\"\"<\/a>I\u2019m rounding out my week with a couple of figures from Batman Legacy wave three, which finally started poping up at stores here and there.\u00a0 Noisy was lucky enough to snag the First Appearance Batman and Earth 2 Catwoman, but I get to review them.<\/p>\n

Before we get into the mixed review that is these figures, I just wanted to say that I\u2019m very disappointed with the way Mattel handled this line.\u00a0 Aside from a few upcoming 2-packs, Series three is the final wave of the Batman Legacy line.\u00a0 Batman has enough popularity, alternate versions, and supporting characters to maintain his own line well into the future, even without a direct media tie-in.\u00a0 But in a year where Batman has a popular video game, an upcoming movie, possibly a new cartoon series, and plenty of comic books, Mattel decides to cancel his personal line.\u00a0 Does this boggle anyone else\u2019s mind?<\/p>\n

OK, enough with the ranting and on to the review.<\/p>\n

First up is 1st<\/sup> Appearance Batman.\u00a0 When it comes to sculpt, this figure is all over the place and I\u2019m not quite sure how many newly sculpted pieces he has.\u00a0 The obvious ones are his head, cape and belt.\u00a0 What I\u2019m not sure about are his hands.\u00a0 They seem to have a lot more sculpting than the normal DCUC gloves, and their overall appearance makes his arms seem a bit too long.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve compared his gloves to my other DCUC characters, but couldn\u2019t find a perfect match.\u00a0 This makes me think they may be newly sculpted pieces, but I kind of hope I\u2019m wrong because this Batman really needs a new chest.\u00a0 The super sculpted pectoral muscles clash horribly with the simplified look of Batman\u2019s head, and the Golden Age itself.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I actually really like the head sculpt on this Batman.\u00a0 I think the Horsemen did a good job of portraying the sometimes odd angles in a realistic manner.\u00a0 I\u2019m not as big a fan of the cape, which was created out of a sturdy soft plastic.\u00a0 I understand that they were going for that same specific look, but it becomes almost a hindrance on the figure by limiting his movement taking up way too much room.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Catwoman\u2019s design is based on her Earth-2 appearance way back in the old old old DC Universe.\u00a0 Catwoman is one of those characters that have had plenty of interesting costumes over the years, and I\u2019d love to see more figures based on her early designs.\u00a0 I\u2019m actually a fan of her dress costume; even if it is impractical I always thought it had a very simple yet sexy appeal.\u00a0 This was a pretty easy capture with Raven\u2019s high cut dress piece, but the Horsemen really pulled it off by giving her a very attractive head sculpt.<\/p>\n

From what I can tell, this Catwoman figure also has a newly sculpted cape, forearms, and feet.\u00a0 I\u2019m not one hundred percent sure on the feet, but again I couldn\u2019t find any that matched my previous female figures.\u00a0 I also have to note here that I\u2019m so glad Matty finally created a chest piece with separate breasts.\u00a0 It looks so much better than the uni-boob.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Paint jobs on both figures are decent, but certainly not perfect.\u00a0 There are small imperfections on both figures, but nothing that we can\u2019t ignore for the most part.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also nothing really new in the articulation department.\u00a0 Catwoman\u2019s head is limited by her hair, which was expected.\u00a0 Sadly, Batman\u2019s head is also limited in its up and down movement.\u00a0 The collar on his cape may have something to do with this, but there\u2019s also got to be a design element since he can\u2019t look up either.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the more disappointing aspects of Matty\u2019s DC figures lately is the extreme lack of accessories.\u00a0 From molding Magog\u2019s gun into his holster to skimping on giving Nekron his lantern\/scythe, accessories seem to be one of the easiest and most disappointing ways to cut costs.\u00a0 Both Batman and Catwoman could have easily done with the addition of already sculpted batarangs and a whip, but instead we got the familiar Bat-symbol stands which don\u2019t actually work on male characters.\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019s just me, but I\u2019d gladly go without these kinds of stands if it meant a couple of nice accessories were possible.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019m pretty sure I won\u2019t be picking up this new Batman figure.\u00a0 His simplified head sculpt and detailed body just clash too much for my tastes.\u00a0 But I do think I\u2019ll keep my eye out for Catwoman.\u00a0 She\u2019s the perfect example of what a good reuse of parts looks like, and her new head sculpt looks really great.\u00a0 All she needs is my old Catwoman\u2019s whip and she\u2019ll be perfect.<\/p>\n
