\"\"<\/a>I\u2019m really excited about the upcoming Pacific Rim.\u00a0 I\u2019m a fan of Guillermo del Toro\u2019s work, and it\u2019s nice to see a monster vs. robot movie that isn\u2019t anime.<\/p>\n

I try to stay away from spoilers when I\u2019m really looking forward to a movie.\u00a0 So this review isn\u2019t going to cover any of Gipsy Danger\u2019s background.\u00a0 Instead, this review will focus only on the toy and its qualities.<\/p>\n

\"gdgr1\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gipsy Danger\u2019s design is interesting, but pretty basic.\u00a0 His humanoid shape and bulky chest\/shoulder armor conjures up the image of a robotic football player, which seems pretty appropriate for America\u2019s defender.<\/p>\n

\"gdgr2\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Hands down, this figure\u2019s best feature is his sculpt.\u00a0 The armor plates are surrounded by little details like hydraulics, gears, and exhaust ports.\u00a0 There\u2019s even a robotic spine running down his back.\u00a0 I particularly like that giant turbine in his chest.\u00a0 The sculpting looks so good that it\u2019s easy to mistake certain segments as articulated when they\u2019re not.<\/p>\n

This is also a pretty tall figure, clocking in at just a hair over seven inches.\u00a0 This makes him a little bit bigger than most of Bandai\u2019s SH MonsterArts line, but thankfully not so much that he looks terrible posed with them.\u00a0 I really was hoping my kaiju and giant robots could mingle with each other on the shelves, and so far they look pretty nice together.<\/p>\n

\"gdgr3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Paint jobs on the Pacific Rim figures are going to vary widely, even among the same character.\u00a0 Gipsy has a grayish blue base coat covering most of his figure, with more mechanical parts being highlighter in gunmetal gray.\u00a0 There are red and white tampos in various places, which may not match up perfectly sometimes. There\u2019s also some paint slop in some of the smaller areas, like his visor.\u00a0 But the biggest reason for the variances is that the figure has been given a wash to look dirty.\u00a0 The wear and tear looks fantastic on the armor, but unfortunately it just makes some of the smaller highlights look sloppy.<\/p>\n

\"gdgr5\"<\/a><\/p>\n

My biggest issue with this figure is his articulation.\u00a0 He\u2019s got a ball jointed head, shoulders, wrists, torso, and ankles.\u00a0 His elbows, knees, and heels (yeah, I said heel) are hinges, while his hips are swivel\/hinges.\u00a0 It\u2019s a decent amount of articulation, but a lot of it is hampered by his armor or sculpt. \u00a0I\u2019m particularly annoyed by the elbows and knees, which can\u2019t even move a full ninety degrees.\u00a0 He looks good standing around, but dynamic poses are more difficult to pull off.<\/p>\n

\"gdgr6\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gipsy has no accessories.\u00a0 I don\u2019t really mind because this is a fifteen dollar figure with an entirely new sculpt.\u00a0 Weapons would be nice, but they\u2019re not a must.\u00a0 If anything, a pair of extra hands would have been best.\u00a0 Gipsy\u2019s are in fists, but the figure on the back of the package has open hands and it would have been cool to swap them out.<\/p>\n

\"gdgr7\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gipsy Danger isn\u2019t a perfect figure, but he\u2019s far from terrible.\u00a0 Make sure to pay attention to the paint apps, especially if you\u2019re going for a cleaner look.\u00a0 Also, don\u2019t expect too much from the articulation.\u00a0 But if you\u2019re just looking for a nicely detailed and affordable Gipsy to display on the shelf, then you\u2019ll definitely want to give this figure a shot.<\/p>\n
