\"\"<\/a>Even though the end of the year is coming up, there are still plenty of great toys making their way in under the wire.\u00a0 One of my favorite lines this year has been Bandai\u2019s SH MonsterArts and they\u2019re definitely going out on a high note with their newest figure, Burning Godzilla.<\/p>\n

For those of you who don\u2019t know, Burning Godzilla is the super angry version of the character from the end of Godzilla vs. Destroyah.\u00a0 The epic brawl with Destoyah pushes Godzilla\u2019s anger and power over the top and he goes into a meltdown faze.\u00a0 Godzilla\u2019s energy boils out of him, making his skin melt and body glow in a red hot intensity as the military hopelessly tries to cool him down in order to prevent massive nuclear destruction.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I really didn\u2019t expect much from this figure when he was first announced.\u00a0 Previous Burning Godzilla toys were mostly just repaints or remolds in various translucent colors, and there was no reason to think Bandai would do much more than that this time.\u00a0 I\u2019m very glad I was wrong.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been pretty impressed with how Bandai of Japan has responded to collector\u2019s complaints.\u00a0 The first Godzilla figure was good, but had a difficult time pulling off dynamic poses.\u00a0 This issue was fixed with the release of Space Godzilla, who was a bit bulkier but could still pull off action stances that Godzilla couldn\u2019t.\u00a0 Space Godzilla was the new and good standard of articulation, but Bandai wasn\u2019t done improving yet.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Burning Godzilla was made with posing directly at the forefront.\u00a0 This figure has an entirely new torso, which is now made up of three parts.\u00a0 Not only does this allow him to do things like bend forward, down, or twist, but it also makes him taller than the first MonsterArts Godzilla.\u00a0 It\u2019s not by a lot, but it\u2019s definitely noticeable and now Burning G is equal in height with Space and Mecha.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Bandai also improved poseability by widening the spaces between the figure\u2019s skin and ball joints.\u00a0 This is particularly helpful with areas like the hips and shoulders, allowing them to move with a fuller range in all directions without the outer sculpt getting in the way.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Speaking of sculpt, Burning Godzilla has a few new body parts too.\u00a0 There are the three new torso pieces I mentioned above.\u00a0 He also has new hips and shoulders, which are much wider than the original\u2019s.\u00a0 I want to say his biceps, knees, and shins are new also.\u00a0 He also comes with an alternate pair of new hands.\u00a0 They\u2019re still open with the claws out, but they\u2019re in a much more natural pose than the original\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Unfortunately this new poseability has its downside.\u00a0 Some of the spaces created for these joints to move are a bit too big.\u00a0 There are a lot of gaps at the articulation points.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t too big an issue except for his hips.\u00a0 When looking at the figure from the side, you can see straight through to daylight where the hips join the torso.\u00a0\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Burning G\u2019s neck and head are also newly sculpted pieces.\u00a0 This head sculpt is definitely an improvement on the original figure\u2019s.\u00a0 I don\u2019t really know how though.\u00a0 It seems to be a combination of subtle changes in its shape, jaw line, and snout somehow makes him look more like Godzilla to me.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Burning Godzilla\u2019s torso, shoulders, and thighs are made up of a translucent red that\u2019s been painted with orange and yellows on the inside.\u00a0 Mixed with his rocky black skin texture, this gives the figure a really cool volcano lava effect.\u00a0 His torso spines have been given a minimum of black paint causing them to look like they\u2019re glowing from the inside.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This is where my only other complaint about the figure comes in.\u00a0 Burning G\u2019s tail spines were given a gleaming white paint job.\u00a0 In itself it looks good, but sadly it doesn\u2019t match the figure all together.\u00a0 They really should look a bit darker, like the ones on his head.\u00a0 There\u2019s also no fading into the burning spikes, so it\u2019s just trans orange to white with nothing in between.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Before I get away from paint, I also wanted to mention Burning G\u2019s eyes.\u00a0 His head and teeth have a similar look to the original\u2019s, but his eyes have this great fire-red death gaze.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even see the little bloodshot bits until I looked at this picture because they\u2019re just that small.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Even though Burning G has the benefits of new body parts and wider movement, his figure still has almost the same articulation as the original.\u00a0 The figure is comprised of ball joints at his head, neck, shoulders, chest, abs, biceps, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, shins, and ankles.\u00a0 His tail is also made up of thirty four ball joints.\u00a0 His jaw is on a ball joint too, but it\u2019s more secure and can\u2019t be pushed out of place as easy.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Aside from his alternate hands, Burning Godzilla comes with two accessories.\u00a0 One is a brand new Maser tank and the other is a new Maser device on a truck. \u00a0Both these pieces are nicely sculpted but have very simple paint jobs.\u00a0 The Maser cannons on each vehicle are on a swivel joint, so they can be aimed.\u00a0 Both also fit in perfectly with the bonus effects pack that was made for the first Godzilla figure.<\/p>\n

These two vehicles are the first release bonuses for Burning Godzilla.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Even with the gap and paint issues I have with this figure, I still think he\u2019s fantastic.\u00a0 I used to refer to the original MonsterArts Godzilla as the best Godzilla figure out there, but I can\u2019t anymore.\u00a0 Burning Godzilla is superior in almost every way and I\u2019m extremely happy that I didn\u2019t skip out on ordering him.\u00a0 His glowing meltdown effects look fantastic, and his new head sculpt is perfect.\u00a0 I\u2019ll definitely be buying this figure again if he gets repainted in normal colors.<\/p>\n
