After Classics was canceled, I pretty much just glaze over that aisle on my way to the Marvel section.\u00a0 So I was a bit shocked to see a new Superman staring back at me during my last trip to TRU.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not a big fan of the New 52.\u00a0 I understand the need to interest new readers in comic books, but I don\u2019t think it should come at the cost of seventy plus years of rich history.\u00a0 Couple that with their new emphasis on art over story, and they\u2019ve pretty much lost the majority of my business.\u00a0 But not all the books or ideas are bad.\u00a0 Even though I may not enjoy the new spin on some of my favorite characters, that doesn\u2019t mean their new looks aren\u2019t cool.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22578\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup1.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So there I was, in the Toys R Us aisle staring at the nU Supes, Flash, and Hawkman.\u00a0 After some back and forth debating with myself, I ended up walking out with Superman.\u00a0 (I would have also picked up Hawkman, but he had some really disappointing paint issues with his face.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22580\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sculpt wise, this is the exact same Superman figure that came out last year in the DC All-Stars wave with nU Batman, Red Robin, and Superboy Prime.\u00a0 Compared to the average DC Classics body, this DCnU \u201cbuck\u201d is super detailed to capture all the intricate line work and piping from Jim Lee\u2019s designs.\u00a0 Most notable is probably his new chest with its raised \u201cS\u201d symbol.\u00a0 This is a really nice touch, and I kind of wish some of my other Superman figures featured it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22581\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup4.jpg?resize=640%2C428\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup4.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup4.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup4.jpg?resize=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Supes also has an entirely new belt piece, biceps, forearms, fists, and shins.\u00a0 His feet may also be new, but I can\u2019t quite tell for sure.\u00a0 nU Supes also has a nU head.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think the Four Horsemen captured the look of Jim Lee\u2019s style very well, but that\u2019s actually a good thing in my book.\u00a0 I definitely prefer the 4H to bring a bit of their flare to the design, this way all the nU DC figures won\u2019t look exactly the same.\u00a0 He definitely has a much younger look than our previous DC Classics version.\u00a0 Personally, I don\u2019t even think he could pass as a younger version of Classics Supes.\u00a0 He\u2019s more like an older clone Superboy, or even a passing resemblance to Kal Kent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22580\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup3.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The biggest difference between this Unlimited Supes and his previous All-Stars release is in the paint\/plastic.\u00a0 Not only are the red areas a much brighter shade, but glitter was added to the blue plastic to give him a glowing sheen.\u00a0 Personally, I really love this bright and shining look.\u00a0 It reminds me of something Grant Morrison quietly pointed out in his DC One Million series.\u00a0 Superheroes have always had flashy costumes, with each new generation making theirs a bit brighter and showier.\u00a0 The costumed heroes from the 853<sup>rd<\/sup> century seemed to glow and were even colored differently in the books to emphasize this difference.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itsalltrue.net\/?p=22575&amp;page=2\">Continue to page \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As for articulation, nU Supes is pretty on par with what to expect from a DC Classics figure.\u00a0 His head is on a ball joint, and it can actually move up and down a very tiny bit.\u00a0 His shoulder and hips are swivel\/hinges.\u00a0 His biceps, wrists, waist and thighs have swivel cuts, while his elbows, knees and ankles are hinged.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22582\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup6.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup6.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup6.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup6.jpg?resize=400%2C300&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Supes has no accessories, which I guess is OK since he couldn\u2019t hold them with his fist hands.\u00a0 He also doesn\u2019t come with a stand, which used to be inserted into these rerun figures.<\/p>\n<p>What you see is what you get.\u00a0 Paint apps seem to be the biggest quality control issues with the figures I\u2019ve seen.\u00a0 The paint can be a bit thick in places, and you\u2019ll definitely want to look the figure over before purchasing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22583\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup7.jpg?resize=640%2C418\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup7.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup7.jpg?resize=300%2C195&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.itsalltrue.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/nsup7.jpg?resize=400%2C261&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>All around it\u2019s a pretty decent DC Classics figure.\u00a0 It\u2019s nice to get such a unique body, which helps to add a bit more variety to the shelf.\u00a0 Even if you\u2019re not into the nU 52, this version of Supes could easily be from an alternate reality, the Legion time, or One Million.\u00a0 Either way I think I\u2019ll be picking up a Batman and Wonder Woman to keep
