\"\"<\/a> “Seriously, what is it with New York? Would it kill you to invade Denver once? But no. You’ve always got to destroy Central Park or eat the Statue of Liberty… Bad guys are such tourists.”<\/em><\/strong> – Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man Special. <\/p>\n

When the Hobgoblin wave was announced, I figured there were two for-sure purchases, one figure that I wanted without really understanding why, and that I could skip the other half of the wave and the BAF. This Spider-Man was in the skip half. What happened was, I came across the wave on clearance at Walmart. They meant to be clearancing out the Ultimate Goblin wave (scored a cheap black costume Spider-Girl), but this WM wasn\u2019t discriminating. I, being particularly weak, ended up building the Hobgoblin (& then selling him \u2018cause I really didn\u2019t want him). The upside though was that I got to check out three figures I would\u2019ve passed on. And I\u2019m probably gonna keep \u2018em all.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

The biggest surprise for me? This Spider-Man. I knew he was probably a good figure, but do you know how many times I\u2019ve bought a Marvel Legends Spidey thinking, \u201cthis will be the one\u201d. I can\u2019t even tell you how many times. They always improve the guy. But I really liked the Amazing Spider-Man 2 figure \u2013 yes, it\u2019s movie-based, but it was pretty classic. I was really just missing the big fat bug on the back of the suit. <\/p>\n

I just didn\u2019t know that until I opened this figure. I\u2019m pretty sure this Spider-Man is all-new and appears to have displaced the 2013 figure that was used for a variety of Spidey costumes. I had a few issues with that buck at the time, but now I have a ton with it! Because this figure, while still not the perfect Spider-Man is now the newest recipient of the \u201cClosest They\u2019ve Come\u201d award. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

The new body is great. I love the proportions and the overall sculpt \u2013 this is Spidey, he\u2019s a not too muscle-y guy in a skin tight suit, this shouldn\u2019t be hard, and they\u2019ve nailed it. No clunky knees, no oversized head, just an honest to goodness straight up Spidey sculpt. I\u2019m also a huge fan of the costume lines not being etched in \u2013 normally, I think that\u2019s cool. But this Spidey body is so perfect that I now need it a million times over. We\u2019ve already got 2099 in this wave and Scarlet Spider on the way in the next, but I need more. I\u2019m not kidding: Symbiote (of course, and no damn blue highlights please), Captain Universe, Spider Armor (with some new bits), Ben Reilly\u2019s costume, Negative Zone\u2026 heck, even the Iron Spider & the White Fantastic Four costume. Or even that weird Alex Ross costume? I can\u2019t stand that guy, but I\u2019m game for the figure! Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

But, wait, wait\u2026 didn\u2019t I say this Spidey wasn\u2019t perfect? Well, yeah. The one thing that bugs me is in the articulation. There is a ton of greatness here \u2013 ball-joints at the neck, shoulders, wrists, hips, and inverted ankles; swivels at the biceps, waist, & thighs; double-hinges at the elbows & knees, the ab-crunch and the Toy Biz reminiscent hinged shoulders embedded in the chest. I\u2019m not so hot on those, but they work great. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/center><\/p>\n

So what don\u2019t I like? Well, I still want a little more \u2013 boot swivels would help, and he could almost use a mid-foot joint even though I kinda hate those. But that\u2019s not it \u2013 it\u2019s the hips. They have good to okay range, but it\u2019s not enough. The figure can maybe get his legs out sixty degrees? That may be okay for some figures \u2013 it didn\u2019t seem to bother me on Daredevil really, but Spidey basically needs to be able to do the splits. It\u2019s not a dealbreaker \u2013 I\u2019d love to get this as a rainbow Spidey buck, but that\u2019s the one place I\u2019d hope the figure could improve. <\/p>\n

The paint work is pretty sharp all over, even the lines. It\u2019s remarkably well done. The only issue I have is that on nearly every figure I\u2019ve seen, they haven\u2019t been able to get the abs fully covered in red. <\/p>\n

The other neat thing for this Spidey is the accessories. Spidey needs to thwipp. Spidey also needs to punch. And Spider would look good in some cool open hand crawling poses too, right? Well, this Spidey can finally do all that with three sets of interchangeable hands. After all those molded thwipp hands, I\u2019m happy to just pop two fists on him as much as possible, but you can\u2019t beat having the options. <\/p>\n

He also had two more \u201cfun\u201d pieces. The partially unmasked head and a slice of pizza. I love that he has a slice of pizza more than I can say. And while the unmasked head is probably so he can eat said pizza, it\u2019s still his kissy face head. We all know it. <\/p>\n

Overall, I\u2019m glad that the clearance popped up and got me to pick up this Spidey. I would\u2019ve, should\u2019ve, paid full price for him. Hasbro could use to look at those hips and increase their range, but they have a great Spidey buck on their hands. I still want variety in the waves, but they can toss out more Spidey costumes now. I seriously want a Black\/Symbiote Suit on this buck right this second (Again, no blue highlights). I might even buy it if they want to homage the 90s, and toss him in a fisherman\u2019s hat and rubber waders. <\/p>\n
