\"\"<\/a>Between the lack of uniquely sculpted subs figures and the focus on Nu52, it feels like the DC Classics line is wrapping up.\u00a0 All lines have to at some point, and it was a great run while it lasted.\u00a0 It\u2019s just sad that there are still so many characters waiting to be made into plastic.<\/p>\n

Pretty much everything that came out of the original Doom Patrol books was a great mixture of unique and crazy.\u00a0 Stories not only focused on battling insane characters like Mr. 103 and the Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man, but also the teams psychological issues and their difficulty coping with the powers that allow them to save humanity while making them outcasts from it.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As expected, Monsieur Mallah shares the exact same body as Gorilla Grodd.\u00a0 We did get an entirely new head sculpt, which I\u2019m really happy with.\u00a0 Grodd had that elongated cranium, which is perfectly accurate for his character.\u00a0 It just prevents him from looking like a normal gorilla.\u00a0 But Mallah, with his bushy facial hair and deep set eyes looks like he stepped right out of the jungle (you know, aside from the beret).\u00a0 I also like that his facial expressing changes slightly depending on the angle.\u00a0 It really adds a lot to his personality.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Unlike Mallah, Brain is an entirely new figure.\u00a0 Even though he\u2019s really just a glorified pedestal, the Four Horsemen did a fantastic job of designing him.\u00a0 The sculpted rings and panel lines help to break up the monotony, while the buttons and doodads add a bit or realism.\u00a0 The top of the figure has the general shape of a skull, but it is way more subtle than the overboard design of the Crisis figures a few years back.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Brain\u2019s design is pretty perfect, but my favorite part has to be his actual brain.\u00a0 It\u2019s a slimy looking pink and purple mass that\u2019s covered with a translucent dome.\u00a0 It definitely makes a nice juxtaposition on Robot Man\u2019s brain, which can be seen if you take off his skull cap. Now Brain can take over Cliff\u2019s body, and no one will be the wiser!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Even though Mallah is nearly the same as Grodd, his paint job goes a long way in making him look different.\u00a0 The biggest change is that his fur is a dark shade of brown.\u00a0 Also his hands, feet, chest and face have show off a darker skin color than Grodd\u2019s light gray.\u00a0 There\u2019s also a little bit of wash to fill in the spaces between his furs.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Brain\u2019s paint job is much more complex.\u00a0 Most of the figure is done in matte silver, with light blue metallic highlights filling in the rings around his \u201cneck\u201d.\u00a0 His brain has that slimy pink and purple look to it, while his eyes and nose are hollowed out with black.\u00a0 The small console on the front of his pillar also has painted buttons, and I really like that one of them is yellow.\u00a0 It\u2019s a nice little detail that makes it look like it\u2019s actually functional.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Mallah has all the same articulation and limitations as Grodd.\u00a0 He has a ball jointed neck.\u00a0 His shoulders and wrists are swivel hinges.\u00a0 There are swivel cuts at his biceps, highs, and ankles.\u00a0 And his elbows are hinged.\u00a0 This definitely gives him a few really good poses, but most action shots are out of his league.<\/p>\n

As you probably expected, Brain has no articulation.\u00a0 But he does look good being carried by Mallah.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Not counting Brain, there are only two accessories:\u00a0 Mallah\u2019s high tech looking rifle and a bandolier strap.\u00a0 I really like the design and two toned color of the rifle, and it definitely looks like something that Mallah would carry.\u00a0 Unfortunately it doesn\u2019t fit into his hands perfectly.\u00a0 Every time I move the figure, it seems to fall out.<\/p>\n

Mallah never travels without plenty of ammo.\u00a0 The bandolier is shaped to fit loosely around his body.\u00a0 All the casings are a metallic gold with a matte brown strap surrounding them.\u00a0 One thing that I really love is that there\u2019s a peg on the back to store his gun.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Doom Patrol\u2019s most recognizable enemies have to be Monsieur Mallah and The Brain.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how long this line will limp along, but I am so glad that we got these two characters before the end.\u00a0 The Doom Patrol just isn\u2019t complete without them.\u00a0 (Speaking of which, where\u2019s my Caulder and Mento!?!)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
