DC Classics Ra\u2019s Al Ghul"},"content":{"rendered":"

It\u2019s been a while since I\u2019ve reviewed a DC figure from Mattel. \u00a0It\u2019s kind of slim pickings with the DC Classics line coming to an end.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got a few more figures to go, but there is only a couple more I\u2019m really interested in.\u00a0 We\u2019re dealing with a pretty limited budget at this point, and it seems like it\u2019s starting to take its toll on the figures themselves.<\/p>\n

Ra\u2019s al Ghul is one of those figures I\u2019ve been waiting get in DC Classics style. \u00a0Like most people, I\u2019m always for adding more villains onto my Batman Rogues shelf.\u00a0 Unfortunately I\u2019m just not as happy with this figure as I hoped to be.\u00a0 There\u2019s no one big reason why I\u2019m dissatisfied.\u00a0 It\u2019s more like the culmination of a bunch of small nitpicks.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll start with the sculpt.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got a very basic figure here.\u00a0 Ra\u2019s has a new head and cape, while the rest of figure uses the basic suit buck.\u00a0 Ra\u2019s is a pretty eccentric character.\u00a0 The suit body doesn\u2019t look bad on him, but it does cut down on extreme poses and gestures.\u00a0 He\u2019s definitely not going to be winning any swordfights with Batman.\u00a0 Guess I\u2019ll have to settle with him just bossing other figures around.<\/p>\n

With the reuse of so many pieces, it really falls on the headsculpt to make or break a lot of DCUC figures.\u00a0 Ra\u2019s headsculpt just doesn\u2019t grab me really.\u00a0 He\u2019s got this weird expression that\u2019s a mix of unhappy and bored, which don\u2019t really fit together.\u00a0 I know a lot of sculpts try to keep it neutral, allowing for various posing scenarios.\u00a0 But Ra\u2019s is a bit crazy, especially after climbing out of one of his pits.\u00a0 I think it would have been acceptable to get a little of that emotion in this figure.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Paint job is also pretty basic.\u00a0 The suit has been molded in a dark green, with the cape getting a lighter version of the color.\u00a0 There is some nice shading that\u2019s been done to add a little depth to both.\u00a0 Unfortunately my figure suffered a bit when it came to the quality control on his face.\u00a0 There are a few little black spots where the paint didn\u2019t cover.\u00a0 It\u2019s not terrible, but it\u2019s definitely noticeable.\u00a0 One thing I would like to have seen added was a little white on his temples.\u00a0 I always think of the character as having a bit of gray.<\/p>\n

Ra\u2019s comes with one accessory, a freakin huge scimitar.\u00a0 The sword itself has a nice sculpt and has been painted with a metallic silver and gold.\u00a0 It\u2019s always nice to get an accessory, especially in a line that isn\u2019t known for them.\u00a0 The sword just seems a little out of place on a figure that looks like he\u2019s on his way to a board meeting.<\/p>\n

All around I feel pretty meh about this figure.\u00a0 He looks decent and will fit in nicely with the rest of the shelf, but he just doesn\u2019t grab me.\u00a0 There are plenty of figures in this line that have done an amazing job with just a new head sculpt and paint job.\u00a0 Ra\u2019s isn\u2019t one of them (at least not for me\u2026).\u00a0 And now I also have the strong urge to buy a Talia figure.<\/p>\n
