Chrome Spray Quick Review"},"content":{"rendered":"

<\/a>I\u2019ve got to head out of town (again) this week, so I\u2019ve just got a quick review to finish of the week. I couldn\u2019t find much in my toy room that would be a good fit for a quick look, but then the postman arrived with something perfect: a repaint in the same colors as the original!<\/p>\n

Well, a repaint in the same colors as the original is a bit of fun on my part. MW-01C does differ from the original thanks to a fancy bit of vac-metal \u201cchrome\u201d. <\/p>\n

When I was a kid, I didn\u2019t really know the difference between G1 & G2. My original Optimus Prime had lost pieces in The Great Flood\u2122 and when my parents brought home the black-trailered G2 Prime \u2013 I didn\u2019t enjoy it any less. During that same time frame, a few of the G1 mini-vehicles were released in chrome. I had two; a chrome red Cliffjumper (it\u2019s really Hubcap, I know, but I got him before there was a TFWiki) and a chrome blue Seaspray… oh, nostalgia, I spit at thee\u2026 <\/p>\n

When iGear announced a chrome version of their third-party Spray, I waffled a bit. Did I really need this? Is it a good fit for my collection? I wasn\u2019t sure. And, honestly, I\u2019m still not, but I did pass on a lot of the Rager repaints and ended up paying for them later. I figured, at the very least, I could be guy the selling it to the guy who waffled instead of the being the waffler who paid more. We\u2019ll see. <\/p>\n

Like most of the Mini-Warriors though, Spray is a great Transformer. I would like it better if his sides were a little more seamless in alt mode, but it\u2019s otherwise slick, and his bot mode is even better. And then they went and made him shiny. Jerks. Anyway, it was enough for me to pre-order Chrome Spray though I more or less forgot about him (good sign on the needing him thing…) until the postman arrived with him this week.<\/p>\n

My only real complaint about this figure isn\u2019t even really about the figure. In the past, toys I ordered directly from iGear came packaged well, often in boxes that seem perfectly designed for their products. That wasn\u2019t the case with ChromeSpray. He came packaged in a bubble mailer and as you can see, he didn\u2019t fare well. Luckily, I\u2019m not an MIB collector, but I have been keeping most third party boxes either because I like the packaging or in case I decide to purge them later. I appreciated iGear offering free shipping, but I would\u2019ve glady paid a few bucks for shipping to get the thing here in one piece. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

If you have Spray, or read my reviews on the previous<\/a> versions<\/a>, then you pretty much know what to expect here. Other than the Chrome there are a few color differences like the lack of eyes, but the more desirable yellow faceplate. I was a little disappointed that iGear elected not to paint in the windows though. I may try and look into paints that work well over vac-metal and black out those puppies myself, or look to Reprolabels<\/A> to bail me out on this one. <\/p>\n

The only other change is in the articulation. One of the big appeals of the MW line is having classics TFs in modern, articulated figureform and ChromeSpray takes a step back from that. All the same great articulation is there, but the figure wasn\u2019t designed to have that thin layer of chrome covering the pieces and that makes the figure a little difficult to move around. It\u2019s possible I\u2019m being more careful than I need to be, but the creaking and the blue flecks of paint give me a little pause. It may ultimately be best to wear down the vac-metal and make the articulation a little more functional. <\/p>\n

Overall, if you love this line, love Seaspray, or just love toys of characters voiced by Alan Oppenheimer, this guy might be for you. He\u2019s a pretty basic repaint, but the G2 colors might just grab at the nostalgia of a slightly younger generation. Or this might be a situation where this Spray simply replaces the original one on display. That already happened<\/a> to Rager afterall. ChromeSpray is still available at iGear\u2019s shop and hopefully my shipping issues are an exception and not the rule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \t
