\"\"<\/a>It\u2019s my first review up for S.T.R.I.P.E. Week and I thought I\u2019d kick it off with the surprisingly cool figure of Magog.\u00a0 Although this figure is technically based on a newer character, the original design was one of the more interesting 90\u2019s creations.<\/p>\n

David Reid was a Lance Corporal in the US Marine Corps, and the great-grandson of Franklin Roosevelt (something that always seems to get mentioned).\u00a0 While recovering artifacts that were looted from the National Museum of Iraq, he touched a fragment of the Third World being known as Gog and received plasma energy powers.\u00a0 Lance was also raised from the dead by Gog, being recreated in the Supreme Being\u2019s image.\u00a0 This is the character that the figure is officially based on, but I actually prefer Magog\u2019s original incarnation.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Born in the pages of one of the greatest Elseworlds stories, Kingdom Come, Magog was the symbol for everything that was wrong about the new \u201cextreme\u201d superheroes of the 1990\u2019s.\u00a0 Magog wasn\u2019t afraid of taking the law into his own hands, and doing what Superman and the older generations of heroes wouldn\u2019t.\u00a0 His first major action was to kill the Joker, an act that society approved of at the time.\u00a0 But ten years later he would be condemned by those same people when his Justice Battalion unwittingly caused a nuclear blast that destroyed Kansas.\u00a0 With millions dead on his conscience, he surrendered to Superman and the authorities and began a self-imposed mission to atone for his sins.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Magog is actually a pretty amazing figure, which didn\u2019t come across to me in his preview pics.\u00a0 The reason why I\u2019m so impressed is because I\u2019m pretty sure he\u2019s a 100% new sculpt.\u00a0 I\u2019m assuming they have plans to reuse his legs and arms in the future, but it\u2019s still nice to see a basically new figure so close to the end of the line.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Magog\u2019s sculpt is classic Horsemen goodness.\u00a0 The character\u2019s got bulging muscles with sculpted metallic armor running down the left side of his body.\u00a0 His right side is covered by a giant shoulder bad, which is a separate piece that\u2019s been glued on.\u00a0 But what\u2019s not a separate piece is the underlying strap.\u00a0 It\u2019s even sculpted onto his abs.\u00a0 Magog also has new puffy pants with sculpted on straps, while his boots go all the way up to the knee with an interesting padding design.\u00a0 Even his right bicep and hand look new to me.<\/p>\n

The painting on this figure is also surprisingly nice.\u00a0 I really like the contrast of dark brown and gray against the shiny gold on his body.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

With all these new pieces, his articulation is still pretty average for a DCUC.\u00a0 There are a couple of things to take notice of though.\u00a0 His head is on a ball joint, but it doesn\u2019t really have much up and down movement.\u00a0 His ab crunch is a ratcheting joint, which I found surprising.\u00a0 Also, I really love how well his thigh swivels have been incorporated into the figures design.\u00a0 They\u2019re barely noticeable just under his leg straps.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Magog comes with one accessory, a staff that shoots plasma bursts.\u00a0 The staff itself also has fantastic sculpting and the same metallic gold paint as the figure.\u00a0 Before I physically had the figure I was pretty annoyed that the revolver on his belt was molded into its holster.\u00a0 That\u2019s a bit more excusable now that I see just how many new pieces this figure has.\u00a0 I still don\u2019t like it, or how it looks, but I can accept it much easier now.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This Magog figure is excellent, and a testament to why I started collecting DCUC.\u00a0 He also gives me a little hope that the Collector\u2019s Club may turn out ok.\u00a0 One thing\u2019s for sure though, I\u2019ve wanted more Elseworlds characters since the beginning of the line, especially Kingdom Come.\u00a0 Matty got my hopes up early with that repaint of Captain Atom, and ever since then I\u2019ve been waiting for more to pop up.\u00a0 Magog\u2019s a very welcome addition to my shelf, and it\u2019ll be nice to get Red Robin later too.\u00a0 I just wish we\u2019d get a couple of the big guns.\u00a0 It may have been fifteen years since Kingdom Come, but I bet that Superman and Batman would still sell well at retail.<\/p>\n
