I guess I shouldn’t count my chickens – I’m just now sitting down to write the review, but as we’ve gotten knee deep in this whole ‘having a kid’ business, three reviews a week hasn’t happened as often as it should! Leave it to She-Ra Week to get the job done. Speaking of, who wants to keep the site pink?

Entrapta required a bit of research on my part. I’ve not seen any of the four Princess of Power episodes in which she appeared. There’s not a ton to read up on, but it’s interesting to find that her role in the cartoon revolved more around her inventor status than her magic her (think Inhumans Medusa). That’s not usually the case for a gimmicky MOTU character. Entrapta was originally just Catra’s sidekick when introduced in the second season, but there are some subtle clues that Hordak favored her. It’d be interesting to see that expanded on in any new fiction.

The other interesting tidbit when researching at Entrapta was how unique this figure is in terms of her look. It pulls from everything and still kinda does its own thing. Entrapta’s vintage figure reused Castaspella’s parts and featured a ton of gold vac-metal over most of her body. In the cartoon, those gold hues were exchanged for lavender. And it’s only in the style guide that we find her bifurcated skirt.

In the end, the style guide largely won out though the bodice was a more cartoonlike purple and elements of the figure, that shared torso with the vintage Castaspella are present as well. The cool thing about that on this figure is that the torso is not shared. The 4H added one detail that had been missing from all previous Entrapta’s – a Horde symbol. It’s a little off, featuring only the skull and not the batwings, but it helps distinguish her as a villain – particularly because her colors lend her to a heroic look. It also was a nice touch because it gave Entrapta another unique piece.

In terms of new pieces, Entrapta comes out pretty well. She has her unique two-piece dress, new upper legs for a new style of thigh high boot, and her noggin with its two oversized pigtails. The new clothing pieces are all well done and look sharp on the figure. She’s up there with Castaspella and Flutterina as one of my favorite POP Classics figures.

And a lot of that is due to how well executed her head sculpt and hair gimmick is done. She’s clearly a Treadaway sculpt, but with a great evil tinge to the sculpt. It’s also unpainted – I know the painted faces can look better sometimes, but I have too many with a flaw, scratch, or chip in the paint. The skintone plastic and painted on details works great here. It also helps that the painted hair on the head sculpt so closely matches the two pigtails. And those pigtails? They’re fantastically done. The sculpt is sharp, the ball-joints work great, and the figure is remarkably balanced despite having those two hunks of plastic hanging off the back of her head. Those ball-joints come in particularly handy. The hair and built-in curves give some great range of motion and a ton of ways to pose the figure. Continue to Page 2…

The articulation is standard for the 2.0 POP buck. The arms work well with ball-jointed shoulders, swivel biceps & wrists, and the hinged elbows. The legs do suffer for the lack of a boot swivel, but the thigh swivel knee hinges, and rocker ankles keep most of the motion. The waist swivel present and the neck is ball-jointed, but… well, that’s the weakness of the figure, at least mine. The neck articulation has no strength to withstand the weight of the hair. You can pose the hair and balance it to get the neck angle you want, but it’s a fidgety process. The good news is that the leg articulation is solid enough for some great poses even with the weight of the hair.

I think the bright colors on all these POP figures makes the paint a little more crucial and luckily Entrapta lives up to that. The hair looks great cast in pink and the ribbons are sharp. The aforementioned face is done particularly well. And the little details work great from there on down. The gold looks sharp and while I’d rather have the old shiny vac-metal, the color chosen here looks good with the overall color scheme.

Entrapta included two accessories. The standard shield in purple (snooooze…) and befitting her status as a member of the Horde a cro- no, wait, no crossbow, you say? Oh. Well, she does comes with a great Filmation relic accessory, the Shaping Staff used by Evil-Lyn. I love that we got it and it looks great with the figure, but it kinda doesn’t belong to her and I know it. Entrapta waited twenty-eight years to get the badge of a Horde symbol. Now it looks like it’ll be quite a few more before she gets her crossbow.

Overall, this Club Etheria has worked our really well so far. Double Trouble’s thumb head will go down as one of the more unfortunate 2014 items, but I’m just going to not think about her and focus on how awesome Flutterina is, and when you pair her with Razz & Entrapta as I have this week, POP is on a roll. Yeah, I’d like boot cuts, I wish Entrapta’s neck artic was tighter, and I definitely feel like “dude, where’s my crossbow”, but the trio reviewed this week has been amazing. And it’s a good time for have high hopes for POP Classics. We’ve got Sweet Bee, Spinnerella, Mermista, NA She-Ra, & Light Hope in the immediate pipeline. It’s a good time to be a POP fan!

Recent MOTU Classics Reviews:

For all our MOTU reviews, check out our
MOTU Classics Collector’s Guide.

[7,1026,34,10
78,20,16,2558,586,469
MOTUClassics.Com Loo-Kee &
