Vault Review: Sea Hawk"},"content":{"rendered":"

Sea Hawk has always been pretty high on my Filmation want-list.\u00a0 He\u2019s been in six episodes of the Princess of Power series, and he has pretty strong feelings towards Adora (not She-Ra).\u00a0 But it\u2019s his personality that really wins you over.\u00a0 If you\u2019ve never seen any of his episodes, you\u2019re missing out.\u00a0 Just imagine a cocky Adam West as a pirate with an occasional bad attitude.<\/p>\n

I was really surprised by how much work went into this figure.\u00a0 Not really expecting more than a fancy repaint, I was surprised by just how many new pieces Hawk received.\u00a0 There are the blatant ones, like his head and vest, but then you also get a crotch piece with a new belt design.<\/p>\n

Looking at his arms you\u2019ll see he has new shoulders with a tattered cutoff shirt look, because long sleeves on the ocean are just uncomfortable.\u00a0 There are also new gloved forearms with little square armored bits.\u00a0 Then there\u2019s a brand new left hand that\u2019s been sculpted with his Impact Ring, which increases his hits \u201ca hundred fold\u201d.\u00a0 They also sculpted Hawk\u2019s Seven League Boots, which allows him to jump great distances.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t get a lot of human male figures from the PoP line, but when we do their head sculpts are pretty fantastic.\u00a0 While Sea Hawk\u2019s body is buff, he doesn\u2019t have that beefcake head like most of his Eternian counterparts.\u00a0 I love the face sculpt too.\u00a0 It has a great mix of determined and arrogant, even if he is wearing a headband.<\/p>\n

Sea Hawk\u2019s paint job is pretty standard.\u00a0 There\u2019s a lot of brown going on in his costume, but it actually looks pretty good juxtaposed with the black and blue bits.\u00a0 The figure has some nice airbrushing on the brown, for a little contrast.\u00a0 I was also nicely surprised that they painted the little bolts on his armor with a metallic blue.\u00a0 Continue to page 2…<\/a><\/p>\n

Articulation is standard for a MOTU Classics figure.\u00a0 He\u2019s got a ball jointed head.\u00a0 His shoulders and hips are swivel hinges.\u00a0 Abs, elbows, knees and ankles have hinges.\u00a0 And his waist, biceps, wrists, and boot cuts are swivels.\u00a0 His head does lose a bit of mobility because of the ascot, but it\u2019s not too bad.<\/p>\n

Hawk comes with two accessories: his red Photon Cutlass and energy shield.\u00a0 The shield comes in a semi-transparent yellow, while the sword is trans red with a metallic blue hilt.\u00a0 I\u2019d definitely like to see the sword redone if we get any future Weapon Paks.\u00a0 While in red form it can cut through anything, but it can also turn into a blue stun setting.\u00a0 It\u2019d also look pretty good molded yellow as a regular Laser Rapier.<\/p>\n

All around I\u2019m pretty happy with how Sea Hawk turned out.\u00a0 He gives us a much needed male member of the Great Rebellion that doesn\u2019t look entirely like a meat head.\u00a0 I\u2019d definitely like to see a few more similarly themed male PoP Classics before the end of the line (*cough*<\/i> General Sunder with removable armor and alt head *cough*<\/i>).<\/p>\n
