/>This review was originally published on January 31st, 2012.
Because of the delays in December, we received our Demo-Man and Star Sisters a few days apart. So January felt like a typical month. It’s almost fitting that it should work out this way since all four characters are on the fringes of the MOTU spotlight.

I wasn’t really familiar with the Star Sisters before the introduction of the Classics line. But I’m one of those inclusive MOTU fans who believe that every character deserves their place in continuity. I love seeing obscure characters like Wun-Dar and Carnivus hob-knobbing shoulder to shoulder with He-Man’s and Skeletor’s comrades. So even though I was surprised at their announcement, I was totally ready to clear a space on the shelf for them.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-16539" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.itsalltrue.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/ssis1.jpg?resize=640%2C480" alt="" was also pretty glad that Mattel decided to release the Sisters as a 3-pack instead of singles. This way we get them over with and won’t have to beat the clock, hoping for a completed team before the line ends. The downside is that quality control problems become a bit more prevalent when you get into multi-packs, and the Star Sisters are no exception.

Even though the three sisters share a lot of the same female “buck”, there are plenty of sculpted differences to make them feel unique. The head sculpts are probably the most prevalent of these new pieces. If I had to pick the prettiest, I’d say it was Starla. She has a pleasant expression on her face that just seems to have a bit of personality.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full />

Tallstar’s a close second though. I actually really love her hair. The 4H really do a fantastic job when it comes to long flowing locks. Jewelstar’s head sculpt is ok. I find her crown of pink gems interesting, but at the same time a bit disturbing in how it seperates her face from the rest of her head. I know what the look is meant to portray, but this may be one of those times where 2D art doesn’t transfer well into 3D sculpture.

These same problems creep into the design of Jewelstar’s costume also. I really like the fact that she was given translucent jewel-encrusted armor, and that they tried to make her costume angular in design. This seems to fall apart with the piece covering her lower torso though. That diaper piece only takes away from the design and would have looked much better if they would have given more of an angular armor-like design. Continue to page />

Like Jewelstar, Tallstar’s design was based more on function than looks, but it was executed much better. I don’t know why, but I really love those poofy shoulder designs. I also think Terry and the Horsemen did a fantastic job of translating the original figure’s accordion joints into a ribbed armor look.

Starla has the simplest design to her costume, and also the most feminine. She wears a simple corset and skirt combo with new bracers and boots.

The coloring on all three figures is very vibrant. I know some fans were looking for more of a Filmation influence here, but I like how they turned out. Especially Jewelstar’s oily translucent cape is a really cool effect, plus her whole body is speckled with a very fine glitter.

Sadly, my biggest quality control issues also come in the paint job. There seems to be a few more paint rubs and black smudges on these three than I’ve seen in a while. I’m also a bit disappointed with the eyes of Starla, which seem to be looking up. Also the eyes of Jewelstar are a bit crooked. The small smudges I can live with, but the eye thing really bugs me.

<a touch.

Tallstar comes with additional segments for her neck, arms, and legs to “grow” longer. The designers did a fantastic job of creating a smooth system that snaps together and apart very easy. The pieces even look pretty good when in use. I just wish that they could have included just one more set of extensions. As is, Tallstar is only about a head taller than her sisters. One or two more sets of these would be great additions to our next Weapons Pak.

<a since it was slated to come with the original vintage toys before they were canceled. They even sculpted him a new stand that’s reminiscent of the vintage one also. I love this hawk sculpt and want it in as many colors as possible. Glorybird makes fifth, but the Sorceress will be here soon. (Now where’s my Sinestro Corps yellow!)

Glorybird isn’t just great because he’s colored in a radiant pink with a sparkly dry wash. He’s great because of his golden harness that contains his magnificent star encrusted Mohawk hairdo. This star-hawk gives him a 1970’s rock’n roll feel, à la Ziggy Stardust. That’s right. Glorybird is voiced by none other than David Bowie (at least in my mind).

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full
