Winter Soldier Review"},"content":{"rendered":"

<\/a> To start off, this review will contain spoilers for Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. I won\u2019t reveal any salient plot details of the film itself, but if you somehow don\u2019t know who the Winter Solder is already, and don\u2019t want to know, then you might need to wait on this review until later. We\u2019ll wait.
\nAlso on that note, if I refer to actor Sebastian Shaw (a.k.a. Anakin Skywalker), just assume I\u2019m sleepy and that I\u2019m not meaning to talk about Star Wars. I\u2019m up against the deadline on this review and I\u2019m feeling the siren call of sleep. <\/p>\n

The Winter Soldier was the last figure I needed to complete my Mandroid. I had been lucky enough to run across him before, a few weeks ago, when I found Black Widow, but I didn\u2019t want to drop $40 for both. Wisely, I took Widow and left the Soldier. Then, I didn\u2019t see him again for a month. My wife & I were down in Arkansas, where Wv2 leftovers are at Walmart (no Walmart here has seen a touch of Wv2), and we nearly struck clean out, until my wife happened to spot this very Winter Soldier strewn about at the far end of the aisle. She\u2019s a keeper that one. <\/p>\n

The funny thing is, I wasn\u2019t originally going to buy this figure, but two things happened. One, the Mandroid kinda won me over and two, the new movie is amazing. I loved it. I bought the rest of these. I pre-ordered Hot Toys from it. I\u2019m ready to go watch it again. And own the DVD. <\/p>\n

Now, the Winter Soldier wasn\u2019t a big part of why I enjoyed the movie. Honestly, the Soldier is more plot device than character at this point (i.e., I didn\u2019t pre-order his HT), but I did need to get this size. Cause, hey, it\u2019s just $20. And dat leg. <\/p>\n

The only complaint I have on the sculpt is the height. He\u2019s taller than Steve and he shouldn\u2019t be. Other than that though, I love it. The brown jacketed version doesn\u2019t seem to be in the movie for very long, but it looks sharp on the figure and keeps him from being entirely clad in black. The detail work is top notch from head to toe, including the complicated design on the leather jacket. <\/p>\n

On the head sculpts, I\u2019m leaning more towards the masked head. The technical details are again spot on here and it looks fantastic, and not to mention a bit more menacing. The unmasked head isn\u2019t a poor quality likeness, but it\u2019s not as spot on as Black Widow. If you tell me it\u2019s Sebastian Stan, I\u2019ll believe and I can see it, but I might not be able to know it\u2019s him from just looking at the toy head. I sorta blame that on the jawline or the fact we tend to see this guy with stubble, but it also might just be the horrendous black eye paint. Continue to Page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

The articulation is fairly nice. The hips are a bit limited, but everything else works pretty well including the ball-joints at the neck, shoulders, wrists, hips, and inverted ankles. An ab crunch. Swivel cuts at the biceps, waist, and thighs. Double-hinges on the elbows and knees. He can get into pretty much any pose you need. <\/p>\n

The paint work is pretty sharp for what it is. The details on the belts, straps, and buckles are great throughout the figure and a nice wash on the leather jacket gives the figure a particularly finished feel. I do wish they had cleaned up the eyes a little more on the unmasked head and I would like to see the soldier\u2019s arm be a bit brighter. It\u2019s shiny in the movie, but relatively dull on the figure. For the most part though, the parts are molded in what\u2019s needed and the handful of details is sharp. He\u2019s a welcome addition. <\/p>\n

The one area where I feel let down is on the accessories. First, there\u2019s the cardinal sin \u2013 molded accessories. I hate those and there\u2019s a knife sheathed on the back of his belt. And we do get a Mandroid leg, so that\u2019s cool. But I hate the rifle. I shouldn\u2019t say that \u2013 I don\u2019t hate the big red gun itself. I liked it in green and it\u2019s neat to have a multiple. But it\u2019s not for the Soldier, it\u2019s for Hydra. The Soldier used all high-end realistic gear in the film and this Candyland gun just doesn\u2019t quite cut it for me. Did I mention he also can\u2019t hold it well? <\/p>\n

Overall, giant red gun and funky height a sign, Winter Soldier is a pretty nice figure to round the movie guys for the tie-in line. At this point, my disappointment is pretty much confined to Falcon not getting a figure this go round, though I will have to find him a small arsenal of weaponry. He used to many different, cool guns (just not anything red) to go without on the shelf. <\/p>\n
