Power Rangers Black & Blue Ranger Review"},"content":{"rendered":"

<\/a> Sometimes in this crazy toy blogging business, there are toys you love, but don\u2019t love having to review. The S.H. Figuarts Power Rangers are a perfect example. They\u2019re stunning on the shelf, sturdy, well-articulated\u2026 I could go on. I don\u2019t buy into the hype that import toys are superior to domestic toys (or the attitude that tends to go with that opinion), but it\u2019s a fantastic set. I love getting them. <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t like the idea of reviewing them. <\/p>\n

The main reason is because there\u2019s a whole lot of the same going on. The MMPR suit designs are classic, etched into my brain in a way that ephemerally stamps this as cool, cooler than any other Power Rangers costume before or since (though there are a lot tied for second). And, like many other Power Ranger versions, the suits are basically identical from one figure to the next. The Black & Blue Rangers reviewed here are basically the Red Ranger with new heads. <\/p>\n

They\u2019re fantastic. But what can I say that I haven\u2019t already? I mean, there are a few differences, of course, and I\u2019ll cover those, but I just couldn\u2019t figure out enough to say to review these two great releases separately. So, my poor Black Ranger has been sitting in his box for weeks, waiting for the Blue Ranger from my BBTS POL to make his appearance. He arrived yesterday. <\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t waste any time opening the pair though. It was great to get them both out of box and pull the Red, Pink, Green, & White up alongside them (the Yellow Ranger is here too, but she\u2019ll have to wait for her review to join the group!). The base figure is fantastic \u2013 in any color. I could see buying it two more times \u2013 importing the male Yellow Ranger and I\u2019m still kinda hoping for an unarmored Green Ranger. <\/p>\n

The two new heads are well done, featuring the Mammoth & Triceratops. The glossy helmets have been a highlight of the line. They stand out well from the more satin-finished plastic and give an extra sense of realism. What is different on these releases is the accessories. You\u2019ll see them pictured in their tray in the gallery, but I will point out there are a few accessories I\u2019m not covering in this review. The last three Rangers (Blue, Black, & Yellow) included slightly modified accessories that could combine to form the Power Blaster. Billy included two yellow Power Daggers and the pink Power Bow while Zack feature two blue Power Lances and the red Power Sword. I\u2019ll save those until the Yellow Power Ranger review as she is the only one to include the instructions on the Power Blaster assembly. Suffice to say, three extra accessories per figure really helped with the sticker price of $39.99. <\/p>\n

Both also featured a nice selection of accessories for their own specific use as well. Both included the standard Blade Blaster & Thunder Slinger. Billy came packaged with this Power Lance in two forms, one unified staff and the two separate blades while Zach came with his Power Axe. The accessories are nicely done and well painted. They\u2019re not as brittle as past Figuarts accessories, but still handle them carefully. I have since broken the Thunder Slinger that came with my Red Ranger. Each figure also included four sets of hands: fists, and three sets of grips unique to their weapons. <\/p>\n

Overall, this is a short review, but that shouldn\u2019t take away from the figures. The MMPR line has been magnificent. The figures look fantastic and are fun to play around with. The NA release featuring MMPR packaging made it that much cooler to snag all these. The only downside is that, at $40 a pop, it costs $200 just to get the five rangers, let alone Green & White. I know that\u2019s steep and some could point out that Bandai USA could release a nice set of updated figures with great articulation for cheaper, but the key word is could. They haven’t done it yet (these figures are Bandai Japan & Bluefin celebrating MMPR\u2019s 20th Anniversary) and as much as I’d like to see them try, I don’t know that they will. So I\u2019m good on Power Rangers, at least these versions, for the foreseeable future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \t
