Do my eyes deceive me? Is there actually a\u2026 *gasp* movie-based figure in this wave with a movie-based BAF?! <\/p>\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong \u2013 I love the mix. I\u2019m down for both MCU figures and straight up comic figures. The BAF kinda throws things off though. Three movie figures to build comic Thanos. Five comic figures to build movie Ultron. And now six figures to build movie Hulkbuster? It\u2019s not terrible, and the wave assortments are surely based more on cost than logic, but I\u2019d like to see the movie BAFs get at least a few more movie figures in the mix. Of course, maybe I just want a few more movie figures. Their need for unique sculpts has left a lot of holes in my MCU collection so far. A Falcon-sized hole. A Yellowjacket-sized hole. A Ronan-sized hole. I could go on, but I\u2019d rather talk about War Machine. <\/p>\n

War Machine is the sole single-carded Age of Ultron representative you get when building ol\u2019 Veronica. And I\u2019m not even going to hold the fact it\u2019s pretty much a repaint against it. Besides, I can\u2019t even point you to my review of the original figure, the Iron Patriot, because apparently I kinda skipped reviewing that whole wave. Oops. <\/p>\n

Rhodey is easily one of my favorite parts of the MCU (he\u2019s also a personal favorite in the comics too). I liked Terrence Howard in Iron Man and Don Cheadle has been one of the best parts of the subsequent Iron Man movies. And while I like the Iron Patriot design, I was happy to see him revert back to War Machine proper for AoU. I still have a soft spot for the heavier armor from IM2, but this design is still alright by me. <\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t\u2019 compared the figure frame-by-frame to how the suit is redesigned in AoU, but it seems a fair approximation. It is mostly the Iron Patriot body redecoed and that one seemed pretty spot on. There might be some creative changes that aren\u2019t captured here, but the body gets the job done. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

So what\u2019s the added value to keep this figure from being a desaturated rehash? I\u2019d like to say there\u2019s more \u2013 some alternate hands (WM features two fists while IP featured an open hand), but there\u2019s just one extra bit, a second open-masked head. It is admittedly pretty cool though as extra bits go. The Cheadle likeness under the mask is well done. I felt the Mark XLIII open-faced RDJ head was sculpted well and then painted poorly, but Rhodey doesn\u2019t have that issue. The paint is simple, but effective, even if Rhodey looks a little non-plussed. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

The paintwork is sharp throughout the figure. The base is a great glitter-infused gunmetal color that really makes the figure shine. The relief areas are painted well with a bright silver and the tampos are pretty clean throughout. Articulation is standard with ball-joints at the neck, shoulders, mid-torso, wrists, hips, & ankles; double-hinged knees & elbows; and swivels at the biceps and thighs. Everything works well for the most part. The shoulders are blocked by the shoulder pads a bit and the ankles are limited by being higher up the shin under the armor. <\/p>\n

The second accessory here is the back mounted gun. It\u2019s kinda cheapie, but I probably just miss the Gatling gun. It can peg on either side of Rhodey\u2019s back and then features two swivels and a hinge for posing. The great alternate head and the shoulder gun are both great pieces to get, though I will bring up the lack of alternate hands one more time. Hands are just so expressive that I kinda wish ML had a library of them at this point instead of locking these figures down. <\/p>\n

Overall, War Machine feels like a highlight of the set just because he\u2019s the one movie figure, and an armor, that we get on the way to building the massive Hulkbuster. There are some other good figures too, so it\u2019s not just a repaint headlining the wave. The sculpt on the armor is solid with good articulation and I love the metallic look. The big seller is the alternate head though. I love getting the open mask and seeing Rhodey\u2019s face in there. It make the figure much more unique. Hopefully, we get this option more often going forward. <\/p>\n
