Chogokin\u2019s Gokai Oh"},"content":{"rendered":"

<\/a>All year long, Bandai\u2019s been releasing a slew of merchandise for their 35th<\/sup> anniversary Super Sentai series: Gokaiger, but it\u2019s taken this long for them to make the pirate\u2019s zord, Gokai Oh, in a super articulated form. It feels like it has been one of the longest waits of my life…<\/p>\n

It\u2019s no news to anyone who\u2019s been reading my reviews that I\u2019m a huge fan of the new Super Sentai Gokaiger series.\u00a0 The series has a fantastic amount of nostalgia by incorporating elements from the previous thirty four Sentai teams into each episode, while at the same time the new team shows a level of originality and even a bit of irreverence in how they fight and approach a problem.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Like most previous teams, the Gokaiger\u2019s five vehicles all combine to form the giant fighting robot Gokai Oh.\u00a0 This zord is appropriately decked out in a pirate theme also.\u00a0 Just check out his two cutlasses and nifty captain\u2019s hat.\u00a0 You can even see a bandanna on his head during transformation right before he covers it up with his hat.\u00a0 Unfortunately this figures hat is part of his head, so no bandanna action here.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

You know a figure is sculpted well when it can trick you into thinking certain parts are movable when they\u2019re not.\u00a0 Not only is Gokai Oh\u2019s sculpt spot on when it comes to accuracy, but there are small details like the wheels of the individual vehicles that look like they could actually spin.\u00a0 It\u2019s almost frustrating, but in a good way, because all of those details make me want to transform him back into his separate pieces.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One thing I was a bit disappointed in is his face sculpt.\u00a0 On the show, Gokai Oh has a cocky smirk on his face.\u00a0 Sadly this wasn\u2019t reproduced on this figure.\u00a0 It\u2019s not too big of a deal, but it definitely takes some of the personality away from his character.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gokai Oh\u2019s five major body parts are molded in the predominant color of the vehicles, so there aren\u2019t any issues there.\u00a0 The place where most problems will pop up is on the tiny details like the many Gokaiger symbols or the gold and silver trim.\u00a0 But my figure only has a couple of very minor applications that were sloppy.<\/p>\n

Since he is a Chogokin, Gokai Oh was given actual metal for the main part of both his legs.\u00a0 This was a nice touch, and it adds a bit of heft to the figure.\u00a0 As far as I can tell, the rest of the figure is plastic though.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gokai Oh\u2019s articulation is crazy good.\u00a0 His head, waist, shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles are all on ball joints.\u00a0 He\u2019s got swivel joints on his biceps and thighs.\u00a0 His elbows and knees are double hinged, while his toe joints are single hinged.\u00a0 As if all that wasn\u2019t enough, he has articulated costume pieces to allow for even greater pose-ability.\u00a0 His shoulder pads and manly pirate skirt are all on hinge joints so as not to obstruct his arms and legs.\u00a0 Gokai Oh can also extend slightly at the neck, waist, and elbows to all for even greater flexibility.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Gokai Oh\u2019s main set of accessories are his two cutlasses, which can be stored on the clips at his sides.\u00a0 He also comes with three sets of hands:\u00a0 fists, open, and holding.\u00a0 Lastly, there\u2019s a small attachment that would allow him to connect to the peg of a stand.\u00a0 But he didn\u2019t come with a stand, and my Figma one\u2019s weren\u2019t strong enough to hold his weight.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If you buy the first release version of Gokai Oh, you\u2019ll receive two sword slashing effects as a bonus.\u00a0 They\u2019re both made of a very light translucent blue plastic and really give a sense of movement to a posed figure.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Gokai Oh\u2019s other accessories have to do with his abilities on the show.\u00a0 Every time the Gokaigers unlock a Grand Power from one of the previous teams, they are able to incorporate it into Gokai Oh\u2019s design and attack.\u00a0 The Gokai\u2019s own special attack is a devastating cannonball barrage.\u00a0 Six spots can be opened on the figure\u2019s arms and legs for the cannonball pieces, while his chest can be replaced with the extended cannon.\u00a0 They even included a firing blast effect that you can attach to the front.<\/p>\n

To keep with the accuracy of his abilities, this Gokai Oh figure was designed to combine with the other Sentai robots in the Super Robot Chogokin line.\u00a0 This is a great additional feature, and an easy way to get people to buy more robots.\u00a0 Bandai of Japan is certainly devious.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019m pretty happy with Gokai Oh.\u00a0 Obviously a lot of my love for him comes from the show, but I\u2019d be willing to buy a couple more of the various Sentai robots based on his all around quality.\u00a0 Unfortunately these figures aren\u2019t the cheapest, and he\u2019ll set you back at least $40 plus shipping.\u00a0 So you might want to wait for one you really love before taking the plunge into this smaller Chogokin line.<\/p>\n
