It\u2019s way late, but I want to get a review up for tomorrow (today, really). I took a quick scan of my giant pile of unreviewed figures and had to pick one I thought I could do quickly. My MOTU pile is probably the worst of the lot, so I started there. My method, if you call it that I guess, is to figure out the pics first and the many of the pics below popped into my head instantly when I read \u201cBuzz Saw\u201d Hordak scrolled across that brown mailer. So I picked him. <\/p>\n

Turns out, he\u2019s not really the figure you want to talk about in the middle of the night after working all weekend. You want to be happy! And excited! And blown away! And\u2026 not thinking that this guy was better off in the box. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the figure\u2019s fault per se. We slavishly must complete the vintage line and BS Hordak, no matter what, is part of the vintage line. We had to get him and so the lack of imagination that led to his basically unchanged deco thirty years ago has returned. Well, except that this figure doesn\u2019t quite match this one in a few tiny ways. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

From a distance, this figure is basically Hordak redux. The one saving grace to this deco is that the regular Hordak figure, from way back in 2009, had a little bit of a MO2K flare. I\u2019m sure there was some MOTU Classics Collector ready for a Hordak without silver trim, with the regular loincloth, with brighter greys, etc. I know! It\u2019s almost starting to sound different! Side-by-side, there are differences, but it\u2019s subtle except for one big thing. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

And that big thing? It should totally be a good thing! It should be amazing! It should make us bowled over excited! See, BS Hordak\u2019s action feature was a buzz saw bursting out of his chest. I don\u2019t know what happened to his lungs, but suffice to say, you don\u2019t have a lot of time to ask the question before you probably die from the buzz saw hitting your lungs. The lack of action feature is MOTUC is tricky here \u2013 if this Hordak figure were just a (barely) repaint with a new accessory, it would suck! That would\u2019ve been a terrible idea. So thankfully, this figure got an all new chest. We lost the ab crunch, but the front plate opens up and the buzz saw can nestle inside. It doesn\u2019t burst out, but hey it\u2019s less dangerous this way. So why on earth would anyone think that getting this hollow chest is a bad thing? Well, some folks are crazy and want the last of action features to be consistent. We don\u2019t worry about them. The other reason? The totally not fair and should have nothing to do with BS Hordak reason? <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

Because MOTU Classics Rio Blast sucks. For my money, he\u2019s the biggest disappointment in the entire line. That\u2019s including a sure-to-break Goddess figure, horrendously ugly Point Dread Teela, reversed arms whoever, etc. Rio Blast is the worst. And you could maybe deal with it because the line wasn\u2019t going to get any newly tooled cavity chests\u2026 yeah. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not this figure\u2019s fault, but it\u2019s like a certain song your ex absolutely loved. The song isn\u2019t any different than it was before after the break-up, but you can\u2019t see it the same way. Hordak is fine, but Rio Blast just kinda makes you not like him.<\/p>\n

Hordak includes the Hordak Crossbow in white and that aforementioned lethal dumbbell. The crossbow is doomed for the extras bin with the other white crossbow, but hey \u2013 that buzz saw stores neatly in the chest, so that\u2019s probably where it will reside. <\/p>\n

Overall, this figure isn\u2019t anything terrible. He\u2019s just got a lot of little things he doesn\u2019t do well. He\u2019s not quite vintage accurate to the original BS Hordak and his deco isn\u2019t really different enough from the regular Hordak to be notable. He\u2019s got the chest cavity, but no way to launch the little buzz saw. We applaud the folks at Mattel giving him a new chest \u2013 it\u2019s fantastic, but it just serves as a reminder that they utterly, completely botched Rio Blast. It\u2019s hard to let that go and enjoy this guy. <\/p>\n
