Rangers Red Ranger Review"},"content":{"rendered":"

<\/a> Well, friends. I\u2019ve waited long enough. I was going to be good. I was going to let Vault in on the Mighty Morpin Power Rangers action. He loves his imports. He loves MMPR. He loves Red Rangers\u2026 but I can wait no more. We\u2019ve got a whole box of Mattel goodies coming in later this week (& we kinda haven\u2019t finished the last box yet\u2026), so I wanted to get this review out there before we descend into MattyLand! <\/p>\n

This review will be a fair bit lighter than my previous review on the Green Ranger<\/a>, because most everything you can say about the figure can be said here. Really, I could almost just substitute the word red for green and phone this one in. But there are a few differences, of course, so hopefully you\u2019ll permit me a few paragraphs before you go running off into the gallery at the end. <\/p>\n

<\/center><\/p>\n

The Red Ranger, or Tyranno Ranger if you prefer (but let\u2019s call him Jason!), carries special significance as the leader of the group. I haven\u2019t watched Power Rangers as faithfully as Vault \u2013 my job is cushy, but not Saturday Morning off cushy, but I know that the Red Ranger has taken on a mystique all his own over the years. You can see it in the popularity levels, the shows themselves, and even in the Figuarts releases. The Red Ranger is almost always the widest released and also has the most versions available. You\u2019ll see by the end of the review, that that\u2019s already gotten me into a little bit of trouble\u2026 <\/p>\n

Before I start on the figure, I do want to give another special shout out the North American packaging. As with the Green Ranger, an entirely new mock-up has been done for the NA release and it looks fantastic. I enjoy buying imports, but it\u2019s a pleasure to not have to check with friends to see what the box and instructions say on these two releases! <\/p>\n

The figure itself is the basic Figuarts design with the proper sculpts on the new pieces to get this particular era of Power Rangers correct. While he and Tommy do share the same basic costume, Jason still needed a handful of unique parts thanks to small details. And he got all of them. On other lines, you might see these details handled by paint, but not here. Jason has unique boot tops & forearms to get those areas correct and also has regular biceps since Tommy\u2019s gold bands were sculpted on for his release. The chest piece underneath is presumably the same, but Tommy\u2019s armor is a harder plastic, so I haven\u2019t tried to remove it. <\/p>\n

All that is topped off by the helmet which again does a great job on accuracy. The helmet features sharp details and the high gloss paint really comes through to make the helmet look like it\u2019s made of a different material than the rest of the costume. Honestly, the paints throughout really sell the figure as they\u2019re crisp from top to bottom. <\/p>\n

As I said last time, while the sculpt is impressive on its own, it\u2019s the articulation that really lets this little guy shine. The figure features ball-joints at both the top and bottom of the neck, wrists, hips, and ankles, hinged toes, double-hinged knees & elbows, thigh swivels (similar to MOTU figures), two well-ranged torso joints at the mid-torso and waist, and then the shoulder & hips feature ball-joints that are on the end of a double hinged bar. These four points really give the figure fantastic movement, though they can open up some ugly areas in the sculpt \u2013 Bandai combats this in the shoulders with a \u201cfloating\u201d piece that can be moved around that little bar and keep the aesthetics of the figure. I will again clamor for that missing bicep swivel though because it\u2019s just what I do when it\u2019s not there. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

In terms of accessories there are the usual compliment of hands, ten total for Jason, ranging from closed fits to slightly open hands with three closed grips in between, each matching up to a particular accessory. The accessories on this one blew me away. I thought Tommy did well coming with the sword and dagger, but Jason showed him coming up with a whopping six different weapons! <\/p>\n

Most of the accessories represent Jason\u2019s gear in various stages. There is both the Ranger Stick & its Ranger Sword mode (the stick also fits in that handy dandy holster on the figure\u2019s side). There\u2019s also the Blade Blaster & Thunder Slinger along with their combined mode, the Ranger Slinger. Finally, there is the Power Sword! It doesn\u2019t feature any alternate versions or combined mode, but it\u2019s a sweet piece in its own right. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately, I did break the Ranger Slinger during the shoot. My one complaint on imports is that they aren\u2019t as always sturdy as our domestic toys. These figures feel on par, which is great but made me a little careless with the accessories and I cleaned snapped off a part of the Ranger Slinger. Oops. I know we hate the \u201ctoo\u201d gummy accessories MLs or Classics tend to have, but the other extreme is annoying as well. <\/p>\n

As I said in my Green Ranger review, these figures are just about everything you\u2019ve been waiting for in terms of finally getting hyper-articulated, on model Power Rangers! The only reservation I have left is the scale. I just wish these guys were in twelfth scale and were more compatible with my Classics & Legends. I just don\u2019t have anything that really fits with them. <\/p>\n

But, hey, you can always buy more Figuarts, right? I\u2019ve accidentally stumbled up to six. And once you get a crew going, the scale concerns kinda settle down. I think once most of us have our happy little set of six MMPR figures (or seven if you just don\u2019t feel right getting the Green Ranger & not the White Ranger), we\u2019ll be a bunch of satisfied fans. Well, if you count clamoring for the villains as satisfied\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n \t
