be doing an American inspired SH MonsterArts figure, I was all but certain that it would be a figure of Zilla, our own version of Godzilla.\u00a0 So imagine my pleasant surprise when they revealed King Kong from Peter Jackson\u2019s 2005 interpretation.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>King Kong and Godzilla probably couldn\u2019t be more different from each other.\u00a0 One is a giant rampaging reptile that can never truly be killed or defeated, while the other is a larger than life mammal that may cause a bit of destruction but is (spoiler alert) always conquered and killed in the end.\u00a0 Even so, these two are always linked in my head.\u00a0 Most of the blame probably rests with Toho\u2019s 1962 film <i>King Kong vs. Godzilla<\/i>, but the arcade game Rampage probably played a small role too.\u00a0 Either way, I definitely needed one to pal around with my other kaiju.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00993.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23683\" alt=\"DSC00993\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00993.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00993.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like all the previous MonsterArts figures, Bandai brought their \u201cA\u201d game to King Kong\u2019s sculpt and design.\u00a0 The figure\u2019s proportions mimic that of a real gorilla, making him the most lifelike MonsterArts to date and allowing him execute realistic poses like standing up on his squat hind legs or leaning forward and resting on all fours.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00954.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23688\" alt=\"DSC00954\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00954.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00954.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00954.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00954.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kong\u2019s sculpt is highly detailed, with the body being mostly covered by fur.\u00a0 On the areas where his skin shows through you can see wrinkles, muscle definition, and even lines and fingerprints on his hands and feet.\u00a0 In addition to these details, the figure is also covered in scars from previous battles and his right ear is even missing a chunk of skin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00987.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23692\" alt=\"DSC00987\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00987.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00987.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00987.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00987.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kong comes with three alternate heads.\u00a0 The first is a standard determined gorilla look.\u00a0 His mouth is closed and a snaggletooth is sticking out while his eyes are intensely focused ahead.\u00a0 Second is a yelling\/fighting face with his mouth opened wide, baring his teeth.\u00a0 The third head is equally animated but much more playful with his mouth in an \u201cooh ooh\u201d expression.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00999.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23684\" alt=\"DSC00999\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00999.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00999.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00999.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00999.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>King Kong\u2019s articulation is overall great, although it\u2019s more heavily focused on his upper body.\u00a0 His neck, shoulders, biceps, wrists, torso, waist, hips, and ankles are all ball jointed.\u00a0 His elbows and knees are double hinges attached to ball joints, while the ball of his foot and toes are on single hinges.\u00a0 All these joints allow him to be posed beating his chest, standing on two or four legs, and looking straight up.\u00a0 Unfortunately, his sculpt hinders other movements like turning his head side to side, sitting on his butt, or even positioning his back legs in a more dynamic way.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itsalltrue.net\/?p=23682&amp;page=2\">Continue to page 2&#8230;<\/a><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00968.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23690\" alt=\"DSC00968\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00968.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00968.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another problem that pops up on this figure is that his joints can easily pop out of place.\u00a0 This is a pretty common occurrence in the Monsterarts line, and one I wish would get fixed.\u00a0 I\u2019m not going to stop buying the figures over it, but I do think it\u2019s a problem that shouldn\u2019t exist in a line that\u2019s this expensive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC01003.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23685\" alt=\"DSC01003\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC01003.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC01003.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC01003.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC01003.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aside from the alternate faces, Kong comes with a bevy of replacement hands as well.\u00a0 You get a pair of open, holding, fists, and knuckles to the ground.\u00a0 There\u2019s also an additional right hand that is clutching a little Ann Darrow.\u00a0 The little figure has a minimal amount of design which really contrasts with Kong\u2019s figure, making her stand out nicely.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00979.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23691\" alt=\"DSC00979\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00979.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00979.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00979.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00979.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kong also comes with a small stick to beat a dino with.\u00a0 And unlike most MonsterArts, he also gets a stand.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of the large circular ones used for Pokemon, but with a larger \u201cC\u201d clip that can actually fit around the character.\u00a0 Unfortunately the figure is fairly heavy and I found it difficult balancing him just right so the arm would hold him up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00962.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23689\" alt=\"DSC00962\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00962.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00962.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00962.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/DSC00962.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aside from a few minor complaints, I\u2019m really happy with this figure.\u00a0 Kong\u2019s lifelike detail really allows him to stand out on a shelf full of imaginary kaiju and his alternate faces and upper body articulation give the figure a great amount of personality.\u00a0 Kong and Godzilla aren\u2019t technically the same size, but the two figures look fantastic sparing with each other in epic battle.\u00a0 That\u2019s the one thing I was really looking for in this figure.<\/p>\n<p>-Vault<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a
