Octavia is one of those figures that I didn\u2019t know I wanted until after I got it.\u00a0 When she was first announced I was glad to see the Horde roster grow with a new female member, and she also filled in another Filmation slot.\u00a0 But for some reason I wasn\u2019t overly impressed with the photos that made their way back from the various conventions.<\/p>\n
I think it may have had something to do with her colors.\u00a0 As I found out during my own photo shoot, her Martian-like green skin and mustard colored tunic were a bit difficult to capture accurately in a picture.\u00a0 Ironically, these color combinations were the first things I liked about the figure when I got her out of the package. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Aside from Buzz-Off and a few pieces of armor or accessories, there isn\u2019t a lot of yellow on the MOTU shelf. \u00a0Octavia\u2019s color also has a hint of orange to it, making it even more distinct when combined with her green skin.<\/p>\n I was also really happy with the uniquely sculpted pieces of her figure.\u00a0 Her new Horde boots and tunic allow her to stand out from Adora and Catra (although I do wish Catra had these boots now\u2026).\u00a0 But the clothing is still generic enough to be used again on other female Horde members.<\/p>\n Of course, what really makes her unique are the four large tentacles that plug into her back.\u00a0 While the pieces aren\u2019t bendable, they do all have a unique sculpt.\u00a0 They could have used a bit more variety though.\u00a0 Three of them are in an outstretched pose, while one is kind of curved around like it\u2019s holding or grasping at something.<\/p>\n I was also impressed with Octavia\u2019s head sculpt.\u00a0 There\u2019s just the slightest expression on her face that seems to change her personality depending on the angle.\u00a0 I love when figures have this.\u00a0 It allows for so much more emotion in a pose.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n Unfortunately this new head sculpt is also the cause of the figure\u2019s biggest problem.\u00a0 The hair was sculpted to lie behind, but they still didn\u2019t allow for enough space.\u00a0 So each tentacle, which is connected to the figure with a swivel\/hinge, is mostly limited swiveling side to side instead of forward and back.\u00a0 Her hair also affects the head\u2019s articulation, keeping almost all of her poses in a downward gaze.\u00a0 This is a disappointing outcome for a figure that should have been able to pull of some fantastic dynamic poses.<\/p>\n Aside from her tentacles, Octavia comes with five other accessories.\u00a0 First are her four short swords with golden Horde symbols on the hilt.\u00a0 (Oddly, even though they’re all the same mold, one of mine turned out rounded, like an old LEGO sword.)\u00a0 They fit in her hands just like any other weapon, but the guard on each blade also allows for her tentacles to hold them.\u00a0 It definitely looks cool when she\u2019s standing there and brandishing all of her weapons, but this is another instance where dynamic posing would have added even more.<\/p>\n Her last accessory is a female-sized Horde styled crossbow.\u00a0 This version of the bow is armed with a cute cuttlefish\/Cthulhu creature.\u00a0 I really like that each Horde member has their own unique adaptation of the standard weapon.<\/p>\n![\"DSC01155\"](\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/DSC01155.jpg\")
