<\/a> I have never been to so many Walgreens so often! I gotta say \u2013 I\u2019ve become converted to an \u201conline\u201d collector. I used to like going out toy shopping. Hitting the stores. Knowing what days trucks arrived. I swear there were times I could smell what I was looking for from the parking lot. It was awesome. Now? Well, getting boxes in the mail is pretty fun. <\/p>\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong. I am ecstatic to see a retailer like Walgreens \u2013 there are six within 20 miles of my house \u2013 get in on the exclusive figure action. And to do wish such a splash \u2013 the better of two Tyrion figures, the Prototype Boba Fett in 6\u201d form, and now a cancelled Marvel Legends figure: Agent Venom. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m not entirely certain why I wanted this figure so much when I first saw it. I am a fan of the Symbiote Costume, moreso than Venom himself (when I do enjoy Venom, it\u2019s usually pre-tongue). I have not read a single issue of this current Venom, now Flash Thompson in the symbiote and working as a government agent. But the design calls to me. Maybe it\u2019s just that it\u2019s a tactical version of the classic symbiote suit. And, of course, there\u2019s no tongue. <\/p>\n

Even better is than the idea is the figure itself. He looks fantastic. His origins as a cancelled regular figure probably saved him from more parts reuse then deserving of a retailer exclusive and the figure is better for it. There is some reuse, but a lot of the figure is new: the boots and kneepads, the gloves, and the armor\/shoulderpads for sure. The belt and head also appear to be new, but I\u2019m not as up on every single ML part. The main trunk of the body is reused, but it\u2019s well dressed under al the new bits. <\/p>\n

That base ensures most of the great ML articulation is present on Venom here as well. There are ball-joints at the neck, shoulders, hips, and inverted ankles; swivels we the biceps, forearms, waist, & thighs; double-hinges at the elbows & knees, and the ab crunch. The only thing missing is any type of wrist articulation. The swivels are present in the forearms, but any gun-totin\u2019 figure could use some hinges in the wrists, so the figure does seem lacking in that one regard. The included articulation all works well and the bulk of the armor and gear hardly confines the figure from deep poses. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

The paintwork on Venom is pretty straightforward, but it was still tough to find a well painted one from my choices at the Walgreens I visited. Like any Venom it\u2019s all about how thick and even the white paint is on the black-molded figure. I focused on getting good outlines on the eyes, allowing for the rough texture of the armor to excuse some issues with the armor. I think I ended up with a relatively nice figure and I couldn\u2019t be happier that there are no lousy blue highlights on the figure! <\/p>\n

Venom included five accessories, a set of tentacles and four guns. The tentacles plug into his back and are attached in the package, but are thankfully removable. They\u2019re cool if you like them, but I\u2019m not a fan. They do have one handy feature though \u2013 they can hold the extra weapons. It\u2019s actually kinda neat, particularly since there are no other holsters for the gear (strangely, the one holder has a molded gun in it). I\u2019m still not going to use it. I\u2019ve opted to pop the two pistols into his regular ol\u2019 hands and have that be that. <\/p>\n

Overall, this figure is full of win. He\u2019s a figure rescued from cancellation. He represent a new avenue for US-based collectors to snag some good figures. He\u2019s a great and current variant of a classic character. And he\u2019s well executed with a great sculpt & great articulation. The paint could be a little better, but I\u2019ll take it. The only thing not to like? Well, I listed that in the wins. While he represents a new retailer doing exclusives \u2013 I\u2019m just feeling too old for toy hunting having been out incessantly looking for this and my Boba Fett. It\u2019s a bummer. But I don\u2019t want Walgreens to stop, not by any means. I\u2019m excited to see what they have next. <\/p>\n
