I\u2019ve always loved Captain America, but I really love Movie Cap. The movies easily make him my favorite Avenger. Both Cap movies are fantastic and he\u2019s great in Avengers to boot. The characterization is so spot on to me that it immediately reminds me that DC has no chance of getting Superman right \u2013 the folks behind that movie don\u2019t understand Supes like the Marvel folks get Cap. The writing and acting just have him nailed down. He\u2019s probably the character I\u2019m most looking forward to seeing this weekend. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

The only thing I don\u2019t love about Cap through all these movies? The costume. Hawkeye & Black Widow lean spy. Thor can coast on otherworldly opulence. Iron Man\u2019s got it easy. Hulk\u2019s got it easier. But Cap? They\u2019ve really struggled to get the red, white, & blue on screen. The \u201cGolden Age\u201d costume was okay, but it was really bulky and stuck out in the fight scenes (the Rescue Outfit rocked though). The modern Avengers costume is\u2026 just best not talked about. I do love the Stealth suit from Cap2, but I still needed that classic fix. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

With Age of Ultron, I think they have it. The new iteration really just takes that winning stealth suit design and puts some of the colors back into it. It looks great in the trailers. If I can swing the Hot Toy\u2026 well, I\u2019ll swing it and I\u2019ve already snatched up the Marvel Legend (a little too quickly actually, but we\u2019ll get to that). <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

The figure is mostly a reuse of the Stealth Strike suit released in the Mandroid wave. It doesn\u2019t matter, because it works. The only piece Hasbro needed to readdress was the torso and they did that by giving it an all-new sculpt. Again, I don\u2019t know how accurate that makes the gloves or the boots, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll get that hung up on noticing if there is a minor inaccuracy after I\u2019ve seen the film. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

The only thing on the sculpt I don\u2019t like is the head. Now that we\u2019ve got most of the Avengers figures looking like their on-screen counterparts, I was hoping for Cap to get an update. Tony\u2019s open mask head could be better, but it does look like him. Black Widow & Hawkeye are spot on. The new Hulk is good and Thor is recognizable. But Cap? I\u2019m just not seeing it. Masked or unmasked. And, yes, these are the exact same heads from the Stealth versions, so it\u2019s really just unfortunate they didn\u2019t prioritize better noggins. The articulation is carried over from that Stealth suit and it\u2019s still working great. He\u2019s got ball-joints at the neck, shoulders, wrists, hips, and inverted ankles; swivels at the biceps, waist, thighs, & calves; double-hinges at the knees & elbows, and the ab crunch. This is pretty much everything I want on a figure and I\u2019m able to get a ton of great poses and photos of him.

The paintwork was mostly sharp \u2013 though in my haste to snag him, I failed to notice the big paint chip on his star (I kinda want to paint it white anyway). The rest of him is really well done. Well, except the back of course. Hasbro being cheap his struck again with the near complete removal of paint on the back side of the figure. That\u2019s just crappy. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

Cap was also regifted many of the accessories that came with the Stealth figure. There is the Thanos leg of course and the new shield in traditional colors, but the cool thing was that we also get those great multiple hands again, the pointing finger and and the saluting hand in addition to the two fists. I love this shield must more than the first Avengers one. It\u2019s a much better size and it has static grips for the arm instead of that adjustable mess. I do miss being able to put it on his back, but he looks great holding it anyway. <\/p>\n

Overall, I\u2019m writing this with almost no sleep, so my exuberance prolly isn\u2019t broadcasting as well as I want it to, but I love this figure. The new costume is the best yet and the figure captures the details well despite the heavy reuse. If the back of the figure were painted better and the head sculpt made a more solid attempt to look like Chris Evans, this might be a near perfect figure! <\/p>\n
