCC Exclusive Blackout Ant-Man, I don\u2019t have any Barnes & Nobles near me and obviously didn\u2019t attend SDCC, so I\u2019ll have to pick that guy up by a different route. It\u2019s basically the normal Ant-Man figure with the Blackout design from the film. I know more about this design, spoiled by the LEGO, but it\u2019s not time to talk about it just yet. <\/p>\n

Overall, Funko did a great job on the Ant-Man POP! Line. I would honestly have a ton more POP! Figures if they just weren\u2019t so addictive. I literally need to stay away \u2013 Funko sent me one in the Collector Corps box and got me to buy five more! The sculpts and paint work on the ones here are all great. I did have some excess glue issues on various figures \u2013 leftover from the lenses be adding, but it cleaned up well for the most part. The only real bummer is the GITD not shining like the sun when the lights go out. I listed where the exclusives are for most of these, so you can track \u2018em down if you want to. Picking them up at various places was actually pretty fun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \t
