The figures that never made it are always the ones we\u2019re sore about in the end. We remember the bad figures, but we tend to keep them and maybe mock them. But the ones that got skipped? Those hurt. <\/p>\n

Roxy Rocket is one of those figures. She didn\u2019t play a big part in the show. She only appeared as a major villain once in TNBA and in a brief appearance in STAS and the toy line, rightfully or wrongfully, skipped her over. Now, twenty-some years later, one thing that I\u2019ve really appreciated about DC Collectibles approach to their Animated line is that they\u2019re spotlighting those skipped over figures. Sure, we\u2019re getting the Batmen & Robins; the core guys, but we\u2019re also seeing this toy line quickly cover some of the unchecked boxes the old toys left behind. It makes me happy because we\u2019re finally getting figures of some of these characters. It also lets me know that the folks at DC Collectibles are fans just like me and that\u2019s awesome. <\/p>\n

Roxy Rocket is no exception. I would\u2019ve never guessed we\u2019d see here in the first year, but here she is. DC Collectibles even went the extra mile and ensured she came with the one accessory she needed most of all: her rocket. <\/p>\n

This set isn\u2019t due out in shops until later in the month, but Entertainment Earth got her last week so I hopped on the In Stock order just to see and it worked out! She\u2019s retailing for $35 which I thought was a great price for the set considering I\u2019m paying $25 regular per figure at my LCS. <\/p>\n

Roxy\u2019s sculpt is fantastic, really capturing that TNBA female aesthetic. The head sculpt is fantastic with the clear visor glued on for effect. Her costume details are all captured well from the bomber jacket down to the loose ankle boots. My favorite detail is probably one of the most subtle. Her design include rolled up gloves and that\u2019s an area most toy sculpts would\u2019ve overlook. Not here. The swappable hand still have that ball-jointed wrist, but the sculpt for the glove excess is on the arm. It\u2019s just a simple touch but I love it. <\/p>\n

The paintwork on Roxy is simple, but also well done. The only real surprise for me is the red hair because the solicit featured much darker hair. It\u2019s cool and I don\u2019t care to drudge up the \u201chighlight color\u201d nonsense, but the red hair looks great in the color scheme with the flight gear. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Articulation would be a slam dunk too, but my figure ended up with a pretty damning QC problem. The figure has ball-joints at the neck (limited) shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips (h-jointed), and inverted ankles; swivels at the waist and boots, and single-hinge knees. Everything works pretty great, but those knees are so loose (& the ankles not far behind) that standing is a problem. I was able to balance her a few times during the shoot, but it was a fight every time and it nearly soured me on the whole experience. My figure has to be hooked up to her stand or be sitting on her rocket, or she\u2019s as good as down. <\/p>\n

Roxy included six alternate hands: two fists, two hands for the rocket, one for her accessories, and a relaxed hand. All swap in easily and feel alright despite being quite small and each one holds its intended accessory pretty well. Also included are some episode specific accessories: a wrench, an electric gun, a flare, gun and special \u201cbat-flare\u201d that fits in the flare gun just like in the episode.<\/p>\n

And, then, of course, is the rocket! It\u2019s a total shelf-space killer, but I love it. It\u2019s a really clean sculpt and really captures the look from the show. Roxy fits on pretty well \u2013 I can never quite get her butt in the seat while she\u2019s holding the bars, but the setup can still look great in a ton of poses even in combination with the other accessories. The whole deal just takes off on display and I also enjoy that the weak knees can\u2019t detract from the figure either. The Rocket does take two LR44 batteries that are used to light-up the afterburner. I didn’t have any batteries handy, but turning the afterburner will turn the light off & on once you get the batteries in there. It’s a cool effect!<\/p>\n

A stand is included for the rocket. It\u2019s a simple, sleek design, but it\u2019s well done. I wish the regular stands were as efficient on design & space as it was. I do love the turnaround bases, but the part that clips around their waist just isn\u2019t display friendly. At least, in this case though, it does take up less space than a rocket! <\/p>\n

Overall, the knees being too lose to stand for long periods of time is pretty much killer. The figure has a perfectly executed sculpt with great paint and great planned articulation, but a figure has to stand and the knees her just don\u2019t. I\u2019m really hopeful that this has just affected my Roxy and that other folks get figures that aren\u2019t gravity-challenged. The upside is that she does include her rocket and some other accessories for a great price and she really should be displayed on it. I just have to find some room for that rocket to squeeze into. <\/p>\n
