<\/a>Masters of the Universe Classics usually does a fantastic job of updating vintage figures with a more modernized look. \u00a0I was particularly excited to see what Dragon Blaster Skeletor\u2019s would look like.\u00a0 Unfortunately I think my expectations were too high.<\/p>\n

I never had Dragon Blaster Skeletor as a kid, but I did have an awesome poster with him on it.\u00a0 You know the one.\u00a0 Thunder Punch He-Man and the Masters were on the left, facing off against Dragon Blaster Skeletor and his evil minions on the right.\u00a0 And spoiling the battle for everyone was the Horde coming down the middle.\u00a0 So even though I didn\u2019t have the figure, I always thought he had an awesome look.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until years later that I realized just how crazy that figure truly was.\u00a0 The inspiration behind making new armor is simple enough.\u00a0 He-Man is getting new powers and Skeletor can\u2019t afford to fall behind in this Eternian arms race.\u00a0 So what\u2019s the best way to counter your enemy\u2019s new thunder punching powers?\u00a0 Chain a dragon to your back and carry him around piggyback style!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I realize every character in the MOTU world is a bodybuilder, but even so it still can\u2019t be easy lugging a dragon over your shoulders that\u2019s at least half your size.\u00a0 Talk about an exhausting battle.\u00a0 There\u2019s also the small issue of how do you control the dragon?\u00a0 I may be able to strap on a komodo dragon like a satchel, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019d be able to focus his attention from biting my face to fighting my enemies as I huffed and puffed my way around an Ultimate Battleground.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

DB Skelly\u2019s body sculpt is all reused pieces, but thanks to the recent addition of Kobra Khan we now have boot tops and forearms that are reminiscent of the vintage Skeletor\u2019s design.\u00a0 This is a great touch to the figure and I really love that fans can cobble together their ultimate vision of Skeletor from the various different styles that have been released.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This Skelly does come with an all new pieces of armor, designed like the vintage figure\u2019s and made of soft plastic so that it can easily be removed.\u00a0 Of course the best part about this new armor is the dragon hanging off his back.\u00a0 The Dragon<\/span> Butternut is made of two pieces, his body and head.\u00a0 The sculpting on his body is top notch and makes me a bit sad that he can\u2019t really move because he\u2019d be a great creature figure to pose on the shelf.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Unfortunately I\u2019m not as thrilled with the dragon head.\u00a0 He really has way too many teeth, which gives his entire head odd proportions.\u00a0 Also, Thunder Punch He-Man had a great surprise with the inclusion of an effects piece.\u00a0 I was really expecting DB Skelly to get the same treatment and include a spraying effects piece.\u00a0 So I was a bit disappointed to learn that not only was he not getting an effects piece, but that his mouth was molded closed.\u00a0\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Skelly\u2019s paint job is pretty plain.\u00a0 They did give him a black loin cloth with purple belt, which is another nice callback to the vintage figure.\u00a0 His head is probably the most detailed area with its heavy use of green with yellow highlights.\u00a0 Another unfortunate issue that plagues this figure is his painted arms.\u00a0 I have a couple of paint chips on my figure, and I\u2019ll definitely be glad to see the molded arms return.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Dragon has a bit more detail to his paint job than the main figure.\u00a0 The body is also molded in black, but he has a thick layer of red that fades into purple along his spine.\u00a0 His neon green collar and gleaming white teeth also do a good job of breaking up all those darker colors.\u00a0 Painting his toe nails was also a nice touch.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Articulation on Skeletor is what you\u2019d expect from a MOTU Classics figure.\u00a0 I do think his head has a bit more range though.\u00a0 It seems like he can look further up than the other Skeletor figures.\u00a0 This actually makes sense since he has to lean forward a bit for the dragon to be facing other figures and not the sky.<\/p>\n

The Dragon\u2019s one point of articulation is his head.\u00a0 It\u2019s on the same kind of ball joint as any other MOTU figure and can be swapped out the same way also.\u00a0 The Dragon can also be removed from the armor piece, but he can\u2019t go far since he\u2019s still attached by the chain.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Aside from his new armor, Skeletor comes with one accessory.\u00a0 At first I thought this was the same power sword in purple that came with previous Skeletors.\u00a0 But the paint job on this one is actually a bit different.\u00a0 This sword has a lighter purple on the blade and is even a bit rough to the touch.\u00a0 The hilt is also not painted black.\u00a0 I think I actually like this sword better than the original, and will probably be using it for my main Skeletor\u2019s weapon.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So yeah, the figure itself isn\u2019t perfect.\u00a0 I\u2019m still iffy on the dragon\u2019s head, and an effects piece would have made me really happy.\u00a0 But Dragon Blaster Skeletor is an awesome figure based off of an insane premise.\u00a0 Basically he\u2019s the kind of figure that makes the MOTU toy line so fun to collect and play with, which is what keeps me invested in this line.<\/p>\n
