It\u2019s my turn to take a look at some of the Four Horsemen\u2019s new Power Lords.\u00a0 Noisy\u2019s already reviewed a couple of these soldiers, but it\u2019s my first time even getting any.\u00a0 So I\u2019ll probably be covering a lot of the same territory he did, but in different colors!\u00a0 After all, that\u2019s half the fun with these guys.<\/p>\n

Power Lords is one of those toy lines I really don\u2019t remember from when I was a kid.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure if I ever ran across them at the store or maybe I just didn\u2019t like their designs enough.\u00a0 Of course looking back on it now, that seems a bit crazy.\u00a0 Going through the archive of toy pictures I see plenty of strange and even crazy designs that really push that line to the forefront of weird.\u00a0 We haven\u2019t quite hit that crazy stride with the new line yet.\u00a0 The new Power Corps soldiers are probably some of the most vanilla designs out there.\u00a0 Some of my favorite GI Joes as a kid were generic troops in cool uniforms, and that same idea is really appealing to me with the Power Soldiers.<\/p>\n

The Power Soldiers all share the same body, a \u201cfuturistic\u201d sci-fi ribbed bodysuit.\u00a0 The sculpted details include an armored collar and knee pads, and some cool circuitry running down his arms, legs and chest.\u00a0 He\u2019s also apparently wearing a sort of cargo pants, which everyone knows is the official pants of the future.<\/p>\n

The big difference between the two soldiers is the different head sculpts.\u00a0 The regular soldier has the full dome covering the majority of his head with the sides and chin covered in armor.\u00a0 It\u2019s a decent looking sculpt, but the smooth dome makes him look bald to me.\u00a0 I know, I\u2019m strange.\u00a0 The other head sculpt is for the Elite Soldier and has a more traditional space helmet look (or maybe even a futuristic gas mask).\u00a0 It\u2019s definitely much more intimidating than the other soldier.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

The figures are pretty basic when it comes to paint.\u00a0 The bodies are molded in their intended color.\u00a0 The Ophidian Squad Elite is red, while the regular soldier is a dark blue.\u00a0 The Slate Zone Elite is light gray, while the regular version is a dark bluish gray.\u00a0 Aside from the base color, the only paint on each figure is the visor area of each helmet, the chest triangle, and the belt.\u00a0 But being Glyos compatible, you can pretty much mix and match your perfect colored soldier.<\/p>\n

Since this is a Glyos compatible line, really the whole figure can be considered an accessory.\u00a0 But officially, each soldier comes with two weapons.\u00a0 First is a rifle with a nice amount of sculpted detail and three hand grips.\u00a0 Next is a staff with a little techno bauble on top.\u00a0 Not sure if this was in the original toy line, but it definitely looks like some sort of futuristic prod.<\/p>\n

Each figure has a good range of articulation, but it\u2019s not quite perfect.\u00a0 The heads are on ball joints.\u00a0 The shoulders, elbows, knees, and ankles are all swivel hinges.\u00a0 The wrist, waist and hips are swivels.\u00a0 The biggest hindrance here is the swivel hips.\u00a0 We really need a swivel\/hinge type motion here get the full range out of the figures.\u00a0 Without it, they\u2019re a bit limited from the waist down.\u00a0 Hopefully this won\u2019t be an issue with that Legends line they\u2019re planning.\u00a0 My skeleton knights require the ability to do deep lunges!<\/p>\n

All around these are pretty cool little figures that fit in nicely with a lot of other 1\/18th<\/sup> lines.\u00a0 The biggest detractor is that they don\u2019t have as many paint apps, but the sculpted detail is definitely there.\u00a0 I\u2019m definitely looking forward to the more crazy designs in this line, and maybe even a few more soldier variants to fill the ranks.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately the Slate Zone figures have already sold out, but you can still pick up the Ophidian Squad Soldier and Elite at the Store Horsemen<\/a>.<\/p>\n
