For me, Shokoti was the most interesting one-off villain that the Filmation series spawned.\u00a0 Not only was she a hot blue-skinned vampire queen, but her mysterious history and powers added an attention-grabbing touch of darkness (no pun intended) to the series.\u00a0 Shokoti definitely became one of my earliest exposures to horror.<\/p>\n

As I grew older and my experiences of different writers expanded, I realized that those Filmation writers were crafting a kid-friendly version of the Lovecraftian mythos. \u00a0There was the cultist Masque, the evil witch Shokoti who could never truly die in her own house, and the great sleeping beast who would fill the world with living darkness if she could wake him with a proper sacrifice.\u00a0 Pretty sinister stuff, even in a watered down form.<\/p>\n

So I have to hand it to the Four Horsemen again, because Shokoti looks pretty damned perfect.\u00a0 As a whole, she\u2019s a perfect adaptation of the Filmation cartoon and the Classics line.\u00a0 She\u2019s got the standard female buck with Adora\u2019s boots and Octavia\u2019s gloves.\u00a0 Her costume has an entirely new bodice and skirt piece.\u00a0 The top is accurate but plain, while the lower piece has a belt and ornamental skull sculpted onto it.<\/p>\n

One of my favorite parts of her costume is the cape\/necklace piece.\u00a0 Before getting the figure I never noticed those little shoulder pads on her costume.\u00a0 Like her belt, those shoulder pads and the attached necklace adds a subtle yet unique touch to a mostly plain costume design.<\/p>\n

But the real eye candy on this figure is Shokoti\u2019s head sculpt.\u00a0 The 4H did a wonderful job of giving her a classically beautiful look.\u00a0 Of course it probably helps that her hair is framed by her horned headdress and a nicely molded poof of hair.\u00a0 I can\u2019t help but wonder how the face would look with her mouth slightly opened and exposing her fangs. Now with all the gushy parts out of the way, I do want to go back and mention one thing that I do hate about the sculpt, her hands.\u00a0 To fit with the gloved look, Mattel went with standard female holding hands.\u00a0 I\u2019m fine with this for one hand, because she should be able to hold an accessory.\u00a0 But it would have been much more appropriate to use an open spellcasting hand, similar to a handful of sorceresses that we\u2019ve already seen.\u00a0 It\u2019s more appropriate for Shokoti to be wielding dark magic rather than a sword, and that hand would have gone a long way in improving her poses.<\/p>\n

Paint wise the figure looks pretty good.\u00a0 Her design isn\u2019t very complex, so there\u2019s not too much to get wrong.\u00a0 I did have a little slop of gold in a couple of places, but it\u2019s no big deal.\u00a0 One thing that did annoy me is the glossy black smudges that ended up on her cape.\u00a0 It\u2019s just a simple example of not waiting until the paint dries before the two surfaces were combined.\u00a0 A small piece of tissue paper would prevent these issues.\u00a0 It\u2019s something a lot of Japanese figures do, and it works wonders.<\/p>\n

Shokoti comes with a surprising accessory, a little Darkling tentacle beast that served her in the Filmation episode.\u00a0 If there\u2019s any doubt that she was Lovecraft inspired, this little abomination is the proof.\u00a0 This horrible shrieking creature has one large eye on a stalk, multiple tendril arms, and three disturbingly lipped mouths around the mass of its body.\u00a0 He really makes a great addition to her figure.\u00a0 I only wish she had more of them, or maybe a stand for the one she did get.<\/p>\n

All around I\u2019m pretty happy with Shokoti\u2019s figure.\u00a0 The lack of a spellcaster hand keeps me from calling her perfect, but she\u2019s damned close.\u00a0 She may not be as fun as figures like Icer and Batros, but Shokoti\u2019s one of the more intriguing elements to the MOTU mythos and the line wouldn\u2019t have been complete without her.<\/p>\n
