\"\"<\/a> When my Machine Robos arrived, I immediately went to Battle Robo and dug into taking some pictures, playing around with him, and just having a good time. I loved him. He\u2019s a great toy. And then I opened Eagle Robo\u2026 he\u2019s fun too. I shouldn\u2019t give Eagle Robo too hard a time. I do actually like him quite a bit, but he\u2019s not as good. I\u2019m a little concerned that if folks dip their toes in the water on this line, they might pick the venerable Gobots commander and then not be as satisfied as they might\u2019ve been had they gone with Battle Robo. <\/p>\n

First, there\u2019s a lot to like. The robot mode looks sharp out of the box. I never had Leader-1 as a kid. I wanted to have him and I got close once we my family ran across the blue repaint in a Skaggs Grocery store years later. My parents ended up not grabbing it for me, but I at least saw it! I was happy about that. I bought a used one year later. He\u2019s a bit of a beater, but I like to think he\u2019s that same one I saw years ago. On a side note, I miss that Skaggs Grocery store. It\u2019s a Ford dealership now. Woo hoo. <\/p>\n

Visually, I really like the overall robot. I like that so much of the jet mode is visible in robot mode. I love Battle Robo, but since he\u2019s a futuristic tank his robot mode looks mostly like a robot. Eagle Robo has a more transforming robot feel with the alt mode shining through. The high shoulders bring a good balance to the clunky legs and I like the head sculpt. The head sculpts are the big thing to get used to since they\u2019re the most notable anime aspect of the figures, and different from the toys we remember. The only visual negative is the neck \u2013 it\u2019s just this lone black rod. Like Leader-1\u2019s head is just continually on a pike. It just is weird. There\u2019s nothing sophisticated about it and it just jars an otherwise near perfect visual. <\/p>\n

Like Tank, the upgraded articulation is one of the best things about the figure. The legs are a little blocked by all the kibble. The wings wrap around the legs but the vertical stabilizers are immobile and get in the way of the ankle on deeps poses. He can still do plenty \u2013 the transformation process gives him a second hinge in the leg that helps the ankles out, but he\u2019s not quite as possible as Tank. The arms are just as good as Tank and the neck articulation even better. The rod is ugly, but it helps the figure be expressive (& helps you find poses where you can hide the rod entirely behind the chin.<\/p>\n

The transformation process is where Eagle Robo lets me down a bit. In fact, I have to use the dreaded F-word to describe him: fiddly. The legs are great, they\u2019re the most Gobot part of the figure with the wings just wrapping around and keeping it simple. The nose cone also pops over the head. Simple enough. But the arms\u2026 I\u2019m not even sure I understand where everything tabs in. I just kind of press it altogether and hope it gets there. I still can\u2019t get all the pegs on the underside aligned, but he holds together fine. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

The upside to all the tabbing is a pretty slick alt mode. He feels a little chibi for an F-15 Eagle, but he looks good. This is the one place where he feels small though. At 6\u201d, he\u2019s tall in his bot mode and I like it. As an F-15 he just seems a little small. He looks good with Tank, so that\u2019s all that really matters. And I\u2019ll be the first to admit that I\u2019m spoiled by all these great MP Seekers that I don\u2019t review. <\/p>\n

Eagle Robo included some accessories, which I guess are a little bit partsforming, but I just prefer to be happy that his alt mode can store all this stuff. His alt mode missile batteries snap together and then two small side pieces come off the alt mode to create and shell & handle for Eagle Robo\u2019s rifle. It\u2019s a really fun piece, he holds it well, and it just gives him a more threatening edge that this guy needs. <\/p>\n

Also included is the modular stand, the same as what came with Tank except for a different connecter made to fit Eagle Robo specifically. I like these stands more when I have more pieces. I\u2019m still wrapping my head around them, but I think we\u2019ll be able to put together some really nice display pieces the more and more of these Machine Robo figures we get. <\/p>\n

Overall, I still enjoy Eagle Robo and I\u2019m chomping at the bit to order Drill Rod (but I\u2019m waiting for Bike Robo to come in\u2026 I\u2019m waiting damn it!). He looks good in both modes (except that ugly neck), so it\u2019s really just the transition that gets me. He\u2019s not fun to transform and that can be killer. It\u2019s going to depend on the others for me and this line though. A few tough engineering nuts like Eagle Robo are bound to happen, but as long as the majority of the other figures are slick & fun to transform like Tank, we\u2019ll be good to go for a while on this line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \t
