While I do love the NES figures, my absolute favorite NECA product is their Kenner inspired additions to the Predator line.\u00a0 With a bit of new tooling and paint, they\u2019ve been able to update some of the bizarre 90\u2019s toys into a more realistic look without losing the original feel that made those figures so fun.<\/p>\n

\"nspd1\"<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure how many new pieces were used to make the figure, but the folks at NECA did decide to go with the Super Predator body type.\u00a0 This makes the figure taller and lankier than his normal sized brethren.\u00a0 But even with the slimmed down torso, he still comes across as more imposing.<\/p>\n

\"nspd2\"<\/p>\n

I really love Nightstorm\u2019s head sculpt.\u00a0 With his mandibles splayed out and mouth open, he looks like he\u2019s screaming in rage.\u00a0 The squinted eyes just add even more to his angry look.\u00a0\u00a0 But it\u2019s how the head interacts with the helmet that really impressed me.\u00a0 NECA designed the helmet with two openings, one on either side of the mouth piece.\u00a0 This allows the mask to fit around the mandibles while still covering the mouth.<\/p>\n

\"nspd3\"<\/p>\n

The copper looking mask has a definite stag beetle feel with those to large horns on top.\u00a0 While the outside has some really great sculpted panel work, the inside is where the crazy amount of detail can be found.\u00a0 All these interestingly sculpted techno bits make Iron Man\u2019s helmet display look primitive.\u00a0 They also demonstrate just how much love went into the making of this figure.<\/p>\n

\"nspd4\"<\/p>\n

This amount of sculpt is also found in the rest of his armor.\u00a0 The upper chest has a neat shoulder pads and high collar look.\u00a0 It even comes down and curves around his back for more protection.\u00a0 His wrist blades also took inspiration from the Kenner figure.\u00a0 Proportionally they\u2019re much larger, but they have this great toy-like exaggerated quality.\u00a0 Surprisingly, these two huge blades can even extend just a little bit.\u00a0 Nightstorm is clearly a badass, and they wanted his weapons to spell it out as clear as possible.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

This is also pretty evident in his hunting staff, which has a human skull and spine attached to it.\u00a0 I know Preds like to keep trophies, but I find it really intriguing that Nightstorm chose to attach one of them to his weapon.\u00a0 The fact that he only hunts other Predators makes it even more interesting.\u00a0 Perhaps this human was a truly worthy opponent.<\/p>\n

\"nspd5\"<\/p>\n

Nightstorm\u2019s paint job is also nice.\u00a0 The body has both light and dark blues that nicely complement each other.\u00a0 His skin also has a bit of a gloss, making him look sweaty or wet.\u00a0 His armor and weapons are molded in copper-like color with some nice greenish gray detail work that makes it look tarnished.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s got decent articulation, but the majority of it is in his upper body.\u00a0 The head, wrists and ankles are ball joints.\u00a0 His shoulders, elbows and knees are swivel\/hinges.\u00a0 The waist and thighs have swivel joints, while the hips are swivels cut into a \u201cV\u201d shape.\u00a0 The V-crotch and restricted ankles hurt his poseability more than anything else.<\/p>\n

\"nspd7\"<\/p>\n

Like I said at the beginning, this is my favorite figure in the wave.\u00a0 His huge size, snarling mouth and brutal weapons give him a great intimidating look.\u00a0 They also give the figure a great \u201ctoy\u201d feel,\u00a0 just like all the imaginative designs that filled our childhood with some really fun and memorable figures.<\/p>\n
