The Animated Series 6″ Catwoman Review"},"content":{"rendered":"

<\/a> I was hoping to have this review sooner, but the most annoying thing about DC Collectibles cropped up: availability. I know it should be super easy \u2013 just order it from your LCS and go! But, truth is, I never want to pre-order the damn things because the shops tend to expect you to buy it regardless of quality control. <\/p>\n

So, that turns DCC into\u2026 well, just like everything else. You go to the shop, see if it\u2019s there and hope you get lucky. It shouldn\u2019t be as annoying as it is, but between knowing the date it will show up and not knowing if it will or if someone will beat ya, it still is. I got lucky with Batman. Catwoman, not so much. So I bit the bullet, picked up a Catwoman online, and here we go\u2026 <\/p>\n

I talked in my Batman review about how this line really feels like two lines squashed together. A BTAS line and a TNBA line. And if I were only going to get one, it would probably be BTAS. I love a few TNBA designs, but the original has a tighter grip on my heart. And yet, I didn\u2019t feel the same glee over Catwoman that I did when I picked up Batman two weeks ago. I\u2019ll try to pinpoint why as we go, but I think it\u2019s just a lot of little things. <\/p>\n

The sculpt is a pretty faithful recreation of the original design, at least below the neck. It\u2019s not as good overall as Batman \u2013 the legs seems a little thin and the neck a little too long, but the costume details are there (it\u2019s real tough!) and I like the overall figure\u2019s silhouette. It\u2019s good. The head though? I like it, but it just doesn\u2019t quite seem right. It could be a little too round. It could be that it looks a little too manga instead of animated. Or, heck, it could just be that she\u2019s not smiling. I always think of this version of Catwoman with a smile. The mouth is slightly open \u2013 it\u2019s hard to tell \u2013 and I\u2019 like that, but there\u2019s still just something not quite right. She\u2019s just not quite as good as Batman. <\/p>\n

The articulation is a similar story. There is a lot of good articulation here. There are ball-joints at the neck, shoulders, elbows, and wrists; the h-hinges at the hips, hinged knees, boot swivels, and a couple funky joints at the ankles that work like a ball-joint too. Most of these articulation points are good (they feel fragile, but I haven\u2019t had any breaks on either figure). The upper arms feel limited \u2013 the elbows don\u2019t have as much range as Batman\u2019s and that makes me really want a bicep swivel for some added movement. I also found myself missing some waist articulation when I was trying to get a good whip pose. <\/p>\n

The paintwork on my Catwoman was fairly nice. The paint on the face was clean and most of the few paint lines are sharp. The belt was really the only area on my figure that was fuzzy. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Catwoman still shined in the accessory department. She wasn\u2019t as loaded as Batman, but she\u2019s got some goods. There\u2019s the classic whip, a camera and necklace taken directly from The Animated Series, three sets of hands (relaxed, claws, and gripping). And Isis \u2013 who features six points of articulation. Isis is a pretty cool addition even if the eyes are a little sloppy on mine. I think I\u2019m most partial to the whip \u2013 it is her classic accessory, but it\u2019s also rubbery which is always just silly & neat. <\/p>\n

I do appreciate the cartoon prop accessories too though. And I try not to delve in to the \u201cCoulda shoulda\u201d\u2019s too much, I do have to say I really would\u2019ve liked an alternate head here. It could just be that I find the current head a little lacking, but an unmasked Selina head would\u2019ve been awesome. Maybe DCC can refresh the figure that way at some point (And hopefully have the new head sit lower on the neck). <\/p>\n

Finally, Catwoman included the cool turnaround art stand. It\u2019s not quite the same as Batman\u2019s because of the apparatus that holds her up. It\u2019s much more complicated and a little too bulky. I love these stands and I appreciate that the designs just don\u2019t stand all that well on their own, but I kinda hate the doll stand idea. That\u2019s easily my least favorite thing about the line so far, they really do need their stands and that just takes up a lot of space. <\/p>\n

Overall, I\u2019m still happy with the Catwoman. I\u2019m not as thrilled with her as Batman, but she\u2019s still good. The sculpt is nice, though I\u2019d like the head to be a little better and the added articulation isn\u2019t quite as cool as Batman, but it\u2019s still fun to have a Catwoman that\u2019s not in a mid-step whipping pose (even if I still put her in it!). The accessories are a ton of fun and this is still proving to be a really fun line to collect. After DCUC, I wasn\u2019t sure if I\u2019d ever be all-in on a DC line again, but this one is getting to me. <\/p>\n
