Batman Breaks The Internet: NECA’s 7″ 1989 Batman (Back in Black)

Forget the butt thing, Batman is still the master of breaking the toy internet. The Caped Crusader is at again thanks to NECA! Deep down, we all knew that NECA wouldn’t mold a 7″ Batman figure just to paint it purple, right? Right? We all knew… I bought two NES figures anyway. But now? No painting required!

Images of this started circulating last night, and then a full-on eBay listing appeared today! It couldn’t have seemed more fake if it tried. The user was brand new. It was “WarnerBrosHomeEntertainment” but it had zero feedback. And never mind that it’s on eBay first! I wasn’t sure, but I forked over money. And then? Then it got removed from eBay! (Buyers were alerted that folks that paid for the item should still get theirs, but to contact eBay if it does not arrive).

But NECA took to Twitter to verify it’s authenticity and assure us that there will be other outlets for collectors to pick this bad boy up. It’s two days of good news to me – the best Spidey costume in Jumbo and now the best Batman costume in 7″? I’m good… I just don’t know what to do with this second NES Batman. Maybe I’ll paint it white – Arctic Keaton Batman, baby!

  1. Nice! I almost bought the NES Batman until I saw it was $24, but I will definitely be getting this guy whenever/where ever it’s available.

  2. I thought about getting this for about 5 mins before I ordered it. Lol. I don’t have Batman 89 on blu ray either so it’s a win/win situation for me. Man, now I want a Joker, and a Catwoman and a Penguin (don’t care that the Batman Returns suit is different) ๐Ÿ™‚

Or you could, y’know, return it ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Y’know… I’ve never been a big fan of returns. I blame working in retail for so long. I hate returns from the business side so I never want to do the customer side. lol

  4. This is awesome! I just kinda wish it was Returns Batman… the extra little scallops on th ebat’s tail bother me… :/

    1. The licensing problems with that first movie logo are always funny to me. Maybe we’ll get a 25th Anniversary Returns Batman in a few years?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. “I see a Batman and I want to paint it white…”

Wait, that’s not how the song goes?

So, should I assume that this figure is tied to some deluxe BD release of Batman ’89? Because that kind of shenanigans would get around various licensing restrictions.

  6. Thank you Noisy. You were the first source that gave me this fantastic newsbit and I almost fell out of my chair reading your article. Kinda wish I knew last night. Damn.

Thanks for the heads up though. Was thinking of purchasing the NES version today for a repaint and now I don’t have to!

    1. Thanks, Templar Punk. Got mine ordered. As a bonus, I actually do need to own a copy of ‘Batman.’ All I have is ‘Batman Returns’ on DVD and ‘Batman’ on VHS without a working VCR.

  7. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

I knew I made the right choice to err on the side of responsibility amd wait to pick up a 2nd NES one.
