This review was originally published on May 23rd, 2014.<\/strong>
Even though I\u2019m all for adding as many characters as possible to the Classics line, that doesn\u2019t mean I care about every character.\u00a0 Scorpia kind of fell into this category for me.\u00a0 The Horde would never be complete without a figure of her, but I still haven\u2019t seen any of her Filmation appearances and had no connection with her character.\u00a0 But sometimes none of that matters, because a good figure is a good figure even if you know nothing about them.<\/p>\n

\"scrp1\"<\/p>\n

For some reason Scorpia\u2019s sculpt really took me by surprise.\u00a0 I\u2019d seen all the shots that showed her off at conventions, but the figure never really popped for me until I had her in hand.\u00a0 While she uses a few basic parts from the female \u201cbuck\u201d, a lot of the figure is still all new sculpting.\u00a0 The parts that jump out right away are her forearms and dainty claw hands with their bumpy texture.\u00a0 But what surprised me is that the boots are also all new.\u00a0 Both the top of the ankle and calf were given a spiked point.<\/p>\n

Her leotard is also all new.\u00a0 The front has that is a fairly typical Classics female wardrobe piece, complete with the Horde bat symbol.\u00a0 The back is a completely different creature with the fabric areas meeting up with a segmented and textured carapace that runs from the shoulder and down the middle.\u00a0 Her scorpion tail then extends from the lower back, curving in on itself in a \u201cU\u201d form.\u00a0 The combination of fabric and arachnid armor is really interesting and makes me wonder where the fabric ends and her body begins.<\/p>\n

Scorpia\u2019s head is also a lot more attractive than I expected.\u00a0 Sure she has that severe dominatrix look about her, but the 4H were able to pull off that subtle sculpt where the faces emotions change slightly depending on the angle.\u00a0 I always love that.\u00a0 Of course there\u2019s still that underlying harshness to her face due to the lack of hair and crazy amounts of eye shadow.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Aside from the eye shadow, paint is pretty basic.\u00a0 There are some nice little details like the metallic and matte combination on her helmet, or the glossy lines that decorate her body suit.\u00a0 I also really like that the red on her clothing is deep and vibrant, while her bug parts have a lighter pinkish hue.\u00a0 The two colors play a nice contrast between the fabric and armor.<\/p>\n

Articulation is pretty standard, but there are a couple of differences.\u00a0 The head is on a ball joint.\u00a0 Shoulders and hips are swivel hinges.\u00a0 Elbows, knees and ankles are hinged, while the wrists, thighs and waist are swivels.\u00a0 Scorpia\u2019s tail connects to her dress with a swivel joint.\u00a0 This was to be expected, but I still wish there was more articulation to it.\u00a0 Aside from that, her other big difference is the ankles.\u00a0 For some reason Matty dropped the rocker joints.\u00a0 I\u2019m assuming it was for cost cutting, but it\u2019s still annoying.<\/p>\n

Scorpia comes with one accessory, her standard Horde-issues crossbow.\u00a0 Like all the other members, Scorpia\u2019s has its own unique design of a scorpion-like critter.\u00a0 Interestingly, her crossbow clips onto her wrist instead of having a handle to grasp.<\/p>\n

All around I\u2019m really happy with Scorpia.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t really know or care about the character, but the excellent design by the 4H actually made her my favorite female Horde member.\u00a0 Hopefully more nice surprises like this lay ahead for the upcoming PoP sub.<\/p>\n
