Batman Cosbaby – The Nolan Series"},"content":{"rendered":"

<\/a> We\u2019re closing out Son of Guest Review Week with one of the best in the business, Michael Crawford! He may cringe at the thought, but I\u2019ve been enjoying his toy reviews since I was in high school. He sets the gold standard for toy reviews and I\u2019m elated that he agreed to participate in guest review week!<\/p>\n

Packaging – **1\/2<\/strong>
\nMost of the Cosbaby figures have been packed in bubble\/cardback packaging, allowing you to see the figure. Not so this time, where they are blind boxed.<\/p>\n

Regular readers know how much I hate blind boxing, especially on something that costs almost $10, but there are no hidden figures, thankfully. If you buy the larger box set of nine figures, you will get one of each for a complete group.<\/p>\n

The box is pretty basic, but it does have a small photo of each figure in the set on the side, so you’ll know what you’re looking for.<\/p>\n

Sculpting – ***1\/2<\/strong>
\nThese are fairly small figures, usually lumped in with the vinyl category although they are solid plastic. Larger than mini-mates, they are more in line with Mezco’s smaller Mez-itz. Each stands about 3″ tall.<\/p>\n

The basic style is somewhat simplistic, with lots of rectangles and circles. And yet Hot Toys has managed to take this basic set of construction pieces and add enough sculpting detail – sometimes a little, sometimes a lot – to give them their own unique personality.<\/p>\n

The masks are generally not removable, and that includes both Bank Robber Joker and Bane. Catwoman is an exception, but more on that in the Accessories section.<\/p>\n

Paint – ***1\/2<\/strong>
\nHot Toys is probably best known for the ultra-realistic production paint work on their sixth scale action figures. Obviously, that wouldn’t be appropriate here, but their overall quality and clean lines are still evident in this more basic application.<\/p>\n

For some of the characters, the paint work is less detailed. That’s due to less detailing in the costumes themselves, as is the case with Catwoman and the Batmen.<\/p>\n

But with other characters, like Bane and the Bank Robber Joker, the amount of detail work is really quite impressive. The overall feel might be a bit cartoony, but Bane’s face cover is just as realistic looking as you can get.<\/p>\n

Articulation – ***<\/strong>
\nEvery figure has the same articulation, since the base body is identical.<\/p>\n

There’s a true ball jointed neck, but every one of mine was stuck. Don’t go twisting the head right away – rock it back and forth and side to side first until you’re sure it’s not stuck.<\/p>\n

The hips are also true ball joints, and allow the legs quite a bit of mobility. It also means that you’ll have no trouble finding the center of gravity in just about any stance.<\/p>\n

There’s also a simple pin shoulder, cut wrists and a cut waist. Most of the figures can’t really use the waist, since the long coats restrict them, but they can also pop apart at this joint (shoulders and wrists, too) for swapping around…if you’re into that sort of thing. Accessories – DK Batman, BR Joker, Catwoman **; the rest Bupkis<\/strong>
\nThere’s not a ton of extras with this set, which was a bit of a disappointment.<\/p>\n

<\/center><\/p>\n

In fact, the Bruce Wayne Batman, Joker, Bane, Scarecrow, BB Batman and DKR Batman have no extras, at least by my definition. Since parts do pop off, you can remove some of the items like the belts or coats, but I’m not counting those here.<\/p>\n

The DK Batman has the one true accessory – the gun. I had a little trouble getting it to fit in one of his hands, but it does work with a little effort.<\/p>\n

Catwoman has a removable mask, and I’m willing to count that here. It pops off her head in one piece, but the ear-like goggles do not flip down over her eyes.<\/p>\n

The last accessory is definitely a bit of a stretch – it’s the bag of money from the bank job, hung over the shoulders of the masked Joker. You’ll need to pop his arms off to remove it, but you can and it’s a nice addition.<\/p>\n

Fun Factor – ***<\/strong>
\nThese are great fun little figures, with plenty of sturdy articulation. They’re also just so damn cute it’s almost impossible to resist posing and playing with them. Younger kids probably haven’t seen the films, but they will recognize the characters, giving them even broader appeal.<\/p>\n

Value – *** <\/strong>
\nIf you pick up the full set of nine – the most common way they are being offered – you’ll pay around $80, or about $9 each. There are a few retailers selling these as sets of three at $27 or so, again at about $9 each.<\/p>\n

Considering the general quality of most sub ten dollar action figures these days, that’s actually a very good price. I’d like to see a few more accessories, but these are still well worth the price for the fan of the style.<\/p>\n

Things to Watch Out For –<\/strong>
\nI had the issues with the stuck necks, and managed to break the Bank Robber Joker before I realized that it wasn’t turning, it was ripping. I found that almost all 9 were stuck to begin with, and I managed to free up the others by moving the head side to side and back and forth before trying to twist or turn.<\/p>\n

Overall – ***1\/2<\/strong>
\nThese might not be what most people think of when they think \u201cHot Toys\u201d, but the company brings high quality work to every license, every style, and every concept. These guys are a bit too cute for some folk’s taste, but I like them quite a bit.<\/p>\n

This is one of those lines that works best when you have a lot of them together across many licenses. Put Batman with Iron Man with Buzz Lightyear and you have quite the display!<\/p>\n
